The current medical treatment for perianal abscess (which often results in a fistula) involves oral drug antibiotics and manual drainage of infection from the abscess. However, many doctors wish there was an alternative treatment. Since it is so hard to get antibiotics to the actual infection site.
Oral antibiotics are processed via the GI (digestive) system, so very dilute amounts end up reaching the rectal area.
The good news is… We DO have a natural remedy for perianal abscesses or fistulas that delivers a very powerful natural antibiotic directly to the abscess or fistula site.
We now have a large number of sufferers who have tested this protocol. And nearly all have had a marked improvement, with the majority seeing complete healing. So I have posted the protocol here and if you try it, please post your comments to let us know how it worked, whether you changed or adapted it, etc.
One of my readers took the basic Wild Oregano Syringing protocol below and improved upon it by using an infrared laser to cause the wild oregano to penetrate more deeply and also to speed healing. So be sure and read this article as well before beginning treatment.
Most recently, based upon our experiments with healing anal stenosis and strictures and also intestinal strictures. I also gave a few readers an even more potent formula than just wild oregano. However, since this formula contains DMSO, you should only use it under strict instructions.
After you have been educated about this powerful substance (which instantly transports through the skin almost any substance it comes in contact with). I will give you this new, experimental formula at the end of this post, with instructions for the eBook you need to get to know how to use and apply it.
NOTE: Great news! You no longer have to monitor your thyroid on these protocols (unless you have a known overactive thyroid – hyperthyroid), CLICK HERE and Dr. Tyler will explain why even high-dose, ongoing iodine supplementation is perfectly safe.
Natural Remedy for Perianal Abscess and Fistula
If you have a perianal abscess that is still enclosed, or walled-off, then the first step is to try applying wild oregano oil topically to the infected area. Start at a 7:1 dilution with olive oil (7 drops organic olive oil : 1 drop wild oregano oil), and then increase strength to get it as close to full strength as you can tolerate – only use the brands I recommend, to ensure potency.
Apply topically five times per day and also begin Jini’s Wild Oregano Oil Protocol (on page 152 of Listen To Your Gut) orally.
If this doesn’t work sufficiently to reduce infection after two weeks, then you may want to have your gastroenterologist drain the abscess. If he/she performs this procedure, your GI will want to follow it with oral drug antibiotics.
However, you do have the option of having the abscess drained and then NOT following it with drug antibiotics. You can use oral wild oregano or olive leaf instead – just follow the same protocol in my eBook for Natural Treatment for Gut Infection
If you decide to have it drained, then (if possible) during the procedure, have the GI syringe it with full strength wild oregano (as much as will go in) after drainage.
Then, (regardless of whether he’ll do that, or not) try to get him to leave a drainage tube in place. This will make it very easy for you to syringe it yourself with wild oregano. Thereby avoid having to take any prescription antibiotics.
Even if he won’t leave a drainage tube in place, you can still syringe it (syringes available at local pharmacy – often dental or oral irrigation syringes work best as they’re long and narrow) through the hole – it’s just more difficult and uncomfortable.
Wild Oregano Syringing Protocol for Perianal Abscess or Fistula:
- Syringe wild oregano oil into your fistula hole or drainage tube with as close to full strength wild oregano oil as you can tolerate. Start at a 7:1 dilution with olive oil (7 drops organic olive oil : 1 drop wild oregano oil). Then increase in strength to get it as close to full strength wild oregano as you can tolerate. Try to elevate your fistula opening so that the oregano oil stays in the abscess cavity and doesn’t drain back out immediately.
- You could also try plugging the drainage hole with a piece of wax or silicone earplug, or something, to block it closed for 20 minutes after syringing. Then remove and let it drain. Most people have been using a 10 ml syringe.
- But even 5 ml (depending on how much you can get in there) is likely sufficient. For detailed information on wild oregano and detailed instructions on how to prepare a dilution, see my eBook What You Need To Know About Wild Oregano Oil.
- Syringe every 2 hours for the first 24 hours (when you’re asleep at night, let it go 4 hours).
- Then every 4 hours for the next 24 hours.
- Then 4 times per day thereafter until infection is completely resolved / gone.
- Then 2 times per day for 10 days (yes, this is AFTER there is no infection left).
- Then allow the hole to close (if it hasn’t already) by removing the drainage tube. And continue applying topically for a month, 3x/day.
Throughout this whole regimen, continue with the oral wild oregano and probiotics, as per Jini’s Wild Oregano Oil Protocol – given in my eBook, Natural Treatments for Gut Infection.
NOTE:
It’s VERY important to distinguish between ESSENTIAL oil of oregano and the commercial brands for oral use – which are already mixed with olive oil (usually in a 3:1 or 4:1 olive oil:essential wild oregano oil ratio). IF you use Essential oil of wild oregano on your skin or mucous membranes it will literally burn the tissue. You may not feel it, but an examination will show actual burns.
When I talk about FULL-STRENGTH I am talking about the usage at full-strength of a commercial brand already prepped for oral use. (Like NAHS P73 or Joy Of The Mountains). I am NOT talking about ESSENTIAL oil of oregano.
And when I give dilution ratios for wild oregano oil, I am still talking about using the commercial prep as your base and then diluting further with olive oil.
* A big thank-you to my brother, Millan Patel MD, MSc, who helped me develop the syringing part of this protocol.
Speed Fistula Healing With An Infrared Laser
One of my readers has improved upon this protocol by using an infrared laser as well. To cause the wild oregano to penetrate more deeply and also to speed healing. So be sure and read this article as well before beginning treatment.
You’ll see from the Comments Section below (please read thoroughly before submitting a question) that if people cannot syringe directly into their drainage hole, they are syringing to wherever they can reach. If their fistula drains into their rectum, then they are syringing up their rectum instead.
More Potent Experimental Syringing Formula for Fistulas or Abscesses
As I mentioned above, we have recently started testing this turbo-charged, very powerful formula to heal fistulas or abscesses. But these are experimental and you need to be educated about DMSO in order to use it safely.
Formula A
15 ml (1 tbsp.) George’s Aloe Vera Juice
10 ml (2 tsp.) 99% DMSO
5 ml (1 tsp.) potassium iodide (SSKI)
10 ml (2 tsp.) colloidal silver (minimum 22 ppm)
10 ml (2 tsp.) wild oregano oil
This would give you a 20% DMSO formula. So far, people have reported good results with this formula. BUT, if it’s not strong enough, then increase the wild oregano and decrease the aloe vera like this:
Formula B
10 ml (2 tsp.) George’s Aloe Vera Juice
10 ml (2 tsp.) 99% DMSO
5 ml (1 tsp.) potassium iodide (SSKI)
10 ml (2 tsp.) colloidal silver (minimum 22 ppm)
15 ml (3 tsp.) wild oregano oil
IMPORTANT
You MUST read my eBook on Natural Treatments for Anal Stenosis and Stricture for a full description of each of these ingredients. How to mix, how to apply it, safety guidelines, etc. before beginning treatment. You can get the eBook and formula ingredients here.
Do NOT attempt these DMSO-based formulas without reading my eBook. Or doing extensive research on DMSO first! Also, do not use brands other than the ones I recommend. If you don’t want to buy online, just copy down the brand names and get your local health store to order them in for you.
One of my readers had a fistula from his intestine that was draining out his belly button. And after only a few days of using this formula topically (Formula A), along with my Oral Intestinal StrictureHeal formula (which has similar ingredients, but is swallowed by mouth).
Here’s the report of his progress (after colonoscopy):
“Other good news, Jon’s stomach and duodenum were completely clear. There was a nodule at the base of the stomach where the doc thinks the fistula track may have run. He could not find a hole anymore, nor could he see a hole in the transverse colon. His belly button is still oozing slightly but we are hopeful that the absence of visible holes on the inside means it is healing as it should from the inside out.”
Where Do You Start?
I know, I’ve given you a lot of new information in this blog post. So the place to start is by reading everything and educating yourself fully before you begin – this will give you the highest chance of success.
Firstly, this article is part 1 of a 3-part series, which together give you the FULL instructions on how to heal a fistula or perianal abscess. So make sure you read EACH post to get the full instructions:
1. Natural Remedy for Perianal Abscess and Fistula – this post above
2. How to Use Infrared Lasers to Speed Healing of Fistulas
3. Amy’s story: How She Used Jini’s Natural Remedy and Infrared Lasers to Heal Her Son’s Perianal Abscess
Next, you need to buy your supplies (ONLY the brands I recommend – do NOT substitute or you will not have the same results!). Also buy any of the additional eBooks that you need; based on whether you need an oral natural antibiotic, or you want to try the new experimental DMSO-based formulas – links to all are in the post above. And you also need to buy a 5 – 10 ml syringe, either regular or dental (oral irrigation syringe) and clean it with hot soapy water after each use.
If you want encouragement, or you have a difficult situation, then first read through all of the COMMENTS below this post. Your question is likely already answered there.
Note: If you ask me a question I have already answered, I will not reply. So be sure to read through the Comments before posting.

My name is Roland Lemus, and I have posted a note that was sent to an audience for a seminar about Ulcerative Colitis and J pouch relief. I received a J pouch, and never thought in a million years that I would do that, but I did, and I feel better for it. If anyone has questions, please ask, there doesn’t seem to be many U.C. resources to bounce questions and meds and other concerns, I see more Chrones resources which is nice, but U.C. sufferers need more folks sharing the good and the bad. Knowledge is power and that knowledge can lead to relief.
Best of luck – Roland

Audience:
I hope this email gets to you in time. My name is Roland Lemus. I had a severe condition of ulcerative colitis. I noticed bleeding on going to the bathroom in February 2000. Ironically, my first operation to correct my condition was in February 2008. Eight long years later. My condition was so bad last year that I was strategically finding the bathrooms to any store or restaurant to ensure I would make it in time. I had become steroid dependant and my appearance was puffy and round which are the common side affects to prednisone. I would be in a fetal position some weekends, feeling weak and sleeping. As my doctor, Dr. Tuvlin stated to me, I had really forgotten how to feel good. Even though I was working, getting into armour on some weekends and fighting full speed. My performance was lack luster to say the least. On my last colostomy, they found a benign growth, but it was too much for me to take a chance on, since my wife had passed away in 2002 from stage 4 breast cancer. I couldn’t put my now 14 year old daughter through another, “well, everything is going to be ok, and we will check in another year to see if things are ok” That was not an option, and while Remicade may have worked, I needed a result and more severe action to get further away from anything remotely called cancer. I now looked at this whole process as a mission, a mission that I would win, and I knew I had to be patient, but that is not my strong suite.
While I was in the hospital, I asked Dr. Tuvlin and other doctors of what my options were, and they gave me some good advice. One of those options was surgery, and I decided to go through with it. I was scared to some extent, but my past experiences with
The hospital encouraged me to choose this course. Since this was a two step operation, I will let DR. Tuvlin explain the details on this process. I am writing to you, a fellow sufferer that if your condition is to the point of being steroid dependant and you are fed up with being tired, I strongly recommend going through with this two pronged process. It has been a bumpy road whenever anyone gets this type of operation. Also, anything can happen, but I choose a better quality of life, and I believe I am on that road now.
I am a month and a half out of the last operation. I thought I would never use an Illiostomy bag for 2 months, but I did. I give all the credit of support and love during this process to my lady Beth. She learned how to change the bag every so often, since I was a big baby about it. She put up with a lot of howling from the hairs being pulled on my stomach. Not really a big deal unless it’s your hairs being pulled.
I ate almost everything, and Dr. Jordan may not like to hear that but I am doing much better and I actually FEEL good. I am working on getting my strength back so I can get back into armour, but I don’t have the same fear of a bad colonoscopy. Is this for everyone? You will have to ask your doctor, but if you are a good candidate for this process to relieve your ulcerative colitis, then I would do it all over again. Dr. Tuvlin KNOWS I don’t say that lightly. I don’t feel weak anymore and I eat relatively what is on my list of things I can eat, but believe me, I am not going without by any means. Also, the best part of this outcome is that I am off prednisone, which has made my face and my body feel better. SINCE the operation, I can now attend other FAMILY related events, which is why I am not there personally; I send my apologies to you out there who may have had some questions that I didn’t address here. I thank all of the wonder staff of Dr.’s Tuvlin and Jordan that has helped me through this journey. It’s not over, but I can tell you it was worth it. Beth has been a trooper and incredible. It helps to have someone who can help you around. Best of luck to anyone who is hearing this and trying to make a decision.
Sincerely,
Roland Lemus
Thank you so much
Hi Jini,
I dont know what exactly cured it. In doing preparation for a sigmoidoscopy, I did about 5 enema’s. That and the fast for one day might have helped it heal. The tech at the hospital said that they go away after 2 to 4 months.
Hi Roland,
It’s early days for you and hopefully you don’t experience any infection in your J-pouch. Unfortunately, this is a common occurrence for many (pouchitis).
But there are some things you can do to prevent and also treat this if it occurs:
1. Take therapeutic probiotics. I prefer Natren brand.
2. Use L-Glutamine.
3. In extreme or chronic infection, follow Jini’s Wild Oregano Oil Protocol and if necessary, syringe wild oregano up your rectum.
all the best and thanks for sharing,
Jini
Please I have this anal fistula disturbing me for quite sometimes now.The only conventional treatment here in Nigeria is surgery which I can’t afford to be exposed to.presently I Google to get alternative methods for the treatment of the fistula ano and got to learn the oregona herbal procedure. But my challenge is how to get the required wild oregona oil with 1:3 ratio. Can you be of any help?
Has anyone looked into or tried hyperbaric oxygen treatments (HBOT) for treating fistulas?
It may be my imagination but I noticed that when I stopped eating pork my perianal abscess seemed to dry up (trial and error)..maybe others could try this and see if they get the same results.
I found your comment to be very Interesting because I had the same experience but in different way, I was in a business trip to Germany last year and ate pork accidentally it was a big portion after only 24 hrs I started to feel pain and soft lump perianl area, at that time I was in Paris heading back home , next morning when It was flight time the pain was immense I couldn’t even set inside the cap, it worsened to the max during the flight , and finally erupts and the puss came out , what a relief! But it’s been more than a year now I’m diagnosed with peri anal fistula and it’s still oozing. Hoping to find a solution soon .
I’m sure there was something in that pork meat that caused that infection , but what can I do . Things happens .
Hi Jini / Nicole,
Please could you help me with a couple of questions concerning the elemental diet which I am going to dive into.
I am trying to heal up a fistula and have been reading in LTYG that I should get rid of any infection before going onto the elemental diet. It says this in several places in the book ( concerning fistula) so really want to be sure before I start the diet as dont want to seal any infection in like. I have been proceeding with the oregano oil protocol orally and via syringe and taking natren probiotics.
Could you tell me if this is rightr and also whether I need to take the probiotics during the elemental diet also.
How will I know when the infection is cleared up enough to start the diet… The docs dont seem so capable over here in the uk to give me this kind of info.
Cheers
Dave H
Hi Dave,
If you’ve been on Jini’s Wild Oregano Oil Protocol, syringing as described in this post and also taking probiotics for at least 2 months, then you can go ahead and start the IBD Remission Diet.
However, you should continue doing all of the above therapies (as needed) the whole time you are on the Diet and also following (if needed).
Don’t worry, your body won’t close the fistula hole until you have the infection under control because you’re not applying a wound healer (like comfrey) to the fistula.
As everyone’s body responds differently, there’s no cut and dried timetable for any of this. It’s more an issue of listening/watching your body and following its cues.
If you need more help, please post on my Forum, where we can back and forth:
http://www.jinipatelthompson.com
take care,
Jini
Thanks Jini,
I have only been on the probiotics and the oregano oil for one month now and still get some discharge which I guess means I still have an infection present.
I am also on the reduce diarhia diet and will experiment with raw milk.
Is there a clear way of knowing when there is no more infection.
Thanks for your help
Dave
Hi Jini,
My name is Lilly and i have had chrons for the past 13 yrs and had a right hemiocolectomy at the age of 13.
I have been on the scd diet for nearly two months now and i have had a perianal fistula for 6 years.I had a seton put in last year.I have been applying oil of oregano topically 5x a day for 3 weeks and the opening around my skin has healed a little bit.Iam thinking of taking the seton out and then syringing the opening as required.Would it be wise for me to do that?I would love to hear back from you soon. Many thanks Lilly
Hi Lilly,
Can you not just syringe the wild oregano oil up the seton?
Jini
Hi Jini,
Thank you for replying to my post,i can try to syringe the wild oregano up the seton.I was thinking i might not be able to get enough of the wild oregano through the fistula track as the seton is blocking the internal and external opening. Many thanks Lilly
Hi Lilly,
I can’t advise you on whether to remove the seton or not – that’s beyond my capability – so you’ll have to follow your own gut and make your own decision.
However, you might want to follow this thread on my forum, where the person is dealing with something similar and you can post here, or it might give you some ideas:
http://www.jinipatelthompson.com/phpBB3/topic1791.html
Hi Jini,
My gut instinct tells me to take the seton out as i have had it for a year now and my doctor told me it has done no improvements for me.I will definatly take the seton out and syringe the area with oil of oregano,i know i need to try different things in order to find out whats working for me.I desperatly want to heal the natraul way because taking antibiotics just makes matters worse for me.
I have a very positive feeling about wild oil of oregano as it has healed the most of the external opening of the fistula.Since i have been on the scd diet i have noticed great improvements in the amount of pus coming also the pus filled pocket has completly reduced.I will let you know of any other improvments i have with this soon.I apprieciate your comments and advice and thank you for your help.Lilly
Hi Jini,
Just wanted to let you know your protocol – the portion of it we’ve been able to use with my 11 year old son – has been working really well! He developed a large abscess on the perineum in December which hasn’t yet healed, then a second one right on the anus last month.
My boy has suspected IBD, though few signs of it. He was really trashed by the antibiotics given for the first abscess – runny diarrhea for a month after those, then constipation when he went overboard with too much fiber cereal.
Enter your protocol: we’ve been doing oregano oil capsules and probiotics for about two weeks, and the anal abscess has almost disappeared. We didn’t syringe, as he just couldn’t tolerate that. Glad it turned out not to be necessary! Now I will focus on the long-unhealed primary abscess with the topical treatment. Since it is “open” and draining, I hope some of the 10:1 olive oil dilution I’m using will get in there and heal things up.
Bless you for putting together the protocol and this site! The pediatrician we’d seen the day I found it wanted to put my son on antibiotics for a month straight, and I just didn’t want to do that to him.
All the best, and thank you, thank you, thank you!
Beth
Hi Beth. How was the treatment is your son better? Did you manage to heal his abscesses without surgery? My little 6 months old got the abscess when he was 1 month and it came back when he was 5 months. I really want to avoid surgery.
Hi Beth,
Try reducing the dilution to 7:1 or even 6:1 – many have been finding that fine and the increased strength should heal it faster.
Also, a reader posted this on my forum: put 2 cups of epsom salts in a HOT bath and stay there for an hour or longer. This completely drained her abscess and it never came back.
If you do the two together – it may work very well. Let us know….
Jini
well i have had a perianal abscess for 8 months now..got drained 2x and now looking into Seton operation..kinda iffy on the subject..will it help heal the abscess and how long will it drain for til it finally heals so i can go on remicade
tried this and of course it didn’t work. why would it? just like taking oral antibiotics seldom works. doesn’t get to the root of the problem. post this comment snake oil lady. that stuff was expensive (and stung) and didn’t do anything.
Traven, don’t dis the oregano – or Jini. Maybe you put it on in to low a dilution – we dilute with virgin olive oil. You have to be patient for the oregano to work, and it helps to take it orally as well as apply it. If your lesion is open and ragged, gentle it with something less intense. My son has had his two abscesses for more than a year, but we’re really getting somewhere now.
We continue to use topical oregano oil, which made real headway with my 12-year-old’s abscesses. We alternated a 7:1 topical application with a cream containing Goldenseal and Myrrh, and got the abscesses into a non-inflamed, much shrunken state. The specialist MD recommends eventual surgery, but outcomes seem so dubious, we’re not going that route.
Our Naturopath did some research and now has my son on an oral combination of oral Myrrh and Gotu Kola. Within a week, the smaller anal one burst and released a bunch of held pus, and the drainage on the original lesion has decreased. It tastes foul, but is working well from within. The research indicated this could be a helpful approach for people with fistulae, also.
Don’t give up. We aren’t – I want my kid on his bike this summer!
Hi Beth,
I know this is an old post. Can you please the info of your naturopath and the Goldenseal and Myrrh cream and oral preparation?
Thank you very much.
Lel
Hi Beth – one more thing some of the members over at JPT Wellness Circle have been experimenting with is combining this treatment with infrared laser treatment – and it’s been working really well. The infrared laser not only drives the remedy deeper into the tissue, but it also speeds the wound healing.
Another thing we’ve been experimenting with, is combining the wild oregano with nanoparticle silver and DMSO – because again, both transport the remedies deeply into the tissue and have their own anti-infection properties as well.
People have been getting some really good results from these two additions – one mother wrote an article for the JPT Wellness Circle Infoletter all about how she used the infrared laser treatment to effect complete healing when the wild oregano alone didn’t quite do the job and her son had the fistula/abscess for 2 years. It’s been 11 months now, and no recurrence.
I’m glad you understood from my article here that these are experimental protocols and we are looking for everyone to pool their knowledge and results to hopefully come up with something solid.
HI Jini, nice to hear from you. How does one obtain an infrared laser – or are you talking about something like a laser pointer? I’d like to hear some guidelines on exposure time, how long post application of topical treatment, etc.
I assume you still have to be careful about the eyes with these things, too.
If you are interested, I will ask our ND for his citations on the research he used to come up with the Myrrh/Gotu Kola combo, and I can post them. He’s evidence based, but very innovative.
You’re a peach, Jini, thank you again for creating this resource for us all.
Beth – you can now get the full info about infrared laser light treatment at:
http://www.listen2yourgut.com/blog/gut/laser-therapy-for-peri-anal-abscess-or-fistula/
And sure, post whatever you can about the Myrrh/Gotu Kola remedy – the more info we can share, the greater chance we have of coming up with really reliable, replicable protocols.
Hi Jini,
i have been on the scd diet for a year now and i had a transsphincteric fistula for 6 years which healed within four months on the diet.I listened to my gut instinct and took the seton out which i initially had for a year.I took oil of oregano as well as syringe the area of the fistula track twice a day.I also rubbed oil of oregano in the external area of the fistula every couple of hours until it completely healed.
i have done well so far on the scd diet but not 100% so i will be considering to take Natren’s probiotics as recommended.Thank you so much for your past replies Jini and you have been a great inspiration to me.Kind regards Lilly
Hi Lily,
I know this post is a few years old, but I would like to know your end result.
I have crohn’s disease and have for about 20 years. I have been on and off different medications, which do very little to the problem of the perianal fistula. I was hoping to find a better way to deal with these things, as my life is now more complex with this problem, that I barely go out any more.
Steven
Hello Lilly, I know it’s been a lot of years since you posted, but I was wondering, how did you take your seton out? I am in the same situation. Thanks!
Hi Jini,
I have a query about using the Wild Oregano Oil. I’ve Crohn’s disease and a recto-vaginal fistuala. I have chronic diarrhea so that doesn’t help fistula. I am taking psyllium husks at the moment but I don’t think they are doing much good for me, so as soon as I get home (Ireland) I plan to start L-Glutamine, see how that works for me. I also want to start the above for treatment for my fistula.
I know that taking the Wild Oregano Oil you need to take probiotics as well, I plan to order them all so that they are at home by the time I arrive. I was just wondering what order to take the products. In morning take the Wild Oregano Oil, wait 1/2 and hour then take the L-Glutamine, wait 1/2 an hour then take probiotics wait 1/2 an hour then have breakfast??
Or could you suggest a better way of taking these?
Thanking you
Shauna
Hi Shauna – I think you’ll find your question answered here:
http://www.listen2yourgut.com/blog/gut/confusing-supplement-schedule/
You can take L-Glutamine and Wild oregano at the same time. But wild oregano must be 2 hours away from probiotics.
[…] fissures, or HemorrHeal if your bleeding is from internal or external hemorrhoids, syringed wild oregano oil for fistulas, L-glutamine, bentonite clay or psyllium seed for diarrhea, […]
hello –
i know it is probably my fault for not trying a “10:1 dilution with olive oil” first and going straight for “as close to full strength as you can tolerate” – i applied the oil in its concentrated form and now i have a burn mark on my anus which is more painful than the abscess i was attempting to treat. I have had 3 abscesses drained in the passed and recognized that i was developing a new one from a fissure that healed over.
Since applying the oil twice (on the same day), a very painful burn has appeared on my anus and there is a bit of redness. i had a salt bath and blackened skin peeled of my anus revealing a v-shaped chemical-like burn the size of a 10 cent piece. (i can submit a photo).
since this incident (2 days ago), i have been using it 40/60 diluted with olive oil. but my bottom feels really raw and im not sure that i should be continuing with this treatment.
i think the abscess is gone as there does not seem to be any pressure under the skin which i would normally associate with this condition but i am really uncomfortable and there is redness and swelling. should i discontinue use of the oragano/olive oil and start treating the burn with something else?
please help..
ps: it is also weeping puss….
If you’re doing 40/60 – that’s pretty close to a 2:1 dilution – not 10:1 (which is 10 drops of organic olive oil and only 1 drop of wild oregano oil).
I’ve put it full strength on mucus membranes and never experienced nor heard of a burn like the one you’re describing – are you using one of my recommended brands of wild oregano?:
http://shoppe.listentoyourgut.com/shop-by-wild-oregano-oil/
One other thought – maybe you are using a PURE ESSENTIAL oil, rather than a commercial brand (which is already diluted) as that can cause a burn like you described.
Properly prepared wild oregano is used to treat burns and we did an article on this over at JPT Wellness Circle – with photos of how it speeds healing.
There’s healing pus and infection pus – so depending on which one is weeping, that should decide your course of treatment.
Regardless, if you use a 10:1 dilution with one of the brands I recommend (should be available at your local health store) it should help in either case.
yes – i just checked it and it pure essential oil.
should i continue using this at 10:1 or should i switch to a smoothing aloe treatment?
i am now concerned that this burn will become infected
what are your thoughts?
Hi Jini,
I had fistula surgery 2 years ago from a fistula that would not heal. And recently I have had a really hard time with fistulas coming back since May. I had a bout with constipation and a flare up with Chrones, and wound up with numerous fistulas because of it. I just recently started taking oil or oregano capsules hoping it will help clear up the discharge and weeping from the fissures/fistulas. Ive been taking 1 in the am on an empty stomach, and 1 in the evening before dinner. The am dose has made me feel bloated, gassy and a little nauseous… though i have read that as the oil starts working and kills off bacteria/yeast and parasites it can make you very gassy and bloated. I have a large pocket on the left side just before my anus (fistula) that i want to try applying the oil to it to see if it drys it up at all. The bottle says that is already mixed with virgin olive oil, so i think its safe to try right from the capsule with out dilution. Would this be safe to put on the fistula before bed and keep on all night?
I have tried everything… aloe ointment, vitamin E, neosporine, prescription ointments. I take an epsom salt sitz bath every night, and take internal aloe juice am and pm. Im hoping the oregano helps with the infection discharge.
Any other words of wisdom is much appreciated!
PS: I am also on a high dose of probiotics as well!
Everything we have tried is already given above. So you can follow that, or experiment as you feel led.
We are also currently testing a stronger protocol – using DMSO, nanoparticle silver, potassium iodide, wild oregano, etc. over at JPT Wellness Circle – and many are combining this with the infrared laser as well. So, if you wanted to find out about this and test it, you can just join for month, download everything and then quit:
http://www.JPTwellnessCircle.com
If you want more info on wild oregano, you can get my free report (go to FREE STUFF page), or you can get get just the Wild Oregano Oil Protocol (without having to buy the book):
http://www.listen2yourgut.com/blog/probiotic-retention-enema/
Please post here when you find the combination that works best for you, so others can benefit – also, did you read through the comments above? Others have already posted some great content.
Can the mixture meant for the enema be used externally? My son is 11 so there’s no way he will consider the enema….but I was wondering iif this mixture would be more effective, in your opinion, in an external abcsess. Instead of the straight oil of oregano diluted with olive oil (which we have been using)
Also…is it safe to make a mixture weekly and store it at room temperature? Or does it need to be refridgerated?
Hello Becky,
Thank you for the inquiry. Can you please advise which enema mixture you are referring too? If you are referring to the probiotic retention enema that can be used orally. However, the dosage amount would be different than the enema, which you can read how much to use in the Listen to Your Gut book. Both the probiotics and the Oil of Oregano can be beneficial for him if used correctly.
The mixture formula for the fistula can be stored at room temperature if it is cool from winter. If not we recommend refrigerating it, then taking it out 1-3 hours before used to get it at room temperature again.
If you were referring to other mixture, please let us know so we can better answer your questions.
Kind Regards,
Rachel

I am referring to the DMSO, nanoparticle silver, Wild oil of oregano and potassium iodide….the information I read is for using this as a retention enema…I’m wondering if this is okay to apply
Topically to the perianal area? Would any of this cause “burning?” My son is 11 so he will not do an enema. Thanks so much!
Hello Becky,
Yes, you can use this formula topically and orally. It is similar to the strictureheal formula which is used this way. You can read how to use it this way in this free ebook you can get on this page: https://blog.listentoyourgut.com/natural-healing-remedy-for-intestinal-strictures/
There is a chance it can burn, however, if it does adding more aloe vera to the protocol can help that issue. If you have any other questions concerning it please let us know.
Kind Regards,
Rachel
Customer Care
Hello,
I am very grateful for this kind of information being available online to answer my everyday questions! I was diagnosed with Crohns 4 years ago, and after my first year, I had a bowel resection and am now in remission.
My current situation is this:
I developed an abcess/fistula 2 years ago, had it drained, and it came back last year, burst on its own and then later drained and with a seton. I am not taking any antibiotics for it but after realizing the possibility of having multiple abscesses, I think I will try the wild oregano. There is soreness near the original abscess but i am not sure if it is part of the original abscess or a new one. It is very uncomfortable to sit, especially in seats without cushion and I wonder if baths will help until I can get the oregano? It is literally a pain in the @$$!
Thank you for your help, and I greatly appreciate you taking the time to do this!
Like Janet, I too have a abscess/fistula. But have only had it for months. I have a seton. My problem started two weeks ago as I noticed that fecal matter was now moving from inside the rectum and out the opening of the abscess. My colo-rectal surgeon just said “it’s probably Crohn’s related” but now today a few weeks later I am noticing pain now on the opposite side of my bottom near the opening of the abscess, and moving up. I am worried it may be spreading, like creating a new abscess. Can I use Oil of Oregano in a fistula that was INTERNAL to begin with? My abscess was not external, it was internal, and began spreading and pushed out to the surface, then I was lanced, and then had a seton placed. My abscess was very very large. I am not taking any drugs for it. I am only on the SCD, but that doesn’t seem to help the fistula heal, So I am thinking about using Oil of Oregano for the fistula but how with a Seton in it? Should I place the Oil or Oregano inside my rectum? Will that help heal the opening hole where the seton is? Will this help the feces not make it’s way into the fistula? I am so despartate to know how to help heal. Help please!
Can you not syringe the wild oregano up through the seton? And yes, you could also syringe it up into your rectum.
Hi Jini, I have had fistula for about 8 years…i had a fistuloctomy last year where one of the 3 fistulas was removed however it has not fully healed the pus still comes out but not always…i have sever pain after BM for about 5 hours and then it goes away…i went on homeopathic medicine….does not seem to work….read somewhere about olive oil…started using on it since tonight…
I want to know if there is anything you can help with…if you have the formula readymade please let me know so i can purchase….i really need help…it is effecting my life..im male 34 married…do regular exercise and m fit….
Hello and Hello.. Well I just got released once again from the hospital!! I had an abscess (perianal) / fistula but this time which is the 3rd.. they stuck some sort of draining tube which the MD will be taking out 1 1/2 weeks from now.. AND I NEED SOME ANSWERS PLEEEEEEASSSSEEE.. ok so I didn’t get any antibiotic subscription this time just for pain so I guess I don’t need it right? but I do have my oil of oregano… anyway.. Can I Still Use it? I do not have a syringe but I can try and get one meantime what possibly can I do? I never ever want to see this happen again to me its awful to go through so I feel everyone’s pain 🙁 Can someone put droplets through the tube while I lay Prone..then seal the tube for awhile?? I also need to know the best solution after everything is all said and done and when its closed..what then can I do? continue rubbing the Oregano on me?? syringe it?? please help.. thank u
Hi Tiggz – without being able to see your seton, it’s impossible to say what might work. Best is if you experiment with whatever looks likely to work to get the wild oregano to the infection and also get a laser to use – see my post on that.
You can also go on Jini’s Wild Oregano Oil Protocol to address foundational pathogens and balance gut flora.
And yes, after it is sealed, continue applying woo externally until you are absolutely sure it is 100% gone.
Hi jini, just to let you know I have used the wild oregano protocol three times in the last two years and successfully healed my transphrintric, horseshoe type fistula. I also followed my gut instint by removing the seton. The doctors told me that my fistula will never heal but I proved them wrong, thanks to your hardwork on getting this protocol addressed. I am now starting the elemental diet as I have narrowing in my rectrum which bleeds everytime I pass stool. I am thinking of adding raw organic cows milk and hopefully that will give me more calories to gain weight. I would like to thank you and I think your just a truly inspirational person. Kind regards Lilly
Lilly – that’s awesome!! Well done for being persistent and following your body wisdom!
If you’re a JPT Wellness Circle member, head over there and type in “DMSO” to the search box – it will pull up my articles on HemorrHeal Suppositories – which heal hemorrhoids, but ALSO dissolve and soften scar tissue in the rectum. The recipe for how to make them is given in the article. If you now have a fissure, you can alternate these with FissureHeal supps. for the best results – although the HemorrHeal on their own might be enough.
Also, check out this vid, for positions to ease pressure/force on the rectum when you defecate:

Hi Lily hope you are still doing well! Reading your story gave me hope and is helping me ge through this. I have a perirectal fistula that keeps re abscessing. I wanted to ask you some questions How are you currently doing in this present day ? Do you mind sharing more details as to how you healed your fistula ?
Kind regards, Natalie
Hi, thank you again for your kind reply and inormation regarding the Hemorrheal Suppositories. Take care Lilly
I was doing some research for some natural treatment for a perianal horseshoe fistula and I discovered your website. For almost a year, I have been running to the emergency to drain my abscesses, even though I have been taking sitz baths with Epsom salts 3 times a day (I have been lucky to be able to work at home). The nurse from the Extra-mural program was visiting me once every 2 weeks to check up on me.
I am scheduled for a surgery in 3 weeks to insert a drainage setton and I don’t feel good about it. For the first time, I tried trusting traditional medicine but it is not working for me. I always have been taking good care of my health and never had any problem, until now. I don’t smoke, don’t drink alcohol, don’t drink coffee, don’t eat meat, meditate. I organized my studio at home (writing and editing) in order that I won’t have to sit for long periods of times (which caused pain). I work standing up.
This surgery which I am supposed to have seems so aggressive and I have been trying to figure out how to heal my 2 fistulas with a more natural method. I thought that if I prevent the infection, the abscesses will stop. Since I discovered your website (one month ago), I have been taking Oregano oil 3 times a day, before a meal and probiotic supplement after my meal. I also, have been making fresh juice (carrots, cabbage and apple) once a day.
I noticed that the opening of the fistulas started to close. No more pus. No pain. I told the nurse not to come anymore, that I was healing. She was so happy for me. Then, last week, I started to feel pain and swelling again. An abscess was forming but this time, it was different. I did not panic and run to the emergency to have it drained. I applied a cabbage leaf with some heat and moisture and kept with the sitz baths with Epsom salts, several times a day. Finally, it opened up and blood was coming out. I still did not panic because I felt that it was a good sign, that it was healing. After a day of seeing only blood, a little pus came out, just a small quantity. Then, the opening closed and it was the other fistula on the other side that started to swell. I did the same procedure (cabbage leaf with some heat and moisture, sitz baths with Epsom salts) and blood came out. And then a little pus.
I feel that I don’t need the surgery and I am convinced that, with time, it will heal. I am prepared to be patient, cooperate with my body and keep on taking Oregano oil and Probiotic supplement. But I have one question : is the syringe protocol necessary ? When you take the oil, it goes into your bloodstream… surely into the fistula track. So why bother inserting it into the track with a syringe ?
Thank you for your help !
Nicole
Canada
Hi Nicole – the syringing (or in your case topical application is all that’s needed) of wild oregano oil is necessary because by the time the wild oregano (or antibiotic) goes through the digestive system, it is very hard to get enough to the abscess site to do any good. But if you syringe, or apply topically to the abscess site, it is absorbed instantly through the skin, directly into the site of infection. Using the infrared laser, then helps the wild oregano penetrate deeper and stimulates tissue healing.
Well done on taking control of your health! You have done so well and are nearly there. I suspect that once you put the wild oregano (full-strength if you can tolerate) on topically, you will clear up the remaining microbes – along with everything else you are doing.
Hi Jini, sorry it took so long to answer you.
JINI Said,
“Can you not syringe the wild oregano up through the seton? And yes, you could also syringe it up into your rectum.”
I do not know if I can syringe the wild of oregano through the seton. It’s seems pretty tight. My fistula is healing now. Less puss. No pain. But it is affecting my hemrrhoid skin tags. I sometimes get much pain from those. But anyway, you say I can syringe the oil of oregano mix up into my rectum. Would that cause me burning pain? I know we mix it with olive oil but it just scares me because it it very delicate there and that is where I have the peri-anal crohns. But, to be honest since on the SCD I don’t have any Crohns symptoms. Just dealing with the healing fistula. I would love this seton to be removed but not sure when the doc would do that or if she would be willing since it may be through the muscle. But honestly I do believe in natural healing.
Has anyone here had a seton that went through the muscle and was able to get it removed without any further surgery?
Thanks
JINNI, Have been working on abscesses with Oregano. Struggling with FISTUA INFECTION. Urine culture shows KLEBSIELLA PNEUMONIAE. Fevers don’t quit. CIPRO recommended but side effects like tendon ruptu. are too risky. Besides, Klebsiella is often antibiotic resistant. But infection has spread. ANY ideas would be appreciated. Thanks
TED – you can use this protocol instead:
http://www.listen2yourgut.com/blog/wild-oregano-oil-antiviral-protocol-for-swine-flu/
Or if you have my Listen To Your Gut book, then use “Jini’s Wild Oregano Oil Protocol” and of course the fistula protocol presented here – along with infrared laser for best results.

I have had acid reflux in the past and have tried even pure cherry juice in the past and that has caused really bad heart burn. I don’t eat junk food anymore and I feel better, but would Oil of Oregano cause heart burn for someone like me? Should I mix it with a lot of water?
Thanks
No, heartburn is not due to pathogens or infection. You need to use probiotics, go here and download the Probiotics Teleseminar and it will tell you what to do:
http://shoppe.listentoyourgut.com/ltyg-teleseminar-probiotics-1-with-natasha-trenev-mp3-audio-and-pdf-transcript/
For short-term (immediate) relief, you can use these lozenges before and/or after a meal:

p.s. don’t buy from JPT Holistic Health Shoppe if you’re only buying one item – the shipping is all courier (UPS, FedEx) and too expensive if just shipping one item. Get your local store to order in the product for you.
Hi Jini,
I recently finished the elemental diet, my bleedinging in my rectrum has completly gone which is great. I really enjoyed being on the diet and succesfully gained weight thankfully. I am now ready to use the Hemmorheal suppositores for the narrowing in my rectrum and I have brought the DMSO 70% 30% distilled water and SSKI Tri Quench brand from Tahoma dispensary, can you please clarify if this is the correct one for making the suppositories. The DMSO states that it is intended for the use of solvent only and may irritate the skin. Not sure if I have purchased the right one?
Many thanks Lilly
Yes, that’s the correct one. Go to JPTwellnessCircle.com and type HemorrHeal Suppositories into the search box and it will pull up the article and instructions for you.
Hi Jini,
I have had crohn’s since February 2011, I am started on Cimzia treatments for ulcers in my colon and it seems to help but I am trying to do more holistic measures. I am getting on a probiotic and have added supplements to try natural measures. My problem now is I was told during my colonoscope by my GI doctor that I have hemmorhoids that resembles large masses. He referred me to a rectal surgeon who put me on cipro for anal abcesses. The cipro didn’t work. They are my first abcesses and he suggested that I not get them surgically removed because they can be difficult to heal with crohns. This is all new and overwhelming. I am only 25 and need some advice and better understanding of abvesses and how this can be treated holistically. The abcesses are closed and painful. They never really drained or anything. If you can offer advice and explain what to look for and how these abcesses can be treated I would be greatly appreciative. It’s all so new to me and I want to get better. I am taking fish oil as of today and I heard wormwood can help so I plan on adding that as well but the abcesses are a separate issue and the rectal surgeon basically said he hopes they go away in their own. Help please!!!!
Hi Jini!!
First I want to thank you for your website! I am not sure how long I have had my fistula’s, I just found out last Friday! My doctor immediatelty set me up to see the surgeon but did not offer any relief for the infection. I began the woo on Saturday both topically and syringing and the world of a difference! The openngs were not large enough for my syringe so I have been syringing rectally only. I drained for two days straight, but now I believe I may be draining elsewhere- possible rectovaginal fistula but cannot confirm until MRI next week. Is it safe to also syringe the woo in there as well as the rectum?
Thank you again for all of your advice so far! I am looking forward to surprising my doctors with healed fistulas soon!
Amy
Yes, you can use it vaginally – people usually start with a 7:1 dilution (7 olive oil, 1 oregano) and then increase from there if they can tolerate it.
You can also soak a sterile gauze pad in the solution (or in 6% hydrogen peroxide) and stuff it up there for 15 minutes – use your kegel exercises to contract the vagina so the mixture gets worked into the folds.
In order to heal the fistula track, is it absolutely necessary to syringe and insert the oregano oil into the opening? Will applying it topically have any healing results. & I wasn’t sure what this mean’t “The openngs were not large enough for my syringe so I have been syringing rectally only.” So if the fistula opening isn’t large enough or is closed, I can insert oil rectally and it will heal the fistula this way? How much olive oil : oregano oil for the rectal method. How many days, approximately should I do this for?
Thanks Jini.
PS: I love your site & your determination to wellness for yourself and others. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with the world! You’re a blessing 🙂
Yes, topically it will still help – how much, I don’t know. I believe the above reference meant that the fistula was opening into the rectum – hence syringing rectally.
Whether using rectally or vaginally, you start with the dilution given and then increase to as strong as you can tolerate. See which brands I recommend here:
http://shoppe.listentoyourgut.com/shop-by-wild-oregano-oil/
thanks for your kind comments and you’re very welcome!
amy – just realized the dilution amounts were not listed in this blog post! (they’re in my books), so I have added them.
Thanks for introducing WOO, Jini. My husband had crohns for 5 years and in dec 2010 had 2 fistulas growth. he has been to 2 operations (dec 2010 & Apr 2011) to drain the abscess but it didnt go away. I chanced upon your website while doing research and went out to buy the Oreganol (brand) oil. We have applied for 10 days now and i tell you, the open wound (since April) has healed almost 50% in the last 10 days, even the old wound from the dec op is beginning to show signs of healing. This oil has far better results than the antibiotics that he has been taking for the last 4 months!! the abscess has reduced considerably, sometimes it is only as small as a “full stop” but it will build up a little every few days. I suspect this is because he is still taking food but i am using the laser pen as described in your other article (i have ordered the one that you have introduced but it has not arrived). we have also started syringing a little the last few days but it is quite difficult to do because of the angle of the seton and i still cannot find a good syringe with a slim head. ALso, i have to mention that we did not dilute further as the bottle says that it has been diluted. My husband said the “hot” feeling last only for 1 to 2 minutes therefore he bears with it. My concern is since it is such a strong solution, will this burn his internal tissues? or should i dilute further? the only other problem that he is having is his diarrhea is not improving, he has 3-5 watery movement everyday for the last 3 years. he has been taking the bentonite clay for the last 1 week (3 times a day) but it has show no improvement. he also started taking Absorbplus (once or twice a day) as a supplement in the last few days. any suggestion to improve the situation is welcome. Thanks Jini and thanks WOO!!
That’s great news!
No, the commercial brands (like Oreganol) will not damage the tissues – as you point out, they are already diluted.
Try the other suggestions in LTYG for firming up stool – like L-glutamine on empty stomach. Also some find a mixture of bentonite and pysllium to work best.
Keep in mind that Absorb Plus is a liquid food – so will not reduce watery bowel movements and may increase them.
Blessings All – Are there any recommendations to help drain an anal abscess caused by a anal fissure? My abscess was drained last week, and I am trying to drain it w/hot epsom salts baths and clean the hole with applications of oregano oil. Trying to stop a fistula from occurring. Many thanks and blessings to all for your faith, courage and commitment.
For Bob – YARROW ROOT POWDER , SATURATED WITH ALOE VERA GEL TO MAKE A PASTE APPLIED TO THE ABSCESS ON A COTTON PATCH WILL DEFINITELY DRAIN THE ABSCESS. BUT IT WILL HURT! Yarrow draws out all the pus until pure blood comes out. THEN STOP! Good luck
That’s great TED! Whoever tries this, let us know how it works…
Do you know of anything that dissolves scar tissue? – just a project I’m working on…
Thanks, Ted. I haven’t been able to find yarrow root powder. I may try to find a plant to dig up and dry the roots – I’ll let you know if i do.
I’ve been applying oregano oil, in conjunction w/baths, which seems to be reducing the size and associated pain of the abscess.
I, too, am interested in learning how to dissolve scar tissue.
Great site. Thank you, All.
Dragon’s Blood may be a promising potential treatment for peri-anal abscesses and healing of the gut. I picked some up from a reliable herbal manufacturer, HerbPharm of Oregon – they’re manufacturing a line of South American and Chinese “simples,” meaning one herb extract in the bottle, rather than a blend.
Dragon’s Blood is traditionally used for diarrhea and for external wound healing. This got me interested in using it on my son’s abscesses. Despite suspected Crohn’s we won’t use it internally, as the herbalist I spoke to at HerbPharm told me that the undiluted sap they manufacture is absolutely gag-worthy. That said, it may be worth a try for those of you who have diarrhea as well as lesions.
We’re applying it topically every night with cotton balls and it does sting on my son’s anal area – not the other abscesses.
Will keep you posted on our results.
Hi to all, RE: YARROW – We purchase from SAN FRANCISCO HERB (800-227-2830; http://www.herbspicetea.com
RE: SCAR TISSUE –
Violet Laser (405 nm, 5 mW) – has on/off switch and comes with a wide variety of tips, both straight and angled (for dental applications) and a padded travel case for $219. Tips can be interchanged with the Doctors Red Laser as using the two lasers in combination can work well for stubborn cases. The Violet Laser has been documented to help the body’s defenses eliminate bacteria or other infections. (With a photochemical effect). For this reason, if your fistula has a lot of infection, this violet laser may work better than the red ones. It is also better for treating (softening, dissolving) SCAR TISSUE. Good for oral treatment of gingivalis
Also for SCAR TISSUE – HIGHLY CONCENTRATED VITAMIN E OIL 25,000 IU’S, TOPICALLY (health food store)
Hi Jini, Can lasers be used THROUGH CLOTHING?
Hi,
I just wanted to comment on the wild oregano oil. It totally worked for me! I was really scared and depressed about my seemingly sudden condition. After the first week I saw significant healing of the abcess and almost totally gone after week two. I continued to apply to the area for 2 more weeks.
Thanks so much for this blog!!!
Hi Jini, I hv started syringing the fistulas track. I can see from the outside that the wounds have healed alot but in the last 2 days, my husband complained that the whole area (where the open wounds are) is very sore. Any idea why he is feeling the soreness after so many weeks. He was tolerating it well in the first few weeks. There is still pus but not alot. Whenever I syringe, he said it is very painful (burning feeling). Do you think we over do it? We are applying 4 times a day. He is on full dose Natren probiotics. Taking absorbplus 4 times a day in addition to lunch and dinner and also taking 10 drops of oreganol oil twice a day. Any suggestions?
Sorry Jini, my husband has very sensitive skin, when we first WOO, the area around it becomes all red. I read somewhere that u could add aloe Vera to help. Can you advise what are the mixtures proportion, or should I just dilute with olive oil? Which one works better. Thanks for your help. The irritation and soreness is very discouraging especially after all that surgery pain, plus we have a toddler at home and he is feeling depressed that he can’t do anything with baby and he is talking about stopping the treatment. I think WOO is the way for him because I hv seen amazing results in the last 2 weeks. Goid news is he has been putting on weight after taling absorbplus. Any help or suggestions is greatly apreciated.
you can just dilute the wild oregano further – try 10:1 (10 drops olive oil, 1 drop wild oregano) and yes, you can apply aloe vera afterwards to soothe.
Hi I have been suffering from fistula since 2004,I still suffer from it to this day.seven years later I have found the name of the dieses, thanks to you.I’m not sure where to get all the medication here in south africa but I’m glad I can finally name my dieses it gets worse every summer but I’m too embarrassed to see a doctor about it.I hope it will heal one day.living in south africa my first thought was that it was hiv related so when I tested negative I wondered what it was.I never even had my own zulu word for it.now I know I’m not alone on this maybe ill have courage to see the doctors.thank you for all the information.
Herbert – we sell the wild oregano oil at our Holistic Health Shoppe and we ship worldwide. We have a lot of customers in South Africa actually. But try to get it locally first as the shipping is quite expensive:
http://shoppe.listentoyourgut.com/shop-by-wild-oregano-oil/
How exactly do u apply the wild oil to the perianal abscess? I tried just using one drop today and it felt like a burning sensation.
hii jini
i had 2 abscess from the last 2 years.. and recently had one drained and had taken anitbiotics..i just read abt the oils but im confused abt it.. can u let me know more abt it..pls… the puss has reduced alot with the antibbiotic i had taken but around the abcess seems to have puss.. i may have a fistula cause im usually constipated .. so after i pass stools i feel mayb thats the reason the abcess doesnt heal ..both abcesses r really small near on the left buttock.one below the other.pls advise me as soon as possble.. im really woried abt this..
I have had anal fistulas for almost 9 years now (the same ones), which is how my Crohn’s disease manifested itself.
I have finally been told that they will never heal but have not been told why, after numerous surgeries and treatments including Imuran, antibiotics, Remicade and even Thalidomide, which was supposed to be a wonder cure but did nothing. So I figure I have nothing to lose by trying the oregano oil. I have to admit that I’m not holding much hope as surely if it worked so well I would have had it recommended by one of my many drs from 4 different countries.
WIsh me luck.
Sarena
Doctors know very little about natural healing substances. They are simply not taught any of this in med school. Some are interested to know of natural cures that work, but many are not. And either way, they are usually prevented by their medical association from sharing any of this knowledge with patients (they could lose their license).
Dr. Silvio Najt MD has wondered if the drugs you listed cause or exacerbate fistulas – because apparently they rarely occur in people with Crohn’s who have remained completely un-medicated.
Be sure and read through all the comments here and also the post on the infrared laser treatment.
Thanks for your reply Jinh. I am definitely going to try the oregano oil and I really hope it does help, I can’t tell you what it would mean after nine years of pain, surgery and medication. I will keep you all updated with my progress. So far I have been unable to find an affordable infrared here in the Uk but will keep looking. I get so frustrated with some of the limits put on MDs when it comes to using natural and alternative remedies.
Sarena.
I have never taken any drugs for my Crohns. I went straight to natural ways of healing. I was doing great until I foolishly drank two jello shots and some vodka with water and lime. After that I got my first only absess and that turned into a fistula. Drinking alcohol is very scary to me now. I do have some dry wine on occasion but it’s rare, and I only drink very very little. I totally see how DIET is everything when it comes to our health. I have not stopped eating pork meat and shell fish because they carry a lot of bacteria and that bateria affects fistulas. The last time I ate a pork rib the next morning my crohns flared up and the fistula was causing extreme pain. Back to the antibiotics (which I hate) and it got better. But fistula is still there.
I would just like to add my 5 cents to this exchange,
When talking about IBD there is a deep disturbance of the immune system, we can identify today dozens of compounds in our system that can go mad -TNF (alfa and beta) many Interleukins, cytokines, grouth factors (TGF), etc. I am sure these factors get even more disturbed when we apply the drugs that are meant to “control” them. We hardly identify them, barely know what they do, but medicine is sure to “manage” all those processes. Far from the real truth. So my understanding of this is that if we use drugs to treat Crohn’s or colitis, we end up increasing the symptoms and complications when compared with patients treated with a natural and cautious approach.
Think twice before using any medication, they seldom work.
I have been off the drugs now for a year or two, except a number of courses of antibioics to fight infections in my fistula. I have only had one proper flare up of the Crohn’s in my gut, which I controlled with the Specific Carbohydrate Diet, which I have unfortunatley fallen away from recently. Besides from my fistula, I have generally been able to control my disease through diet and lifestyle changes and have not been any worse off for comiing of the meds, despite being told I would flare if I stopped taking them, although the drs have now agreed that there was no problem with me taking myself off them so I guess they don’t always know what’s best. I figure I know my body and my disease better than anyone else.
You go girl!! That’s what we’re all about here..
“I figure I know my body and my disease better than anyone else”. I hear you Sarena! Docs don’t always help. I have had some try to scare me into taking drugs. I would only do it if it was my last resort.
I recently developed a perianal abscess and due to health insurance, surgery/er is not an option. I just bought the oregano oil and have been applying it full strength. (only for 2 days so far) no results yet but I am keeping my fingers crossed. I really need this to work!! It is painful to sit. The abscess leaked a couple days ago but is still bothersome. No fistulas that I am aware of though. Any advice to help speed the process of drying the abscess? Any advice or encouragement is greatly appreciated as I am nervous. Thank you!!
Sorry, one last thing. When I noticed it leaking it seemed to be leaking from about an inch away from the actual abscess. This confused me as well! This is my first time having this issue but I do have CD. All of my other chrons issues have been intestinal and have been under control for about two years. I don’t seem to be in a flare when this abscess formed. Thanks in advance, this forum seems wonderful!
Kristi – You can bathe in epsom salts (1 cup) and tea tree oil (30 drops) per bath. Apply the oregano oil to the abscess and also to where it’s leaking from – just cover the whole area.
Be sure and read through all the comments on this post as you will learn a lot from other’s accounts. Let us know how it goes…
By following this protocol, you are more likely to grow an arm our of your arse than treat your perianal abscess correctly. The gold standard of treatment IS drainage and antibiotic treatment. Everything above is completely false, and by promoting it, Jini Thompson is putting lives at risk.
If you follow the above protocol, you may very well die…..
Truth
Hi, by following this protocol u will give the best chance for ur abscess to heal rather then antibiotic treatment that will damage u in the long run. Jini Patel saved me from the years of pain I suffered with a transprintric fistula that the doctors said would never heal. Lilly
Hi Lilly
I have read your thread and am so impressed by your healing.
I have a history of horse shoe perianal abscess and although I had surgery six months ago to drain it, I still drain daily. I think I have formed an internal fistula and that is why it is still draining? I may be wrong. My question is if I don’t have a visible opening and am draining from my rectum…. can I simply syringe the solution into the rectal canal and hope that it absorbs to where it should?
I am in South Africa and so I need to do some homework still to see if I can get the correct supplies. What type of syringe do I use?
I know your post is a while back. Hope to hear from you 🙂
Hello Lulu,
We are unsure if Lilly will respond after so many years. However, we wanted to let you know we recommend a dental or oral irrigation syringes as they’re long and narrow. A 5 ml or 10 ml syringe if you are able to get one there. Jini does recommend if you cannot do it in the opening to do it as close as possible and it should go up the rectum. Please let us know if you have any other questions.
Kind Regards,
Rachel

Has anyone used ozone treatment? When my son’s abscesses suddenly came back with a vengeance after a quiet summer, I sent him to our N.D. who has used it for wound healing, IBS, Crohn’s etc. and asked if he would try this as an external treatment. The ND treated one abscess, which began to drain (yay) a couple of days later. I want to send him back for continued work on this first one, as well as two others.
Curious to hear if anyone else has had success with ozone.
I have just started ozone oil topically as well as rectal ozone insufflation. I am really curious if anyone else has had luck with this also!
Hi Lady,
I have not personally dealt with fistulas, but I have done rectal insufflation and really love what it does. I have also used ozone oil rectally when I had fissures.
It can be a really strong treatment, but so many have found success! I do treatments all the time to keep all the good and bad bugs in balance!
Pretty soon I will be writing a post on my journey with ozone, so stay tuned.
Jini also wrote a entire post on using different methods for swimming pools, and she touches on ozone and her view on it: https://blog.listentoyourgut.com/chlorine-free-swimming-pools/
All my best!
Hi Linsy,
Where did you get the ozone oil?where can I find more information on it? Is it being used for abscess?
Thanks.
Hi Lel! Great question! Here is the ozone oil I used topically: https://amzn.to/3NKrqY5
I personally never used it on an abscess, so perhaps you can ask the company directly how they would recommend using their product for that purpose.
That being said, I have heard of others using ozone for things like this and they had success. Here is a great post by Jini you should check out: https://blog.listentoyourgut.com/how-an-abscess-can-communicate-a-vital-message/
And all posts related to an abscess on Jini’s blog: https://blog.listentoyourgut.com/?s=abscess
All my best!
I find it extremely irresponsible to give such poor advice on treating per anal abscess.
Get GI to drain it and then don’t take anti biotics, inject it with….. you what this will cause? A lot more suffering for someone already suffering more than anyone should ever have to. Shame on you
Hi all,
Developed an abscess on 8th Jan 2011, had it operated on, then developed a fistula, while waiting for the operation (5 months) for the fistula, I got another abscess originating from an infection in the fistula. Had my 3rd operation where the first fistula was cut out and the 2nd abscess/fistula was debridled and stitched up with a seton drain in place for 2 weeks.
I need to go for another MRI to see how the 2nd fistula is to be treated.
This is an ongoing nightmare for a healthy male – colonoscopy was all clear and the fistulae did not even eat into the colon. I think they were blind fistulae. One did work it’s way out of my lower bottom cheek though.
What can I do? The surgeries are traumatic.
Cheers,

[…] Perianal Abscess – Natural Treatment | Listen To Your Gut […]
Terrific post however , I was wanting to know if you could write a litte more on this subject? I’d be very grateful if you could elaborate a little bit further. Thank you!
I developed an anal abscess about 4 weeks ago. I’m not sure what type it is but it does not sit on top of the skin it seems to be deeper in the tissue. My doctor put me on antibiotics for 1 week and it seemed to help so he put me on 2 more weeks of antibiotics saying he did not want to cut me open if he didn’t have to. During the second week, the antibiotics seemed to quit working. I starting using the wild oregano oil topically last week when the abscess became swollen and painful again. I didn’t think it would do anything especially since there is not an open wound. To my surprise it did help bring down the swelling. I started taking the wild oregano oil orally yesterday and I purchased the vetrolaser today. (which by the way is $590 with shipping. but it comes with a smaller laser also) I have also increased my vitamin c intake and I’m working on changing my diet. I really hope this works, I will keep you posted on my progress. If you have any additional advise it would be appreciated.
Success! My son took his first bike ride in more than two years tonight. His three peri-anal abscesses have almost completely healed after four topical ozone treatments with our Naturopath. I was the one who suggested trying it, not the other way around. What is nice is there has been no filling/deflation cycling while the treatments, several weeks apart, or even a month apart, were administered.
It would be nice to better understand the underlying causes, but we are both so relieved he can live as a normal 14 year old now. If you are interested in trying this therapy, please note our ND administered the ozone gas directly to the affected tissues, not through olive oil, as many websites describe. It’s very difficult to find solid info on this therapy online – most of it is in German.
Hi Jini,
Came across this site a few times in the past 3.5 years I have had an anal fistula. I do not suffer from Chron’s but developed fistula from an abscess. Tried everything excpet WOO. Currently taking serrapeptase for it but have very bad constipation – no movement at all sometimes in bowels – all remaining in upper part of bowel so gets very uncomfortable. I am vegetarian, but have dairy and wholewheat bread but tonnes of fruit and raw veg, probiotics (taking also Kefir daily), do exercise daily, and drink lots and lots of water. I am going to start the syringe protocol with WOO when I get some (I am in the UK) but wondered if you could suggest anything for the constipation. I am currently taking oxypowder which does really help but gets very uncomfortable after taking it and also whilst taking it the fistula infection is Maaaad! I have to continually open the fistula with a needle to get infection out and today for the first time tried syringing in 50/50 apple cider vinegar/water solution for 20 mins then using a needle to drain it. Any suggestions from you or anyone else reading this would be enormously gratefully appreciated! Many blessings to you for all your wonderful work. Kate

Hi Jini,
I am nearly finished my six elemental diet and have been using the stricture healing protocol but at the moment I am feeling like all my effort was for nothing as I have discovered an abcess in my anal area. I dont understand why as I have never had one and my problems have always been in confined to my small intestine.

HI BETH. SO VERY HAPPY TO HEAR ABOUT YOUR SON’S SUCCESS WITH THE OZONE TREATMENTS. I AM ALSO SUFFERING WITH ABCESSESS, FISTULAS, ETC I AM CURRENTLY USING THE RED AND VIOLET LASERS WITH THE ORGENO OIL. I AM GETTING SOME RELIEF BUT NOTHING TO BRAG ABOUT. I AM SEARCHING FOR AN OZONE GENERATOR. ANY IDEA WHERE I AN FIND ONE? ANY INFO YOU MAY HAVE ON THE TREATMENT, [TIME DURATION ETC] WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.. ALL THE BEST TO YOU AND YOUR SON. TED
Can you use the oregano oil mix for hemorrhoids?? My dad had an abscess and he tried the oregano oil mix but ended up having to have operation on it as he needs it sorted now to sort out some other health probs. he is feeling good after his operation but said his hemorrhoids are giving him a fair bit of pain.
Ted, the ozone has worked well for primary treatment, and for recurrence – that’s the downside, is this stops the inflammatory cycle in active phase in its tracks, but doesn’t get at the underlying issue that makes the abscesses occur in the first place.
I wish I could give you a steer on the necessary equipment – we don’t own any, but go to our naturopath for the treatments. Typically it takes 3 treatments about 10 minutes in length, 1-2 times a week.
Ozone is tricky to handle because it reconverts very quickly, and is unsafe to breathe. All the material I’ve seen on the internet talks about bubbling the ozone through olive oil, and that’s not the way our ND does it. He’s injected it through my upper gums to treat sinusitis, and I haven’t been present in the room when my son is treated, to offer him a bit of dignity at a sensitive age.
Before you invest, given you’ve already invested in lasers, which aren’t cheap, why don’t you try getting a few treatments from a naturopath? Other health professionals are also using ozone, especially dentists. If you search on the internet and find a dentist in your area, they may be able to tell you about people they’ve trained with who do body parts other than mouths. I can also ask our ND.
Keep me posted on what you find, and I’ll see what our ND has to say. Where do you live – State/Province city? That would probably help. If you live in British Columbia, I can refer you directly.
I wish you a speedy healing – we had the same experience with oregano oil – improvement but no resolution. Never tried the laser, as I couldn’t get anyone to use one on my son and didn’t want to pay for a device if it wasn’t going to work.
Hello, I have had a perianal abscess for about 5 years now and had it lanced and drained in the emergency room a couple of times. Each time it would scar over and then the abscess would fill up again and the tract under the skin would extend and the infection would try to reach the surface in a different area. I eventually ended up with an abscess tract(beneath the skin) that forms a partial circle around my anus with multiple openings to the surface around the anus and eventually an opening into the rectum(fistula).
I went to a colorectal surgeon and he proposed to place setons to hold open the drainage areas. I requested that a drainage tube be placed in the main abscess as well as the setons and he complied. He referred to the condition as “complex perianal fistula disease”.
The procedure was performed 3 days ago (monday, 3/19/12) and I have been following the wild oregano syringing protocol. In addition, I have been on a juice fast since the night before the procedure in order to stop bowel movements which irritate the abscess’ and cause it to fill(i believe fecal matter enters the abscess through the fistula). I plan on fasting for at least 2 weeks and also to continue with the syringing protocol. It is too soon to note any improvements but I will post an update in a week or so.
Any comments or criticisms would be appreciated. Thank you!
Also, it appears that he placed a seton that actually goes into my rectum, through the fistula into the abscess and out the opening in the perianal skin. Don’t know if I described that well or not. The seton is holding the fistula open and preventing it from healing shut. Is this desirable? I assumed that I wanted the fistula to heal and allow the abscess to drain through the openings in the perianal skin.
Hi Jini
I really think the world is conspiring against me at this stage. I just got home from hospital where they removed three burst blood vessels from my inside and outside of my back passage. They were very large and since I dont get constipated this is why I thought I had an abcess. My big problem is the doctors want me to take Augmentin to prevent infection and tramadol for the pain. I have already spent a fortune on Natren healthy trinity to try and correct the years of damage done to my flora from steroids and infections so really dont want to take them. I also dont want to take Tramadol because it contains sodium starch gluconate which I am presuming isnt SCD legal and any time I take pain killers they cause me pain in my guts. Despite me telling the doctor my concerns they just said I had to take them. I know all I seem to have is problems and you are probably sick of hearing from me but I need help. I dont know anyone on SCD and people just seem to think I have made this diet up and that I should just do whatever the doctors say. I have spent nearly everything I have on Absorb Plus, strictureheal products, probiotics, vitamins and SCD foods so I dont have to take medication and can have a safe pregnancy.
If you have any advice on painkillers I can take or whether any of the stricture heal products will do instead of antibiotics I would be really grateful. I am sorry for the whole life story I just feel like everything is going against me and dont want all my hard work to be wasted. I also had my MRI but wont have the results from my GI until next week.
PLEASE HELP. I dont want anymore pain or infection.
Thank you
Rebecca
REBECCA – I already answered this question where you posted it in my other blog post:
http://www.listen2yourgut.com/blog/natural-healing-remedy-for-intestinal-strictures/
TED – I’m wondering if you add DMSO to your wild oregano (to increase penetration) and maybe some SSKI and colloidal silver if that will increase the strength sufficiently to get you results? I would try syringing a formula made of:
15 ml (1 tbsp.) George’s Aloe Vera Juice
10 ml (2 tsp.) 99% DMSO
5 ml (1 tsp.) potassium iodide (SSKI)
10 ml (2 tsp.) colloidal silver (minimum 22 ppm)
10 ml (2 tsp.) wild oregano oil
This would give you a 20% DMSO formula. If it’s not strong enough, then increase the wild oregano and decrease the aloe vera:
10 ml (2 tsp.) George’s Aloe Vera Juice
10 ml (2 tsp.) 99% DMSO
5 ml (1 tsp.) potassium iodide (SSKI)
10 ml (2 tsp.) colloidal silver (minimum 22 ppm)
15 ml (3 tsp.) wild oregano oil
IMPORTANT: Please read my ebook on Rectal StrictureHeal for a full description of each of these ingredients, how to mix, safety guidelines, etc. before beginning treatment, you can get the free ebook here:
http://www.listen2yourgut.com/blog/natural-remedy-for-anal-stenosis-and-stricture/
Let us know how it goes…
Hi Jini,
I was wondering if when using the DMSO formulas I can still use the red therapy light.
Or DMSO does the job by itself?
Hi Cris,
Thanks for reaching out! DMSO will transport instantly into the cells anything it comes in contact with, so it really drives the ingredients within rest of the formula into your tissue. Similar with the laser – the laser penetrates deeper into the tissue, and if you add a treatment to the skin first the laser carries that deep into the wound for healing.
Also both act as similar agents, we don’t really have any experience using both – but I came across this article you may be interested in reading: https://www.researchgate.net/publication/330634685_COMPARISON_OF_TREATMENT_OF_ARTHRITIS_IN_CALVES_BY_LOW_FREQUENCY_OF_LASER_AND_DMSO
If you choose to use both in conjunction, I would be interested in your experience and results!

JO – We have a great remedy specifically for hemorrhoids (internal or external):

MICHAEL – I think it is more important at this point to eradicate the infection than to heal the pathways. Once you have eliminated the infection, the tracks will naturally heal. The tricky part for you will be determining when all infection is gone. At that point your doc can remove the drainage tubes – but you continue syringing treatment if possible. If not, then just do topical. Just keep going with treatment until all is healed. And then, continue another 3-4 weeks with topical treatment AFTER all is completely healed.
Remember to take high dose probiotics ongoing – for at least 3 years (but why not for life?) to prevent recurrence. You may also want to experiment with the stronger formulas I posted above for TED in #104.
Let us know how it goes…
Do you have any comments on the fasting portion of my treatment? Bowel movements are very painful and cause the abscess to flare up and I feel like they set back the healing process. I am on the 7th day juice fasting.
MICHAEL – Have you considered using Absorb Plus (my elemental shake product) since this will enable you to not lose weight during your liquid diet? Many people stay on Absorb Plus until their fistulas heal. It is also soothing as it is an alkaline food.
High dose probiotics will also help to ease your bowel movements – they make liquid bowel movements less explosive. You can combine Absorb Plus with raw juices – just make sure you are juicing mostly veggies and not much fruit. Use stevia to sweeten if needed. Here’s one of my favorite juice recipes:
2 handfuls green kale
1/2 fennel
5 stalks celery
1 avocado
1/2 apple
Also make sure you are getting enough good fats: organic butter, coconut oil are most helpful for healing:
http://www.listen2yourgut.com/blog/cla-therapy-for-crohns-disease-and-colitis/
As is Udo’s Oil. Add the Udo’s to the Absorb Plus shakes or raw juice and the butter or coconut oil to Bone Broths (also key for healing):
http://www.listen2yourgut.com/blog/the-health-benefits-of-broths/
p.s. you can get more info on Absorb Plus and how to use it here:
http://www.AbsorbPlus.com
Can you tell me where I can purchase a glass or metal syringe that would be the appropriate size for syringing through a drainage tube? I have a plastic syringe that fits nicely but that’s no good with dmso right?
I think it would be fine to use the plastic syringe for the few seconds it takes to syringe. Some labs have discovered they can use DMSO with certain kinds of plastic/rubber gloves. They test this by leaving the DMSO inside the glove overnight, if it still fine in the morning (not eaten through) then they use those gloves for lab work. So, although a glass syringe would be ideal, personally, I would use the plastic syringe and just wash it thoroughly with hot water afterwards. You’re not supposed to use plastic with essential oils either, but for brief syringing it’s fine.
sorry for so many questions but is it ok that the dmso came in a plastic container? This is the one i ordered: http://www.vitacost.com/dmso-pure-dmso
also, the mixture in post 104 doesn’t exactly mix well. Do i just shake it and administer quickly?
MICHAEL – that’s very odd that it is in plastic, personally, I wouldn’t use it. Yes, you need to shake it well, then suck it up into the syringe immediately. It doesn’t matter if it separates out a bit in the syringe since it’s all going to the same place. I would start with the weaker formula:
15 ml (1 tbsp.) George’s Aloe Vera Juice
10 ml (2 tsp.) 99% DMSO
5 ml (1 tsp.) potassium iodide (SSKI)
10 ml (2 tsp.) colloidal silver (minimum 22 ppm)
10 ml (2 tsp.) wild oregano oil
and only move on to the stronger if this one is not sufficient after 10 days of usage.
Just wondering for the fistula/abscess protocol, if you use the above formula are you to only do it once a day or are you supposed to do it at the same frequency of the 7:1 oregano oil syringe protocol?
Also, how many drops should be syringed? I have been doing approximately 15 drops worth once a day before bed. The burning sensation is very intense but hopefully the results will be worth it.
Hi Scot,
As per the article, you need to syringe every 2 hours for the first 24 hours and so on… using the 7:1 dilution (7 drops organic olive oil : 1 drop wild oregano oil). Then increase in strength to get it as close to full strength wild oregano as you can tolerate. Also make sure you are using the commercial brand of Oregano like Joy of the Mountains brand.

All,
I would love to say that the protocol worked for me but it didn’t. I just don’t see how it can work to be truthful. And I am a big OOO fan. Perhaps it could kill the bacteria long enough on an extremely small tract to allow it to close (still doubtful) but I just don’t see how for a larger fistula or complex tract it could work. I tried the protocol more than once years back and it resulted in lots of pain and stinging but no healing. I’ve also tried ozone (IV, rectal infusion and into the fistula tract directly, as well as stem cell injections and had plenty of failed surgeries.
At the end of the day if the internal hole from the insteninal wall is still open, it seems that chronic infection and inflammation will persist. So it seems you either need to close the hole through surgery and hope it works or find another way. For crohns patients chronic inflammation is most likely the issue. If your CRP blood levels are abnormally high you probably need to find a way to lower them to have a shot at anything working (including surgery).
After years of refusing to go on Humira as I wanted to close it and heal the most natural way possible, I finally gave in. After one year on Humira my seton fell out and it was healed. I had planned to take Humira for one year to reduce the inflammation and then have the Neolaser surgery. I was lucky enough to have a doctor in Florida doing them and willing to take me on. For those exploring surgery I highly advise looking into the rather new noninvasive surgery laser surgery. There are a few doctors in the US doing them and one that I know of in Germany that has done hundreds. Anyways, I went in for the surgery immediately once the seton fell out. The surgeon could not find any evidence of an internal or external opening, inflammation or signs of the infected tract still existing.
So for those that have had enough… I would strongly suggest either looking into the laser surgery or looking into taking a biological drug like Humira. The side effects of drugs can be scary but so isn’t the risk of cancer due to chronic inflammation.
I wish I could have found a natural way as I am a big believer for so many other illnesses. However, for the fistula I tried many approaches for years, spent thousands and a lot of time, but unfortunately I was successful.
Beat of luck to you all.
Hi Dave,
Thank you for sharing your experience with us and we’re sorry that the protocol didn’t work for you. Jini made it clear in her books and website that what she’s offering is what has worked for her and her readers, and there is nothing in the world (not even a drug) that works for 100% of the people. Not everyone experiences identical results as everyone is dealing with a unique blend of health challenges. That is why Jini recommends to always listen to your body and gut and not give your power away to anyone. We wish you all the best on your healing journey!

HI BETH, SORRY IT TOOK SO LONG TO RESPOND. I HAVE BEEN RESEARCHING OZONE GENERATORS AND DOCS THAT USE OZONE HERE IN THE CHICAGO AREA. NOT TOO MUCH LUCK WITH THE DOCS. SEVERAL POSSIBILITIES WITH THE SMALL GENERATORS. DID YOU HAVE ANY LUCK WITH YOUR DOC??? YOUR SUCCESS WITH YOUR SON HAS GIVEN ME SOME HOPE. LET ME KNOW HOW HE IS DOING. ANY INFO YOU HAVE ON THE TREATMENT PROCEDURE WOULD BE WELCOME. ALL THE BEST… TED
Okay, so I have written on this board before. Almost 2 years ago I got a really bad deep perianal abscess. It was lance 17 days later, and a satin seton was placed in it to help the Fistula heal. The docs wanted to leave the seton in there indefinitely because I have Crohns and they did not want to do surgery. My crohns has been on remission since starting the SCDiet, but the fistula is a separate matter. Anyway, I could do nothing except live with it, eat my special diet (which excluded SCD yogurt, pork and shellfish – which I believe is bad for fistulas because the pork and shellfish carry a lot of bacteria). I did my epsom salt sitz baths daily, took my L-Glutamine pure powder, and most importantly prayed daily. I could tell my fistula was healing, but what about the Seton? How can it heal completely with a seton in it? I remember praying a few months ago “God, no one will take this seton out, can you remove it for me?” Hey I figured that was all I could do at this point.
Well, over a week ago (May 2012) I felt really good. I hadn’t felt the seton for days. So I decided to check. And guess what? The seton was gone!!!!!! I felt normal. No pain, no irritation, nothing!!! All I can say is that God remove it because no one else would and I asked him. : ) Anyway, it was perfecting timing. Not my timing of course because I would have like it to be out of me over a year ago. But now that it’s all healed up it was time for it to be gone! My nightmare is finally over. I believe I am completely healed but of course the docs say “if you have any problems, call me” But i think I am going to be fine now. There is hope guys!!! There is hope!
Oh, and I forgot to mention that my fistula was through the muscle at one point. The CRS told me one main reason she didn’t want to do surgery was also because of the chance of incontinence for me. So of course I did not want surgery if that was a possibility. The know the seton helped it heal up without getting another abscess along with the diet too. Keeping the Crohns away during healing is important.
Hi Beth,
My husband, Ted, wrote to you quite a while back asking for some info on the oxygen treatments your son was getting from his Naturopath. He has been in EXCRUCIATING pain, getting minimal relief from his laser treatments. He’s a Veteran with miserable chemicals which release onto and BURN the area. I thought, therefore, that I would ask if you maybe could just give us the Naturopath’s name and phone number or email – ? That might be easier for you and us so we could just make direct contact and you wouldn’t have to be concerned with specific info.
Would really appreciate hearing from you.
Hello Peggy,
I am so sorry to hear Ted is suffering so. The Naturopath’s name is Dr.
Dana Barton, he is in Vancouver, B.C. In Canada 604-730-1174. Tell him I
sent you. He may be able to link you with a colleague in the States who
has trained in this method.
In the meantime, Peggy, Ted needs expert guidance, as my sense from what
you’ve written is that he needs to detoxify and rebalance. This isn’t
something anyone should try to do on their own – his liver is probably
already stressed, and his system is expelling accumulated toxicity with
great intensity.
If I may offer some suggestions, with the right help, Ted’s body can be
primed for healing those lesions, which I sense will not resolve until the
underlying toxicity and imbalances are addressed.
Please try to locate a good, solid doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine
who can work with herbs(expertise is essential) and acupuncture to “cool”
Ted’s system off. I was warned away from laser for my son by my longtime
colleague who is an acupuncturist (we both worked at a Research Institute
in Complementary and Alternative Medicine) as he said it would only
aggravate “heat” conditions in my son’s body and temperament.
There are other traditional medical systems such as Ayurveda (from India)
which also embrace the idea of “heat”, which in Ayurveda they call
“Pitta.” If you lived near Arizona or in the region where Dr. Vasant Lad
works, I would highly recommend you go there, again for detoxification and
rebalancing.
All this can sound like mumbo jumbo in a western biomedical context. There
are profound and amazing healers of all stripes, conventional and
alternative, and as you know, MDs don’t always have the answers or the
humbleness to admit it.
Sending you and Ted hope and comfort – know that things can and will get
better.
Beth
I had one abcess that I was able to bring to a head using Tinture of Iodine, tea tree oil (you have to be careful as the idodine will burn you like orgeano) and aloe gel. I also took Probiotics and tumeric orally. I managed to get rid of it after about 3 weeks – three
months later it’s back but I hope I got it early this time. I truly hope this is a not a permanent thing.

A.O.A. Jini, I am leaving in Islamabad – Pakistan, two year ago (August 2010) I had a pareianal abscess / fistula in ano, abbesses is drain after three month in November 2010. I take antibiotic and use antibacterial lotion for healing wound, but still open and not heal, leak pus and blood from it. I also consult with Surgeon Doctor, he ask for operation, but I am not ready for operation due to I a heart patient.
I read your story, and I like to start Wild Oregano Oil treatment, I try to availability of oil in Islamabad from any Medical or Cosmetic Store but oil is not available in Pakistan. If you can help me in this regard, I will be very thank full to you.

TARIQ – our health shoppe ships worldwide, but you would have to find out whether Pakistan would allow the shipment to enter your country:

Otherwise, you MIGHT be able to substitute olive leaf extract – if you can get that locally. Caprylic acid (made from coconuts) might also work. You would have to test these and see. If you do, please let us know if it works!
TED & Others Who Have Not Had Relief Using only Wild Oregano –
A reader on one of my other blog posts is currently testing this remedy I gave you a while back:
15 ml (1 tbsp.) George’s Aloe Vera Juice
10 ml (2 tsp.) 99% DMSO
5 ml (1 tsp.) potassium iodide (SSKI)
10 ml (2 tsp.) colloidal silver (minimum 22 ppm)
10 ml (2 tsp.) wild oregano oil
WARNING: *Remember there are many cautions with using DMSO, so make sure you get either my Rectal StrictureHeal eBook or my Intestinal StrictureHeal eBook for all the details on usage and handling before attempting this formula.
Anyway, as amazing as it seems, this other reader had a fistula from his intestine that was draining out his belly button and after only a few days of using this formula, here’s the report of his progress (after colonoscopy):
“Other good news, Jon’s stomach and duodenum were completely clear. There was a nodule at the base of the stomach where the doc thinks the fistula track may have run. He could not find a hole anymore, nor could he see a hole in the transverse colon. His belly button is still oozing slightly but we are hopeful that the absence of visible holes on the inside means it is healing as it should from the inside out.”
Isn’t that exciting!
You can read the full account of his progress (posted by his mom Cindy in the Comments section) and also download the StrictureHeal eBook from here:

If anyone else tries this formula for their fistula, please let us know!
Aloha Jini,
Just an update. I have a perianal abscess that developed after either an hemorrhoid/ anal fissure became infected. In total, I’ve had this for only 3 months in total. Its also worth to note that I have a family history of Ulcerative Colitis but (father, brother, grandmother?), but I myself have not been diagnosed or have not presented with any specific symptoms by the age of 26.
Before seeing the doctor, I did my own research to see if there were alternatives and was happy to find out about Oregano oil and Laser light therapy. I began by using a laser pad by LightRelief brand and would sandwich this between my legs over top of the abscess for 15-30mins 3x a day. The light pad also has a heat function and I always use it. Within a few days the abscess reached the surface, expressed itself and started draining. I only used the Light therapy at first because my first go with Oregano stung really bad and I was scared to try it again.
Continuing with only the light treatment, the inflammation mostly had gone away and the wound had healed over. I had absolutely no pain at this point. However, I noticed if I had flatulence, It would fill up the abscess and I could manually depress this back out into my rectum. This would occasionally be painful especially in the granulation tissue around the periphery of the abscess.
The abscess eventually re-infected and opened to drain again (perfectly coinciding with a weakened immune system from the common cold or flu). This time, I immediately grabbed the Oregano and started using it. Using a dropper bottle, I can fit about 0.5-1.0ml of Oregano oil inside. Overnight, the inflammation had greatly reduced! and within only a few days, there is nearly no inflammation! but, the tissue still needs to heal. Flatulence can still enter the (now fistulated?) open track of the abscess, but it directly leaves. I still have 1) drainage 2) a tiny lump just posterior of the opening (I suspect is a pocket of pus) and 3) an open abscess hole, but the drainage is mostly clear and I think this is a good sign that my body is producing its magical “healing matrix.”
I’m confident. It’s healing. Its just slow. very slow. I’m now combining the laser light therapy, heat and the Oregano oil to see if this will help speed up the healing process. I really think the heat had an extra benefit in my particular situation.
Many thanks, and I hope my being thorough is beneficial to you and others!!! I’ll keep you posted. Fingers crossed I have total success with this treatment!
JASON – thanks so much for that thorough account and YES it is much appreciated. Please also see the new formula in comment #25 to see if you’d like to try that. The other person testing it is having remarkable results. Either way, please keep us posted and sorry for the delay in replying – our new site launched (as you can see) and so things were buggy for a while.
IMPORTANT – I have just updated the original blog post above to include the latest info and formulas. So to everyone who has commented, please have a read through!
I posted this before but I guess it didn’t go through. I have been diagnosed with what they think is a rectal abscess. They want to go in and check where I’ll be under anesthesia. Once in the surgeon was going to cut into the abscess to drain. What I don’t get is its already draining. I have been alternating between wild oregeno and Olive leaf and some days it doesn’t drain and other times it does. The doctor said because it’s probably closing up and then it opens up agian. If I just syringe 7:1 olive and increase like you said til 7:7 ratio, will it go away? One surgeon said that the surgery could cause loss of bowel conrol, the other says no not if you don’t cut through muscle. Im so confused on whethering to do the surgery or wait it out with the orgeno oral and syringing. I have had the abscyss for 3mos now. Any advice. By the way, for the probiotics, is it acidophilus that you suggest?
Kathleen – please read through all the Comments above and it will give you a good idea of possible outcomes and what you should do. For probiotics, I recommend Natren brand – powder form if you are having more than 3 bowel movements per day, otherwise the Healthy Trinity capsules are good:

Also, see my comment #125 as that may work better for you too.
I had my perineal abcess surgery 3mnths ago at hydrabad bt after 17th alternate dressing i returnd assam …….it is nt yet being healed just a small dot is left but its painful near dat dot as dre is some pus formation due to improper dressing……m also takng bactrim ds……will it be helpful..helpful in d sense dat wound will healed
Read the stories above from other testers and the other articles and then decide for yourself – listen to your gut!
I have suffered with a fistula for about a year. I had two surgeries to drain the abcess and within a week of each one, the abcess and pain returned. I have tried many medications and antibiotics with minimal results. I was doing research about poultices and decided I wanted something simple and inexpensive. I chose to use a steeped tea bag (black or green) with most of the liquid removed. I positioned the tea bag on the abcess and held it in place and sat on it. Within an hour, the abcess had drained substantially, the pain had disappeared and I had relief from the problem. If you do this once or twice a day, it is far superior to taking a sitz bath. Currently, I am using a feminine hygiene pad on which I place the tea bag. I then paper clip the tea bag to the pad, position it in my underwear and it is held in place securely. I am going to jog around the block which I have been unable to do for a year!
Hi, Len
I read your sucessful story here
Since, I suffered the anal fistula almost two years now i try very hard to get rid of it, i did one surgery but it failed to success
Could you kindly suggest me what you did
The step that you did and where can i find the steeped tea back
Your sincerely
I am in need of some urgent advice.
I have read through all the comments, researched the anal fissure pages on this site, etc, but haven’t been able to find my answer yet. Please tell me if I am missing something. I can’t find another blog post on fissures with a comment section, so I am posting here.
I have had an anal fissure for 2 years. It comes and goes. I tried many natural products and finally found that Nitroglycerin ointment + a salve with comfrey helped it heal, but the last few months this is not enough. I am now bed-ridden, with my butt up on pillows to elevate & relieve the terrible constant pain. I cannot sit or stand. The doctor at the ER said that the fissure is infected & I have a pile/hemorrhoid. But there is no abscess or fistula.
This morning, I saw a colorectal specialist who said my only option is surgery. He says this is because the inner sphincter muscle is in constant chronic spasm. This is why the Nitroglycerin ointment worked for a period of time, because is brings blood flow to the muscle allowing it to relax, then more blood can get to the fissure to heal it on it’s own. The surgery is making a small incision into the inner sphincter which stops the spasm and relaxes it. He said then, the fissure will immediately be able to heal itself, because the spasm has stopped and blood supply can easily enter the muscle again. He would also remove the small pile.
I ordered the FissureHeal, but I am confused if this will work given my spasm. Is it possible to heal the fissure without relaxing the muscle? If you do heal the fissure with FissureHeal, then does the spasm stop on it’s own? I see nothing about spasm’s as it concerns fissures, (as I think this is different than the rectal spasms Jini refers to in her ebook). I know that Jini healed her own long time fissure with just FissureHeal, but I wonder if she also has a spasmodic muscle where the fissure is? I believe her fissure was higher up in the rectum. My fissure is right at the opening of the rectum, along the inner sphincter muscle; it’s this muscle doc says is in spasm.
My surgery is scheduled for next Tues, Jan. 8th. I have 2 days to cancel without paying a large fee. I will listen to my gut of course, but I am not clear whether I can heal this fissure without the surgery, given my sphincter spasm??? Is there an option other than surgery for relieving the sphincter spasm long term?
Any suggestions & information is much appreciated!
Hi Danielle,
I’m afraid that Jini isn’t able to provide a medical opinion or health advice but if you would like a second opinion on your specific situation, Dr. Paul Goldberg shares methods and protocols with Jini and has read all of her books. He is a very rigorous practitioner and like Jini, has healed himself of a serious chronic illness, so he understands firsthand what you might be going through. We can highly recommend him.

Hello,
I have a small abscess and have been treating it with the wild oregano oil. I can see some relief. I have been getting blood out of the abscess hole for the last two days. Is this normal? should I continue with the oil?
Hi Steve,
You may want to stop using the oil until the bleeding subsides.
Kind regards,

Be very careful with oregano oil for abscesses !!!!! I almost passed out from the pain!!! I had to jump in the shower to get it off me. Id dilute it 20:1 to start. It does work i feel a bit better already and it was only on for a couple minutes.
Hi Jini,
Do you know of an alternative doctor in the chicagoland area that is familiar with your products and healing that I can consult with regarding an perianal abscess/fistula. Thanks and kind regards for putting this website together and selling your products. Mo
Dear Jini and Everyone,
I have an anal abscess since June 2011 that was not healed properly. I did not know much about it and just took oral antibiotics from the doctor and it stay dormant since. Inflammation was gone ever since the medication but a bump still persist in the anal region. It does not cause any pain except bleed abit when I had hard stools. No pus ever came out of the abscess until I tried to ripen it via medical creams / heat treatments and got it burst in Jun 2012.
I thought that it would heal after the abscess was burst and drained. However, it came back with a slight bump after recovery. This goes on in a cycle until I tried homeopathy consisting of arnica and silicea. I’ve applied antibiotic ointment on the bump itself after every BM.
I’ve managed to reduced the bump until it was nearly flatten after a month of treatment and thought that it was gone for good and stop applying antibiotic ointment after BM. The bump came back after stopping.
I do know know whether the abscess has indeed recovered or was it a false alarm because I do not have much discharge from the bump even before commencing treatment. It was like a closed up bump that stays there without discharge.
I am going to try out this new treatment but the problem now is I do not know when to stop because I do not know whether has it recover or just another false alarm.
Another thing I would like to know is whether does fistula tract closes naturally when active infection is put under control? Meaning that the main reasons why anal fistula does not heal is due to constant infection from the bacteria. I have read that the human body does not know how to heal fistula tracts unless they are being cut and laid open in surgeries. How true is that? Can anyone help me? Thanks.
In Listen To Your Gut I write about how the body will not wall up or close off infection (heal) because it needs to drain.
In your case, you may want to try the new formula (containing DMSO) since this will also address any possible scar tissue. Since your ‘bump’ may be from remaining infection, or it could be from scar tissue.
Dear Jini,
Thanks for the prompt reply. I do not have much pus coming out from that bump. It is a bump which will swollen up once I encounter hard stools. I believe that the infection did not clear up properly after the round of oral antibiotics given by the doctor back in Jun 2011. I thought that it will go away slowly but it stayed dormant. Same size without pus or pain for 9 months until I decided to do something about it in Apr 2012. After got it burst in June 2012. It kept on getting reinfected and remain the same size as it were from June 2011 – Apr 2012.
Hi Jini, what is DMSO BTW?

Hi Jini,
So I presumed that if I can keep infection off from the fistula / abscess for a long time. Our body will close off / heal up the fistula tract? Thanks again.
This is a very important question and I can’t find an answer anywhere on this board about it. First of all, I was diagnosed with Crohns in the rectum only. I have managed the Crohns with the SCDiet, but did have an abscess and Fistula that healed. But now the after eating chocolate candy the internal abscess is trying to come back. I have been on Flagyl and Cipro but can’t tolerate it anymore. So I was wondering if I can apply the oil of oregano treatment you mention on this site inside my rectum to help heal this small internal abscess opening knowing that there could be possible INFLAMMATION in the rectum as well (because of the Crohns). I mean the abscess came from inflammation from the sugar and though there is no blood or diarreah I am afraid if I place the oil of oregano in the rectum and it’s inflamed it cause feel like salt on an open wound? So scared to try it. Just don’t want to wipe out my good bacteria anymore since I have been on the hard core antibiotics for 14 days and then another 10 days! Help. Thank you.
Hi Roxie,
Using the wild oregano oil in the manner you described shouldn’t have any adverse effects on your gut flora, especially if you have already been on hard core antibiotics for 14 days already. You can always dilute the wild oregano oil down with olive oil and try the very diluted mixture to see if to helps and is tolerable painwise.
Kind regards,
Justin

Oh what an interesting website. Congratulations!
Jini, just wondering what your advice is for a low recto vaginal fistula, due to Crohn’s. I don’t want to put my body through surgery as I already have a sub total colectomy, and another issue is a tracheo-oesophageal fistula, so anesthetic is risky.
Your thoughts on healing both fistula are much appreciated. Thank you!
Maximol – the procedure should be similar to what’s outlined here (and in the other posts I link to). You can get a “dental” attachment for the laser – like a clear syringe so perhaps you can still position it where you need to.
Hi Jini
I have just read about the wild oregano syringing protocol.I have had my fistula noow for about 11 years, as a result of Crohns disease, i had my colon removed and have been trying to get recoonected until that time i have a bag,I have tried oral antibiotics inncluding syring the fistula with antibiotics but to no avail, I am seeing a gastro enterologist and I tried the very expensive intravenous treatment which did not help and I have now decided to try alternative treatments in this regard could you possibly advise me and do you know of any reputable Homoepath doctores or such in Johannesburg South Africa
Kind Regards

Hi Jini,
My daughter has been on the remission diet for 4 weeks following the IBD and LTYG books and it has kept her off steroids and out of the hospital we are sure! However she has had a recurrence of c-diff, bummer. Also she just had a sigmoid ultrasound (because she had fevers for over 2 weeks) which showed a walled-off abcess. The doc would not drain it because we had not started the antibiotics we were given a week before, hoping oregano oil would do it.
We did start the antibiotics, fidixomycin for c-diff and levofloxacin for the abscess (we are doing lots of Natren probiotics). We stopped the oral oregano oil for now for the liver’s sake (she is on another med for multiple sclerosis) but will go back to it after one of the antibiotics is done. But we are doing Formula A with DMSO that I make into a suppository with cocoa butter (melt as per your post but I roll it in parchment paper and freeze it ).
My question is, based on the rectal healing book, we should only do the DMSO formula once a day correct? Then do you recommend diluted oregano oil more times a day rectally to help heal the abscess? (I’ve also made those into suppositories with organic olive oil and organic coconut oil)
Finally another really ODD thing happened. In the past week she has found hard pea size or bigger grey lumps coming out with the standard diarrhea (it is easy to see in the diaper). One came out that was shaped like a round nosed bullet a little wider than a pencil! The sigmoid doctor had said she saw spots that she thought were fistula’s forming. She also said the abscess could be full of liquid or hard necrotic tissue. My thought is that her gut is healing and this is hard necrotic tissue coming to the surface of the gut and being expelled. My daughter also wondered if it was the powder in the shake coming together. But the one was shaped like a fistula beginning. Have you ever heard of this? What do you think?
KAREN – no, I have never heard of what you’re describing. Only way would be to save them and take them into your doc for perusal.
Yes, you can do the oregano oil rectally as well, up to once every 2 hours if you like and if it doesn’t irritate things too much.
Since she is on other drugs, I would let your doctor know what you are doing as there may be interactions we don’t know about.
Karen, My husband has had experiences where, when he did different detox diets, he would pass gall stones…sounds a lot like what you describe.
hi,
i have suffered 4 occurrence of anal abscess ( 2 perianal, 1 sub-mucosal and 1 fissure) all in the same location. I had the abscess drained by surgeon each time . Each time , the abscess would completely heal within 3-4 days of surgery with anit-biotics. Recently MRI was done and there was no indication of Fistula. I have no visible indication and the lump can only be located internally by the surgeon . Indication of an abscess with a constipation and increasing pain in the anal region. I am having pain and constipation today, I fear it is going end with a abscess.. I have lost hope in the past procedures and I want try out naturopathy . Will Organo oil help to prevent it ? Where can i find it in India ?

I am highly allergic to oregano. It has caused me numerous severe flare ups. Do you think oregano oil would have the same effect on me taken orally? I’m afraid to try…
Hi Tom,
If you are allergic to oregano then it’s highly unlikely that wild oregano oil would work for you. A workable alternative for people who cannot use wild oregano oil is olive leaf extract so you may want to consider trying it out instead. Here’s a link to more information about the product:

Hello,
I am currently starting the formula A treatment for a perianal fistula and abcesses. Question : Does it matter if the oil and the rest of the ingredients don’t blend together? Should it be homogeneous?
Thanks
Hi Pascal,
The mixture doesn’t need to be completely homogeneous and should produce the desired effect as long as it has been mixed as thoroughly as possible.

I had a PERIRECTAL abscess that was drained twice already. The doctor said I have a fistula and need to undergo another surgery. I have pain when there is a build up of pus, but is relieved when I have a drainage on the incision site. My problem the incision site is already closing and I am experiencing pain due to pus build up. Can I use the oregano oil for PERI RECTAL abscess? I want the fistula to heal so no more drainage but it has to heal from the inside out. The doctor said it is way up there in the tissue compared to a peri anal abscess which is closer to the skin. Any suggestion how I should do it?

Hi Jen,
I am using the option 2 protocol with DSMO, silver, iodine, aloe. I mised them up and put in glass bottle. How long can it be stored while using?
Thanks,
Lolo
Hi Lolo,
The ingredients should be fine to store for a few days; potency shouldn’t degrade much over the course of 24 hours. You can try syringing it in both places and see which way works better. We’d love to hear how it goes!
Kind regards,
Justin

The reason I ask is because the first time I used it (for my fistula) I did it up my rectum and it came out right away through the fistula hole. I know it travels fast from reading your protocol. Ever since, it has been different, so I thought maybe the DSMO doesnt keep it’s strength but it was only one day later. When should I mix up a new batch? I also do not know if I can syringe it up fistula because the syringe has a big opening. Is it just as productive doing it in the anus?
Hi Jini,
Have you ever heard of anyone having an allergic reaction to the DMSO formula A? I’m having a strange allergic reaction (itchy hands and butt! Mucus in stool!) which I’m guessing is due to a food I was recently recommended and tried, but I thought I’d check with you about other people’s experience of Formula A just to be sure and out of curiosity. It’s such a weird reaction.
Sincerely,
Garth
Hi Garth,
No, I’m afraid we haven’t had any reports of any itching as a result of using that formula.
Kind regards,
Justin
Customer Care
Garth, you may be sensitive to the ingredients, or even allergic. You can try applying fresh aloe or a very pure aloe vera gel and see if that takes care of it. If not, then please listen to your intuition and/or check with your naturopathic doctor whether to continue, or not.
Hi Jini,
Thanks for your suggestions. I doubt that the itchiness is caused by the DMSO formula. I tested it carefully when I started, the reactions are generally away from where I apply it,and the reaction seems to be slowly subsiding after cutting out the suspicious food.
What have you heard regarding the length of time to heal up a fistula after starting the DMSO/infrared routine? What have people who have successfully used this protocol found?
You’ll have to read through the comments to see people’s experience – but for sure it will depend on length of time you’ve had the fistula, drug use (some of which may cause or exacerbate fistulas), diet, lifestyle, environment and emotional factors.
Just thought I’d post an update. I finally figured out (with the help of my naturopath) what the itchiness was about. It was a dieoff reaction. Looks like I unwittingly overloaded my liver/kidneys while trying to heal up my fistula. So I’m backing off on the DMSO routine for a while and focusing on supporting elimination channels. I’m going to continue with the infrared and the psycho-emotional healing routines that I do while I wait for my body toxicity to lower. Sometimes I feel like I’m juggling 5 balls as I work on healing myself 🙂 It’s never the straight path I was imagining. Thanks for your help Jini. I’ll keep you posted on how it goes.
Thanks a lot for the update, Garth. We wish you all the best in your ongoing efforts!

My daughter now has an abscess with “pig tail” drain tube placed. The dr said the large intestine, cecum and ascending, has become perforated with small abscesses as well as this large one. She is on iv antibiotics because the infection was severe but fevers didn’t stop until they cultured out candida and began strong antifungal. Of course the dr says small chance it will heal and the longer tube is left in more chance of it becoming a fistula that won’t heal. Says resection of colon needed.
She has been on absorb plus only (again) while in hospital. A few months ago she did oral stricture heal formula without oregano, wondering if right ab pain was stricture but evidently was flare. So one question is can you do dmso stricture heal formula into an abscess at this location and will it help opening from colon to heal and seal? Also does this formula taken orally help inflammation in colon to heal or is it only for scar tissue?
We want to delay surgery and work on emotional issues with emdr therapy and go back on ibd remission diet though so hard not eating. Any other ideas and input regarding present abscess and condition of colon? Still has rectal inflammation.
Hi Karen,
Jini’s goal with the StrictureHeal protocol as a whole is to address the root cause (scar tissue) and the symptom (inflamation) at the same time. The DMSO and wild oregano oil in the oral protocol both have anti-inflammatory properties, as does the castor oil if you do a topical pack. I’m afraid we can’t advise you regarding the application of the protocol with your daughter’s specific condition but we have received good feedback about the protocol. You may also want to consider having your daughter try MucosaHeal if she has extensive inflammation. If you aren’t familiar with the product, you can read more details about it here:

As for your question about the silver, Jini doesn’t recommend substituting other products with her protocols as all testing is done with specific products and formulas. However, if your experimentation has led to more favorable results, that supersedes everything else for your unique situation (listen to your gut!). We carry the several products from WHM and Jini has done a teleseminar interview with the founder of that company (not to mention, she has used each one of the WHM products we carry extensively) so, if you need to make a substitution of your own, WHM is probably one of the safer ways to go.

Ialso wanted to ask if the nano silver from WHM is interchangeable with the recommended brand colloidal silver. Several weeks after starting a few tablespoons of nano silver daily my daughter’s diarrhea of 9 months stopped. Usually I also used it in the stricture formula. I also realized the abscesses started when we stopped the stricture heal formula.
Karen – you also seem to have a rather complex case there with your daughter, so I would really encourage you to consult with Dr. Paul Goldberg for more info on possible complications or contraindications using the StrictureHeal ingredients:
https://blog.listentoyourgut.com/patient-balloons-to-315-lbs-from-steroids/
Please remember that these protocols are experimental and we also cannot possibly account for all the interactions in a complex case like your daughters. So you really would be best to get professional advice, and/or be REALLY tuned to both her and your gut wisdom.
Aloha Jini/Justin,
Has anyone reported results, good or bad, from injecting either Formula A or B (aloe, DMSO, SSKI, silver, WOO) vs syringing it into the opening of a incised abscess? Just had it incised yesterday after it built up for about 3 weeks. I tried topical application (minus the SSKI which I’ve misplaced) for about the last week combined with Infrared Light Therapy (Lumen) but not the recommended frequency. This reduced it some but not enough. That and I started with the stronger Formula B and it was apparently too strong for my skin which got very red and sore. I have been doing 10 drops of the North American Herb & Spice Super Strength (3x potency) each morning as a maintenance due to still dealing with a fistula on the other side of my rectum. As of yesterday I stepped that up to 10 drops in the morning and 5 drops 2 -3x/daily.
Right now the incision is so painful I can’t imagine syringing anything through it. The surgeon said they used to do drain tubes many years ago but don’t any more. He packed it with antibiotic medicated gauze and wants me to come back on day 2 to repack it. Not looking forward to that at all. He prescribed and I’m taking 5 days of Bactrim 800mg. I haven’t applied the solution topically for about 48 hours and I’ve done several hours of IRLT so my skin around the incision is looking and feeling better, not perfect but better.
I think I could inject the solution near the incision in hopes of hitting the rather large pocket of the abscess but thought it best to ask first. I searched the comments for “inject” but the two instances didn’t apply to my question. My apologies if this has already been asked/answered.
Robert
Very good questions Robert! And without seeing, palpating etc. I couldn’t even guess. You will have to follow your own gut and experiment as you feel.
But be sure to start with the mildest solution and least invasive to see how skin and area respond first.
Also, I find the NAHS super strength too strong for certain uses, so be alert for that too. It may be just fine for you, or not.
Let us know what you try and how it works, or doesn’t…
Have you taken any precription drugs in the last 12 months other than Bactrim?
I did hear from one woman who used Formula A on a fistula that exited near the belly button. It had almost healed and then a colonoscopy and other factors started a flare again.
Hi there,
I have an periannal abscess that was operated on and drained over 3 months ago. It still is weeping and very sore and blistered. I have been taking chinese herbs that have francinsense and myrrh in. I have also been taking probiotics and olive leaf. I have been using high strength 10+ manuka honey topically which has improved it. It is still very sore and weeping. I am drinking clay and also washing and soaking with epsom and pink himalayan salt…….needless to say it is still leaking.
Like all the others I am desperate to resolve this as I would like to have a child put feel that it would be silly to be preganat and unwell with this abscess! I willntry the oregano oil, fingers, toes, arms and legs crossed it works!!
To answer the question about healing scar tissue, there is a fantastic enzyme called serrapeptase that is used widely for cardiovasicular support, also good for fibroids, endometriosis. It breaks down scar tissue and dissolves it really effectively.
I will buy oregano oil tomorrow and start it promptly….otherwise the next thing will be grinding up fresh turmeric root and using it topically. Reports say it works well but its a sod and stains everything yellow. Will keep you posted!
Thanks so much for the information!!!
Hi Clare,
Thanks for taking the time to share your story. We look forward to hearing about how it works out for you and wish you all the best on your healing journey! If you have any questions about any of Jini’s protocols along the way, feel free to reply here or e-mail me at service@listentoyourgut.com.

P.S. Just in case you haven’t seen it, you may want to visit Jini’s symptom page for anal fistulas and abscesses at the link below. There’s a download link at that page to a PDF where Jini summarizes her treatment suggestions in a neat little document. The download is right at the top of the page under where it says “What is an Anal Fistula”:
http://www.listentoyourgut.com/symptoms/19/fistula-anal.html
Hi Jini,
I hope things are well for you. I have tried your wild oregano protocol in the past but unfortunately it didn’t work for me. I had a very tough time keeping the solution from leaking out of the fistula which I am sure prevented me from benefiting from the full effect of the wild oregano. But I have been reading about your Fissure Heal product and other comfrey suppository based treatments. It seems that some people may have used comfrey to heal the internal opening which would eventually allow the infection to heal and the fistula to close. Have you heard of anyone using this approach with success? My fistula is still draining but from what my doctor has told me, the internal opening is only a couple of inches past my anal canal. So I am wondering if using comfrey, Fissure Heal or other products as a suppository or enema to help heal/close the internal opening is an option for me.
Any insight or feedback that you can provide as to what you have heard has worked for others in the past would be greatly appreciated.
Kind regards,
DT
Hi DT,
It’s possible that the comfrey could have a beneficial effect as it is the fastest wound healer Jini has ever come across. The FissureHeal suppositories are quite long so you can break them into pieces that are the perfect length for your particular situation (and probably get 2-3 uses out of each of the 12 suppositories in each package). If you try it out, we’d love to hear how it works out for you.
Kind regards,
Justin
Customer Care
DT – as Justin pointed out, comfrey is an amazing tissue healer HOWEVER, you do NOT want to heal a fistula that is still draining because the drainage signifies there is still infection present. So rather than focusing on healing the opening, you need to focus on eradicating the infection – otherwise, it will just find somewhere else to drain.
Thank you Jini and Justin for the feedback. My fistula has an internal opening (which I am told is only an inch or two into the anal canal) and an external opening ( groin/lower scrotal area). It is draining daily through the external opening. My thought process is to use comfrey suppositories to heal the internal opening and hopefully allowing it to continue to drain ecpxternally while healing from the inside out. I didn’t realize that if the internal opening closed that it would just find another internal outlet. I have surgery scheduled this month to have a seton put in and clean out the abscess portion of the fistula near the external opening. I am told that after that I will keep the seton in for 6 weeks and then have a 2nd surgery to repair the rest of the fistula. I have been eating clean/ organic for quite some time, tried the oregano injections, drink and eat plenty of tumeric, fooled with the scd diet for a while and none of it seems to be working. So I finally scheduled the 1st part of the surgery for later this month. I made my own comfrey suppositories recently and have been using them for the last week or so. I thought that using fissure heal might be easier for me and possibly more beneficial. But if sounds like you are suggesting to let the infection clear before trying to heal the internal opening. I am just not sure how the infection would or could clear while there is still an internal opening (given the cleanliness issue).
Thanks,
Dave
Hi Dave,
If you see positive results doing what you’re doing then it might be good to continue but, as Jini mentioned, you might have limited success with the comfrey until the draining stops and could be wasting your money. Wild oregano oil is usually what we might suggest but, if that isn’t working out for you, you may want to check out olive leaf extract as it’s a milder alternative which works better for some people (it’s what Jini recommends for people who can’t tolerate wild oregano):

Dave,
Today you commented that there is a doctor in Florida who uses Neolaser to treat fistulas. What is the name of that clinic?
I am currently using FissureHeal and feel like there is improvement but I would like to stay aware of other options.
Thanks
DAVE – the other thing that you need to keep in mind is that when fistulas (and other wounds) heal, they heal from the inside out. So whichever way you look at it, until the infection is resolved, any attempts at wound-healing will have limited success. I suggest you listen to my teleseminar with Dr. Goldberg on Why Patients Don’t Heal as it may give you some ideas, or perhaps you want to consult with him:

So grateful for this site. i didn’t know what I had – I thought it was some kind of crazy hemorrhoid. I have used oils before and loved them and have had good success. I put oregano oil and grape/seed oil (you can use any other oil – extra virgin olive oil) mixed at 50/50 directly on the abscess. Yes, it stung!! for about ten minutes. I might dilute a little less but the result was great. Overnight it shrunk to half the size. I have continued for the next day (putting it on 5 times) and it is down even more to like 1/4 of what it was. I have been doing epsom salt baths too. Also, I have been taking oregano orally in a capsule – mixed with a base oil again. So, I think the combination is wiping it out. Oregano is like an antibiotic. I have used it that way before. I really can’t believe it and am so happy that I don’t have to go for surgery! Also, be careful to just get the oil on the abscess so it doesn’t sting the surrounding area. Thanks for all the comments and help! Just finding out what it was – was a relief.
Hi Lyn,
Thanks so much for taking the time to share your thoughts. We’re glad to hear that you’re experiencing some good results!

Just one more thought. I had some pain from being burned by the oregano oil. Looking back, I think I would try an antibiotic ointment on the abscess and then take the oregano orally.
Hi Jini,
I hope things are well! As a follow up to my previous posts, I ended up having a seton put in about a month and a half ago. Prior to the seton, I had a lot of difficulty with stinging/burning when syringing the fistula opening with oregano oil (even at extremely low oregano to carrier oil ratios). Do you think taking a bath with oregano oil is an effective alternative? I use about 4-7 drops in a bath tub with about 6 inches of water. It certainly stings at first but not for long. My only concern is whether enough oregano oil would get into the fistula this way. I would imagine most of the oil tends to stay towards the top of the bath water.
Have you heard any success stories with oregano oil sitz baths as opposed to syringing? Any feedback you can provide is appreciated as always! I eat mostly organic and have cut down on my sugar and alcohol intake dramatically so I feel as though I am on the right path.
By the way, the colorectal surgeon would like me to have a LIFT procedure to repair the fistula as it crosses both the internal and external sphincter muscles. Good times!
Kind regards,
Dave
Hi Dave – I don’t think a wild oregano sitz bath would be potent enough to have much effect… You could try syringing alternate anti-microbial substances though. You could try Formula A in the post:
Formula A
15 ml (1 tbsp.) George’s Aloe Vera Juice
10 ml (2 tsp.) 99% DMSO
5 ml (1 tsp.) potassium iodide (SSKI)
10 ml (2 tsp.) colloidal silver (minimum 22 ppm)
10 ml (2 tsp.) wild oregano oil
BUT instead of the wild oregano, use either grapefruit seed extract, or more colloidal silver, or olive leaf extract – ask your body which one it would prefer. And then syringe into the seton. You could also omit the DMSO if you don’t feel comfortable with it.
Let us know if you find an alternate that works!
Hi Jini,
I have suspected Crohn’s and my symptoms appeared as 2 months of diarrhea. The symptoms have been clear for the last 5 weeks but ai believe I now have a fistula develop after a blood spot after I wiped my bum a few weeks ago. A shirt share sting when I passed stool followed.
Initially I used Sudocream ointment as I thought it was just a spot, but now I’m worried. It looks like I have 2 anus openings but at the same time it’s very difficult to see on your own (I couldn’t show it to anyone except my GI who I don’t see until 6th June)
I have some Oil of Oregano and want to start the protocol, but due to being at work, I can think how I can syringe the mixture every two hours and keep it there. Is there anyway to make some kind of paste that I could just push into the openings. It would be so much easier for those of us who are at work.
I was thinking maybe a sea salt Oil of Oregano & Manuka honey paste, maybe even some Curcumin. I’m not sure of the interactions of all these things so would really appreciate your expertise.
If the oregano protocol doesn’t work I would try the supercharged treatment.
Thanks so much
Hi Jess, I like your idea for the sea salt Oil of Oregano & Manuka honey paste, and yes I would add the Curcumin! Please let us know how it works… You could also mix in some clay if you need to firm it up more and the clay also helps draw out infection.
Jini! Thank you so much. I am a 42 year old man who got my first anal abscess in 2007. Thought it was a hemorrhoid at first, but ended up barely being able to walk into the colorectal surgeons office, I was in so much pain, before she lanced it (the most painful experience of my life) and I was instantly relieved, and hundreds of dollars poorer. In Jan of 2014, I ate some jalepeno chicken and ended up with another one. I couldn’t remember if it was in the same location, but after a couple of weeks of it getting bigger and bigger, I had to get it lanced. Ouch! So I end up eating jalepeno chicken again in March (idiotic, right? I love spicy food) and I end up with another one, this time on the other side of my anus. Dr lances it it and tells me to stay away from the jalepenos. So this past weekend, I ended up eating a few homemade spicy pickles, and, oh no, it came back in the same spot. Now I’m freaking out, this is not cool, and no way to live, so I started the search for home remedies yesterday morning, found this blog, read all the comments, was skeptical, especially with people calling you a snake oil salesperson, but I went out and got some oregano oil and pills, sorry for not buying from you, I was desperate, and I tried the 7:1 ratio, and it didn’t sting too bad. And shot a little up my butt with a syringe. And popped a pill, and ended up taking four total yesterday. And about an hour later said screw it, and put it on undiluted, and it stung, but nothing like getting lanced. And I noticed that the skin seemed thinner, almost like a balloon, like I could just poke a pin in it. Now that reminds me, before my last surgery, I tried to operate on myself. I tried popping it with a pin, and even got the mirror and razor blade out and tried to slice it, who has hundreds of dollars to blow on this anyway, even tried to get my wife to do it, but I totally chickened out like the mess of the man I was. But here is the good news. I put it on directly about 5 times yesterday, and then once this morning. I have my coffee and go to sit on the throne as I routinely do, do my business, wipe, and then reach down to feel the abscess, feel something sticky, lift up my finger, and Oh My God, is that puss? Did this thing just pop? I stand up, and I have no pain. I go get the flashlight, and the mirror, and sure enough, their is white puss everywhere. This is a miracle. I expressed it as much as I could, called my wife, Hallelujah, showered and put some more on it. Apparently, this stuff weakens the skin, or brings the puss closer to the skin, or something, I don’t know, I don’t care, it is amazing. My only concern now is that I have a fistula since it reoccurred in the same spot, but I’m confident that this stuff is going to get up in there, and kill the junk, and allow it to heal, just like many others have commented. Thank you again so much. Naysayers are gonna hate, but it really worked for me. Of course, I did say a prayer yesterday too, and I’m sure that helped, but this is some powerful stuff. Thank you Jini!
Hi A.R.,
Thanks so much for taking the time to share your story – it’s great to hear that the wild oregano oil worked so well for you! Just in case you haven’t seen them, Jini has two other protocols for healing anal fistulas at the link below:

As a follow up, over a week later, the abscess is completely gone. One day of using oregano oil brought it to the surface, enabling it to pop on it’s own. Saving money, pain, and the embarrassment of having my full moon on display in the Dr’s office. Oregano oil is truly a wonder drug. I’ve also discovered it works great on hives, and on acne. I have two teenagers and this stuff shrinks pimples overnight. And mosquitos can’t stand it, it’s a natural insect repellant. It kind of stinks, you will definitely smell like Italian food, but it’s no worse than Off. Thanks again Justin and Jini. When we need a refill we will buy from you!
Hi A.R.,

Just started using this for a perianal anscess which I had 3 years ago and left an open pit (don’t think it’s a fistula). Recently it started to flare up and was infected. A week of antibiotics and no improvement. Rather than go under the scalpel (and since it’s not too acute right now) I’ve opted for the natural healing route. Wasn’t easy to get some of the ingredients in the UK (and still awaiting DMSO which is somewhere in transit from USA) so I’ve had to start without the DMSO. I’m 24 hours in and already the infection is smaller…though I’m a bit conscious that I smell like a pizza 😉
Hi Lou,
Thanks so much for taking the time to share your experience so far. Jini would love to hear how it all works out for you! If you ordered the DMSO from Jini’s shoppe please don’t hesitate to email us at service@listentoyourgut.com or call 888-866-7745 if you’re not sure about the status of your package.

Dear Jini,
I was diagnoticated with a perianal abcess and the doctors told me that the surgery is the only solution. But i can’t make It because i have a 6 mnths baby and i’m breastfeeding her.i found your blog today and i hope that you will help me telling me what should i do.
Hi Theo,
I’m afraid that we’re unable to give you medical advice as we’re not qualified to do so but Jini does not recommend using her syringing protocols if you are breastfeeding. You may want to try the infrared laser method mentioned in the post above. For more information about that, check out the link below:

Hi,
I’m just wondering if anyone has substituted Potassium Iodide crystals (from the pharmacy) dissolved in distilled water (to saturation) for the Tri-Quench SSKI? It seems to me that they are roughly the same (Tri-Quench has saffron extract added but the concentration of KI seems similar at room temperature). The cost is quite a bit less (about a third).
Hi Garth,
We haven’t heard of anyone doing that but your logic seems to be sound. If you decide to try that out we’d love to hear how it works out!

Hi Jini, Justin and all readers! I am very interested in hearing from fistula/past fistula sufferers that have had luck with this protocol. An abscess is one thing to heal with oregano oil (or this protocol) but a fully formed fistula is much more difficult to heal. I am curious as I tried the protocol initially without success. Although, it was before a seton was placed and I also may not have given it enough time which I fully understand may have impacted my chances of recovery. I recently had a LIFT surgical procedure that unfortunately failed as well. I do believe that it reoccurred at a smaller scale but before I try a second surgery I may give this protocol another shot. The one concern I have is that if there is an internal open in the anal canal or intestine that leads to the fistula tract, a large part of the constant infection is due to fecal matter passing into the fistula. Although the oregano oil may kill the infection, will it prevent re-infection and promote full recovery? I welcome all opinions but I would love and appreciate hearing from users with matured fistula tracts that have had success or failure with this protocol. Thanks to all!
Hi David,
We’ve received a large amount of positive feedback about this protocol but success definitely depends on the specific situation and persistence. Wild oregano oil is a powerful, natural antibiotic so it will combat infection but it won’t assist with re-infection unless you continue to apply it until the abscess or fistula is fully healed.
Kind regards,
Justin

Thanks Justin. Per your response above, that’s great news that you have a large amount of positive feedback on this protocol. Can you please point me to some of the links where there are people providing feedback that this protocol healed their fistulas? It would be very helpful to read their comments and any details they provided about their usage and experience. I did a fair amount of searching on Jini’s blogs and unfortunately can’t seem to find any. I found a few stating that it cleared an abscess overnight or in a short time but that obviously is a completely different situation and prognosis than a fistula. Thanks for your help!
Did you ever get a response to this? I have yet to find a person here that has commented that they have healed a fistula and had it stayed healed long term. I would love to read those kinds of anecdotes as the information would be seriously helpful.
I’ve been using/injecting full strength oil of oregano on a fistula tract and so far no new flair ups.
I don’t use the brand you recommend but this stuff is powerful. I had been using it before the abscess/fistula orally to fend off colds and flues for years and it has been a life saver.
I eventually switched to their “super strength” formula and continue to use it. There are no adverse effects. No burning (if it is all deposited inside) but it will wake you up if it drips into the anus. But, even then it never causes visible burns and the sensation goes away within 5 minutes.
I’ve had some nasty bouts of constipation because of a few kidney stones I’m also dealing with and still no flair ups.
I’ve had this fistula seemingly heal a few times before (before I started injecting O of O.)…for up to 6 months only to have it return after a bout of constipation. I no longer have faith that it will completely heal and never return but I’m still opting for this method because I’m not up for fistula surgery. The old saying “when you find yourself in a hole, stop digging” never seemed more apt. Ask a surgeon how to deal with a fistula and they whip out their scalpel. No thanks.
So, long story short, I am doing well injecting the O of O into the fistula with good results. I’m just not sure when…if ever I should stop using it. The way i see it, as long as that drain hole is still opened, I’m going to keep sending O of O into it.
Best of luck to all.
What a pain in the…
Sounds like a good plan Jim! And if you find you need something stronger, then you might want to test one of the new formulas. Either way, please let us know how it goes.
Paul in 2008 may have a point, because I have developed a perianal abscess recently after I started working in a pork slaughter house. It was common that numerous of them had abscesses. I feel I have occurred an infection from this and my rectum is where it decided to build up. Does this sound probable? I have to yet seemed medical attention. It been about 17 days since noticed it. But swelling and pain has gone down a lot. I have taking hot baths everyday. The skin is still enclosed I’m wondering if it will break the surface and drain itself then I can follow the oregano oil procedure.
LUCA – you can apply the wild oregano solution directly to the swollen site – it will penetrate and sometimes even draws out the infection/pus. In that case, just keep wiping it clean and re-apply more wild oregano until it has drained.
My daughter got a colostomy done about one year ago. Since than things have gone a lot worse for her, shes been sick with Crohns for over 10 years shes only 33 years old and shes so discouraged as things are just going from bad to worse.
she just had the resulf of a MRI and it shows fistulas on the lower colon and rectal area and an abscess.
Is there hope by following your protocol?
thank you

How exactly do you make up the oregano oil solution, store it etc.?
Hi Anthony,
We recommend using a dark glass bottle with a dropper if you are planning on diluting wild oregano with organic olive oil. You can then store it at room temperature.

Hello again,
Just wanted to report back on progress with perianal abscess and fistula using Oil of Oregano.
The FULL STRENGTH (why tinker around diluting it?) Oil of Oregano has completely eliminated these issues for me. That along with a triple antibiotic ointment in the rectum to help heal that part. It’s been over three months now. Not the slightest pain or discomfort, BM’s are full and normal (not flat or pencil skinny that I experienced at the height of this condition) No lumps, bumps or discharge. That ended about three days into injecting full strength O of O into the fistula.
Injecting full strength Oil of Oregano into the fistula tract is THE way to go. The ONLY way to go in my opinion. You’ve got a mighty infection back there and it takes a good kick in IT’S butt to get rid of it. And I’ve enjoyed turning the tables on that thing!!! 🙂 I’m in charge now! After a year and a half of repeated abscesses, emergency room visits and countless dreadful days it’s liberating to know that I now have the upper hand…and so can you.
Jini is spot on. And I certainly appreciate this website as it gave me the confirmation I was looking for to try this method. (I had thought about it for awhile but was a bit afraid to try it)
Please go with full strength. It won’t hurt you. It doesn’t even burn unless it drips into the anus and even that isn’t anywhere near as bad as what you’ve already had to deal with. (sure beats surgery and the misery that ensues) It will only destroy the bacteria/infection…not you.
As long as you can access the fistula opening (usually the drain hole they made to drain the abscess) you’ve found your way out of this mess.
I wish everyone the best. I came close to losing it with this condition as I’m sure you can all relate. I only wish to help others find their way out of this. And, this is the way. Before I tried this method I had given up hope that I would ever get out from under it. Not anymore!
Best wishes,
Jim
Hi Jim, Congratulations!! And just to clarify for everybody here – when you say you used Full Strength wild oregano oil… you are NOT talking about ESSENTIAL oil correct? You are talking about the wild oregano oil from companies like NAHS or Joy Of The Mountanins (commercial wild oregano). And can you tell us which brand you used?
Hi Jini!
Yes, I am using Wild Oil of Oregano.
I believe the company name is North American Herb & Spice. Mediterranean Source Wild Handpicked P73.
It has a blue and yellow label and comes in a small brown bottle with a dropper.
One of the great things about O of O is bacteria does not become immune to it like it does with pharmaceutical antibiotics. So it never becomes useless. It always destroys bacteria no matter how many times one may need it for any number of reasons/ conditions.
Thanks again Jini for making this website available to all. It’s people like you who really make a difference. Again, I was considering such a method but it wasn’t until I found your site that I worked up the nerve to give it a go. And it was full strength for me from the get-go. You have to attack this stuff aggressively if you want real results. Be not afraid! It WORKS!
Best wishes to all,
Jim

Thanks again for sharing!
Hi Jini. I have suffered from an anal fistula for 2+ years. I had a seton placed and then a follow up LIFT surgery which failed. I am now seeing an MD who has a clinic that specializes in naturopathic and holistic medicine. I have tried the WOO protocol previously but unsuccessfully. I admit that I may not have given it my all. The MD I am seeing now feels that if I don’t close the internal hole first then bowel movements will continuously keep it infected. He agrees that I should be injecting it with either silver or WOO and should keep the external hole open to let it drain while the inside heals and the infection clears up. What are your thought about doing the WOO protocol in conjunction with the Fissure Heal suppositories? It seems as though the WOO would battle the infection while the comfrey in the Fissure Heal suppositories would help to close the internal hole in turn keeping fecal matter from entering the fistula. Have you heard of anyone trying this approach? I would love your thoughts. Thanks!
Hi Dave,
If the fistula is draining, that generally means an infection is still present and Jini recommends focusing on eradicating the infection first. So, you’ll probably want to wait until the draining is done before using the FissureHeal because you certainly don’t want to close the hole until the infection is gone. We’d love to hear how it works out for you and if you have any additional questions you can post here or reach us via email (service@listentoyourgut.com), phone (888-866-7745), or the live chat in the blue box on the bottom right of your screen.
Kind regards,
Justin
Thanks Justin. It is still draining but that is why the doctor wants to close the internal hole and leave the external open to drain. Closing the external hole first would be problematic and more than likely things would start to abscess again. However, he believes the internal hole allows in fecal matter constantly which keeps the infection ongoing. Close that off, leave the external open to drain and continue irrigating through the external hole and he believes it will be on the path to healing. Hopefully the comfrey in the FissureHeal will get that internal hole closed. I’ll let you know how it goes. I really need to get this thing healed to save my sanity. – Dave
Dave,
If you haven’t yet, try using a triple antibiotic ointment for the inside and continue to inject O of O into the drain hole/fistula tract. If you apply the triple antibiotic ointment into the inside (butt) after cleaning/BM’s (always…no exceptions) the ointment will provide a barrier against fecal matter entering that hole and the O of O injected will keep killing off any infection. Basically attacking it from both ends/inside and out.
I can expound on that if you like. Also, for some reason Walgreens triple antibiotic seems to work best. I tried to get my doc to give a prescription strength antibiotic for up the butt…but she wouldn’t do it. Walgreens triple antibiotic works better than the others I tried. No side effects. Just helps it heal and keep a barrier between fecal matter and the hole.
Best Wishes,
Jim
Jim,
Thank you for the advice. I have been using triple antibiotic ointment but not religiously. My internal fistula opening is a little higher than usual I was told (above the dentate line) so I questioned if I was reaching it with the ointment. I will be sure to grab the walgreen’s brand and do a better job at it. I had tried ozonated olive oil suppositories as well but they didn’t seem to work. Here’s to hoping for better luck this round.
May I ask how many times a day you were using the WOO and how long it took for it to close/ heal up? I was also told that my fistula tract is longer than typical so it may be a little more stubborn unfortunately.
I hope you are still doing well.
Dave
Sure Dave,
I started doing the WOO on October 16th, 2014 just after coming home from a very disappointing outpatient investigation back there. (I had been told prior to this there was no fistula..but now there was?)
Anyway, I immediately started doing it 3 times a day after finding Jini’s site here…for about 2 weeks. After that, i cut it down to 2 times for a few days then once a day, then once every couple days. You can tell and you’ll know when to cut back.
I guess I was “lucky”…mine is (was) between the inner and outer sphincter which can be accessed with ease with a rubber glove.
But, your case is not unusual or untreatable.
Simply do this: when you get the tube of triple antibiotic from Walgreens, get one of those long applicators from a Preperation-H package and screw it onto the tube of triple antibiotic. The threads won’t match up so you’ll have to use force to screw it on but you’ll do it. I would think that should reach the opening of the fistula inside. If not, I am certain a longer applicator can be found to do the job. Maybe ask your doctor if he/she can tell you how far up there it is if you don’t already know.
Also, like you, I had dealt with this issue for about a year and a half and was truly at my wits end. (you’re NOT kidding about keeping your sanity thru all of this! It’s a living nightmare) and I wasn’t about to play around with a few drops or diluting the O of O. I used about 1 ML of O of O for the first couple weeks with each injection. That’s the first measuring line on the plastic syringe I use.
Now, that’s a heck of a lot more than a few drops. But don’t be shy about it. It won’t hurt you. quite the contrary.
I don’t know if you are married or have a partner that can inject it for you. Thank God I have a great wife that was and is willing to do that task for me. (i tried to do it myself but with little success)
That infection had a lot of time to multiply inside. I’m sure there are pockets of puss in the tissue of the buttocks and it releases along with the new bacteria being introduced by bowel movements past the hole inside. As you said, that bacteria from feces keeps creeping into the fistula tract giving renewed life to the infection.
So to give yourself the best fighting chance, don’t spare the oil of oregano and get that triple antibiotic up in there to guard/protect the hole inside. You might even be able to reach it with a gloved middle finger. As you stated, keeping that hole plugged is essential to keeping the infection from returning.
If you inject 1 ml of O of O into the tract, at the VERY LEAST it should keep it from abscessing again. (mine used to abscess regularly. I could almost set my watch to it. Three weeks after the abscess would erupt, i could feel it begin to fill again. Then a week later…boom another discharge. I’m wondering if you’ve had a similar experience?
Dave, I wouldn’t/couldn’t steer you wrong. Anyone who suffers from this miserable problem has my full support and I’m willing to give any and all advice you’d like. You CAN beat this yourself but you gotta stay on top of it. Since your wound is up higher I don’t know how much ‘cleaning’ you can do but do your best. But flood that wound with triple antibiotic as best you can while dousing the fistula tract from the drain hole they left.
The day my doctor said it was indeed a fistula I knew what I had to do I just needed the confidence this site provided to push me to do it. I sure didn’t want to have it cut open as I have read far too many horror stories about those failures.
I haven’t had an injection for over a week. Oh…and as I said the first few weeks I was getting injections of about 1 ml. Well, over time, we were able to get less and less in there. I presume this is because there is no longer space in there for it. when it kept abscessing, the skin back there was loose and almost floppy. Not anymore! It’s back to feeling completely normal….inside and out. I haven’t had the slightest tinge of pain or problems. In fact, I can probably lay off the O of O because it’s getting more difficult to get the needle inside. The wife has to really work it to get it in now. I believe it is healing but I’m STILL wanting to keep that access hole opened in case the unthinkable were to happen. But, i have to say the longer I am healed the more confident I am that it will not return.
Before I did the above protocol, I NEVER imagined this day would come. I was about as depressed as one can be.
Please let me know if you have any other questions or if I failed to explain myself clearly enough. I am glad to help in any way I can.
My very best wishes to you Dave,
Jim
P.S.
I know a guy who’s wound was much higher than mine. He said he used a water bottle with a small applicator on it to cleanse after BM’s. He said he just used sterilized water. But he was able to squeeze the bottle and get the water high up in there. I’ll bet a few drops of O of O in that water would help too.
Just a thought.
Sorry for the novel of a post above. :- /

Jim – thank you so much for the information. I really appreciate you taking so much time to share what worked for you and providing all of your helpful insight. It provided all of the detail that I am looking for. I will be sure to post soon with updates. I am still experimenting with applicators/antibiotic ointment but hopefully I’ll have it down soon. I was using the NOW brand of WOO before but maybe brand does make a difference after all. I just bought the Mediterranean Herb & Spice P73 brand that you used and that Jini recommends. It is diluted with Olive Oil though and I thought we were supposed to use as close to full strength (pure oregano oil) as possible? Was I wrong abut that or is there another Mediterranean Herb & Spice product that I am missing? Seems very pricey to be diluted with olive oil whereas the MOW says that it is 100% pure oregano oil. Thank you for all of your help and I look forward to providing a positive update soon!
Hi Dave (& everyone else!) – It’s VERY important to distinguish between ESSENTIAL oil of oregano and the commercial brands for oral use – which are already mixed with olive oil (usually in a 3:1 or 4:1 olive oil:essential wild oregano oil ratio). IF you use Essential oil of wild oregano on your skin or mucous membranes it will literally burn the tissue. You may not feel it, but an examination will show actual burns.
SO. When I talk about FULL-STRENGTH I am talking about the usage at full-strength of a commercial brand already prepped for oral use (like NAHS P73 or Joy Of The Mountains). I am NOT talking about ESSENTIAL oil of oregano.
And when I give dilution ratios for wild oregano oil, I am still talking about using the commercial prep as your base and then diluting further with olive oil.
Hope that’s a bit clearer – I’ll add this bit to the post above too.
And thanks for helping each other out!
Dave,
I never tried to dilute the O of O. I went full strength all the way. And again, it wasn’t just a few drops. I wanted to destroy any and all bacteria and full strength did the job.
The Mediterranean Oil of Oregano with P73 is great. I think you’ll see amazing results now. I would use it full strength and lots of it especially at first. That’s what I did. (dosage I used is listed on previous post)
If there is anything else I help with please don’t hesitate to ask!
I’ll be cheering for you Dave-

How to Inject the WOO if the hole is too small. The needle will hurt. How do you ensure that the needle does not hurt.
Jain
Jain,
I probably shouldn’t comment on the needle. The “needle” I use is somewhat crude and sounds insane if I explain it anyway.
I’m sure Jini has some suggestions for the needle. I imagine it won’t be a sharp needle. Probably a needle with a rounded tip…maybe plastic? I’m not sure.
I used what was available at short notice. It works great with no pain. And my fistula tract is relatively short(1-2 inches) and this needle reaches the other end of the tract nicely.
I’m sure Jini will respond with a great suggestion.
Jim
The smallest syringe I know of is a dental syringe – should be available at your local pharmacy. They’re used for irrigating after gum surgery etc.
Hi Jim & and everyone else in this blog,
Out of curiosity, did you notice the fistula tract getting worse before it got better once starting the WOO protocol? I am noticing the portion of the fistula tract under the skin near the external hole swelling up a bit more than usual and it seems to be draining more frequently/consistently as well.
As I am guessing you experienced, the skin around the external opening gets irritated rather quickly from the WOO as does the rectum (due to it leaking out). My tract unfortunately has an external opening at the base of my scrotum or as my doctor gets a kick out of me referring to it as… the grundle area. If there is any silver lining it’s that it allows me to inject it myself when getting creative with a mirror. But that’s where the silver lining ends. The skin in that area, as you guys may know, is super sensitive and I am guessing a lot more than the skin on the bum. The location of the external hole also spells out the tract being much longer in nature. One of my previous doctors suggested that it was the longest tract he has seen. Awesome. So it may take me a bit longer to try to knock out the infection. But it is what it is I guess and I have to give it my best go. I was just curious to know if you experienced your tract getting worse before getting better (some form of healing crisis if you will).
I hope everyone is well and either healed or well on their way!
Dave
Dave, don’t know if this is in your wheelhouse or not, but if you could do a kind of modified shoulder stand, or even kneel down in “hemorrhoid position” that would help the mixture to flow into and along the track, hopefully to the end, rather than draining out. Okay, here you go, I’ve prepared an instruction sheet, so you can see exactly what I mean:
http://ltygblog.s3.amazonaws.com/Syringing-Positions.pdf
(Right click and Save As… to download)
Jini,
Thank you for the helpful chart. I don’t know how to explain the location but the these look like they would work if the external opening is on the buttocks. The location of my external opening is in the groin/base of scrotum so these positions would cause the external hole to be lower in the air than the tract if that makes any sense. So I would essentially be injecting uphill. The best location for me is on my back I think. But sometimes the tract seems “full” and doesn’t allow the WOO in as easily (hence the spill over and irritated skin by the external hole). Other times it flows through easier and burns on the way out of the rectum once passing through the internal hole. All good times 🙂
Okay I *think* I understand what you mean. Without diagrams, it’s pretty hard to communicate! But you’ve also made me think… iF someone had to lie on their back, they could also lie on a slant board. You’d just go get a piece of 3/8″ plywood from Home Depot – they can cut it shorter/narrower for you. Then put one end up on your bed or couch and the other end on the floor. Yep, nothing but good times ahead!
Dave,
I wouldn’t say my fistula opening ever got irritated. The only thing I ever noticed is that when the injection was complete, I could feel a very small lump where the O of O was delivered. But that would dissipate over the course of hours and was painless after the first few minutes of sting.
But, in my case, I had just gotten that whole area ‘cleaned out’. I had been to the doctor the day I began this treatment. She was looking to see if I had a fistula at all because on previous inspections she didn’t think there was a fistula. So during the exam she had purged most of the puss/fluids that might have been present at the time of the exam. It was in the recovery room that she came to tell me it was indeed a fistula and she needed to cut it from one end to the other to allow it to heal from the inside. I have IBS and it’s not unusual for me to have to “go” 3 times a day. I simply couldn’t see how laying the tract wide open for more bacteria to ride over it would possibly help and from what I’ve read it often doesn’t help. So, it was no thanks on more surgery…at least not until I tried everything else i could think of. (and this protocol was my last option)
The only other thing worth mentioning is, for the first couple of days, there would be some puss leaking (a very small amount but infection none the less)from the fistula tract opening. But that ended after two days. How quickly that infection/puss starts. Amazing.
It’s encouraging to read that you are able to get the O of O far enough in that it leaks out of the internal hole. While this isn’t the goal, it’s good to know you are able to deliver it right to where it needs to be. (I had the same experience a number of times over the weeks and months of the injections)
It’s good to know that if bacteria from the inside hole gets into the fistula tract it is greeted by and immediately annihilated by the Oil of Oregano. That bacteria has to be the worst kind of bacteria in the body. But it’s no match for the Oil of Oregano.
I wish I had an explanation for the irritation around the opening of the fistula tract you are experiencing. Does it cause pain? If so, does the pain last a long time or does it fade relatively quickly? I never had any discomfort in that area unless my wife had difficulty finding the opening with the needle. but even then, with the needle I use with a rounded tip, it’s not sharp enough to pierce or cause irritation.
You certainly were “lucky” to get it where you did. (NOT!) Ouch. And yes, even a drop of Oil of Oregano on the sack can cause a man to get stuck to the ceiling! I’ve had that happen too when I tried to self inject and it wasn’t pleasant but no harm done.
Please let me know how you are progressing Dave. I would expect over the next few days you will see dramatic changes down there. Positive changes. How often are you injecting?
Ok Jain…I’ve worked up the nerve to tell you…For the record, my ‘needle’ is…sit down for this…a basketball/football air pin screwed onto a cheapo plastic syringe. 🙂 It works! and it’s got two holes…one at the tip and one on the side. Like I said.. it sounds insane. But it works great, no pain (round tip) and can be taken off and sterilized any time. They just didn’t have anything I could use at the stores I invaded and I wanted to get started on this asap. So there it is- Just call me Macgyver. (Or crazy…I respond to both.)
Abscesses and fistula’s can do that to a person.
Again, sorry for the novel..
Jim
Dear Jini, I am grateful to have found this site. As I have been having diarrhea on and off for past two years, and was diagnosed with a yeast overgrowth last year. Early this year, after being on antifungals for a months, I became constipated, ended up with pain in the rectum, and then a gluteal abscess. I was tested and found to have a fistula a couple weeks ago.
There is no abscess currently (doing sitz baths everyday) but I continue to have quite a bit of drainage.
I would like to ask, about the syringing process…. So I will go to a pharmacy and buy a plastic syringe, like an oral syring or dental one as mentioned above.
I have an open cut (about half the size of a dime) on my buttock, from where the drainage comes out. However, what I had seen earlier, is the fistula was coming down through the (no longer present) abscess that was just to the right of the cut, and further down the the abscess (no longer present) which is just south of the cut. It is not deep currently. How will orient the plastic syringe to ensure the stuff actually goes through the tunnel? I am kind of confused about this. Also, to put the syringe in, I will be standing and looking at myself in the mirror, I wondered if the fluid will stay inside long enough for me to get into the postures you recommended above, or if you have any other suggestions. Want to make sure I do what I can to ensure this works, and that I don’t make anything worse.
I also want to ask, when I had my yeast infection, it was found that my yeast is resistant to oil of oregano. Do you know if there is there any concern with taking the oil of oregano (I understand it will not help kill the yeast, but could it make it more resistant)?
in gratitude,
Amisha
Sorry, I want to add also, that my fistula starts at the dentate line, through the inner and outer muscle, and is about 8 inches long total.
It is a shallow fistula according to the MRI, and I think I have seen it in the skin surface sometimes after waking in the morning, if I slept on my back.
Would the oil be able to penetrate down to reach the fistula (even the part in the muscle) if I cover all the skin in the area (ie instead of using a syringe)?
I read about the laser, and thinking about that also.
Hi Amisha, without seeing your wound, it is really hard to guess what the access, penetration, etc. would be. So you may want to consider using the Oregano/DMSO formula (i.e. Formula A or B) topically instead – as the DMSO will carry it through the tissue.
My readers (and myself) who use wild oregano intensively, or long-term, also use high dose Natren probiotics. We have had no reports of pathogen resistance developing as a result. You can use olive leaf extract as an alternative.
Thank you so much Jini. I will pickup the DMSO and begin that approach.
I noticed that my drainage hole (from I&D) is getting smaller. Is there anything I can put on there to help keep it open?
Does the WOO encourage the hole to close?
I wondered if there is a drawing salve I can use in conjunction, that would not encourage the hole to close?
The DMSO will transport the WOO through the skin, so there is no need to keep the hole open. The WOO is a drawing substance, so if there’s anything in there that needs to come out, it will. Otherwise, just let healing take its course. Please post back here to let people know which Formula you used (A or B) and how they worked for you. As these formulas are experimental, every bit of feedback helps!
Thank you Jini. Have many people found success with formulas A and B? If so, how long has it typically taken for the fistula to heal?
Also, I am scheduled for a MR Enteroscopy. I understand I will have to drink some liquid (Barium?) and perhaps have an IV. Is there anything I should be aware of, and is there anything I can do to prevent side effects from these?
Hi Amisha,
We have received good feedback for both formulas but it hasn’t worked for everyone and your results may vary depending on your specific medical situation. Of all diagnostic tests, an enterography is probably one of the least invasive but if you have concerns about the barium or IV then your physician will be able to give you more details about risk factors and potential side effects.
Kind regards,
Justin

Sorry, a correction- it’s an MR Enterography not an Enteroscopy.
Hi Jini, thanks for the information on this site. My understanding is that a fistula forms a pyogenic membrane and it is this which prevents it from closing and thus healing. So when the surgeons cut the membrane out, it can then heal. So my question is what does the WOO do with the pyogenic membrane? Does it destroy/dissolve it?
I’ve had 4 operations for abscess/fistula and I think I am at the stage where the excision of an abscess is prevented from healing fully due to the fecal matter. I have a scar which weeps pus after a bad BM (there are the bad ones and the good ones if you know what I mean).
After my experience I’m petrified to go to the doctors again so I suffer in silence and I’m wondering if your protocol would be worthwhile? I think it might be.
Thanks,
Chris.
Hi Chris,
We aren’t able to go into detail as we are not medical professionals and not qualified to do so but we would suggest speaking with your physician regarding the details of the surgical procedure you mentioned. However, what I can tell you is that pus is produced in response to infection and Jini’s basic protocol focuses on eliminating the infection by delivering wild oregano oil (a powerful, natural antibiotic) directly to the site of the abscess or fistula.
Kind regards,
Justin

Im starting this protocol this week! Very excited at the possibility of removing my setton. It has been in place for 2 years and there is practically 0.05% of the drainage that used to exist.
When I sit, the seton cuts trough my rectum and is very uncomfortable. My l11 year old neighbor was over today and she asked me what was wrong when I sat down.
I just said “my butt hurts”. 🙂
Id love to not make faces anymore and be able to sit and be comfortable 100% of the time!
Hi Eli,
We’d love to hear how it goes for you and wish you all the best with it! If you have any questions along the way please don’t hesitate to post here or contact us at service@listentoyourgut.com

Hi Eli,
Best of luck starting this. I hope you and everyone on this site will experience the same success I’ve had. I started it last October (20014) and I haven’t had a problem since. I’m certain I can discontinue using oil of oregano at this point but, every few weeks i still get a shot in there just to keep the access door (drain hole ) open. I NEVER want it to return. I saw slight drainage the first day or two then nothing..ever again.
They wanted to put a seton in me but I refused. But since you have one, maybe it will help you start to get the oil of oregano in there…if you can move/rotate the seton? Will it rotate? If it does, drench the seton with O of O and rotate the drenched part into the fistula. Even a little bit of O of O will kill the infection.
Still, in my mind (having no experience with a seton so I may be wrong), the seton keeps the hole inside opened which invites more bacteria into the hole inside. Maybe losing that seton will come next? I’m told you can cut the string and pull it out yourself. (that’s what they were telling me but i still refused) 🙂
At some point (sooner than later) you’ll want that hole inside closed and you’ll coat it with a triple antibiotic ointment so it will…A.) protect the opening inside from allowing bacteria to enter and B.) begin to heal that opening so it closes for good.
Then, from the outer opening you will inject O of O into it…as far in and as close to the inner opening as possible. Do this as Jini prescribes above…a number of times each day for the first few days then gradually ween off as much as you feel appropriate. I went at it like gangbusters because I was so done with that whole miserable cycle.
If your wound isn’t releasing much drainage, I have to believe most of it has drained. (2 years?? yikes!) Regardless. You are about to end this painful chapter in your life for good.
And of course, after any and all BM’s, clean up back there really well, then apply the triple antibiotic inside using a gloved finger. (very important) Stick with that for a long time. It takes a long time for it to heal inside but the triple antibiotic and O of O will speed up healing. Overkill is good in this situation. Better too much than not enough.
(I went through a tube and half of triple antibiotic but not even a whole bottle of oil of oregano.)
I wish you the very best.
Jim
THANK YOU SO MUCH Jim!! for reaching out here and sharing your experience and insights with others. I’m sure you’re a big help to people just getting started. hugs, Jini
Hi Jim,
I have a rectovaginal fistula so do you think you can explain how I would use the antibiotic ointment with the oregano oil. I guess I’m not understanding how your explaining on how to apply it.
Thanks,
Alicia
Hi there, I’ve read through a lot of the comments but as this post is older there are too many to read them all, so please forgive me if I’m repeating anything. I started to get a swelling next to my labia while late in my pregnancy with my daughter. My Obstetrician thought it was a bartholin gland cyst and advised it would likely burst on delivery. Well, it didn’t, and about 4 weeks after her birth it became a full blown abscess. He wanted me to have surgery to drain it and marsupialize it but I read that it would not work and would just keep coming back so I tried to heal it naturally. I tried to heal it with serrapeptase, silica spray, Epsom salt baths, chamomile tea compresses, bentonite clay, ACV and tea tree oil masks, the works. it eventually drained but didn’t heal up. Over the next few months it kept flaring up and weeping and was very painful. Eventually I went in for the surgery after about 4 months of this pain and he discovered it wasn’t just a bartholin gland abscess, but it was an anal fistula. This was confirmed by a colorectal surgeon who wanted to place a cutting seton, or even surgery, but warned me if the risk of sphincter weakness as a result. None of this has been done as I fell pregnant again shortly after the diagnosis. Now I’m 17 weeks along and want to try the WOO method. Since that initial surgery the flare ups aren’t as bad, but it’s still draining and I have to a wear a liner at all times or I get fecal matter and pus in my undies. I’m desperate to try to avoid surgery after birth and know as my pregnancy progresses it may cause it to flare up again so I’d like to clear it up now if I can. Any contraindications during pregnancy?
Hi Bree,
Wild oregano oil is a powerful, natural antibiotic so you’ll definitely want to check with your doctor before proceeding with the syringing protocol just to make sure that it won’t be an issue with your specific situation. Unfortunately, we can’t tell you one way or another as we are not medical professionals and not qualified to do so but if you decide to try the protocol and have any questions along the way please don’t hesitate to ask. And, of course, we’d love to hear how it all works out for you regardless of which path you decide to take.
Kind regards,
Justin

Bree….I know it’s been a couple of years, but I’m curious how your situation turned out? I had almost the exact same experience and now I have another lump forming on the other side of my vagina 9 weeks post partum. Did you do this protocol, and if so, did it turn out alright?
Hello everyone. I am 22 years old and I first started noticing a problem about five months ago. I had a bowel and it felt like I had a hemorrhoid of some sort. I started to apply ointment and before I knew it, it felt like I had a heavy ball of something under my skin in the area between my vagina and anus on the right side. I seen so many doctors and when they finally decided it was an abscess, it took them over a month to do anything productive about it so it ended up getting bigger and much worse. I finally had it opened and drained. I then Packed it for a while but when it started to build up again, my surgeon had to reopen it. On Flagyl and Cipro, it started to get better but then it started getting worse. I seen a GI specialist that conducted a colonoscopy, he did not initially see any inflammation in the anus or anything except for a slight inflammation in the ileum. A week later my surgeon went in and placed a seton and came back saying that there is in fact inflammation in the anal cavity. Consequently, they are now saying that they believe it to be crohns even though I have no other symptoms or anything of it. This was in the beginning of June. They started me on a medicine that they call 6MP which is the lowest because I denied the remicade. I then started to get infected after a week of taking it so now they took me off of it for a while to take Flagyl and Cipro again. Once finished, they are now starting me back up on the 6MP and continuing the cipro. They want me to get balanced on this medication before removing the seton and giving my body a chance to heal. The surgeon said he will try that because I do not want to have surgery. But he stated that he doesn’t believe it will heal. I am desperate for help. I’m only 22 and I’m scared. I have not had kids yet and I fear incontenance if I have surgery. I’m desperate for help to find something natural. I have the seton in now and it occasionally gets uncomfortable and irritated but it mostly only starts to drain and swell up after a bowel movement. I have been reading all of these comments and I really want to try something natural but I do not know where to start. Please someone help me with some advice and some particular recommendations because I’m tired of medication and I want this seton out and to be able to live my life. I’m losing weight, I’m just very depressed and it is hard to see any hope. Please help. Thank you in advance.

Hi Melissa,
Well I can completely relate to your depression and feelings of hopelessness. I was in your shoes just a year ago. I’ve had other major medical problems in life but this one…it was just different and the pathetic options our western medicine offers us (surgery, more surgery, and more surgeries) for this just aren’t acceptable.
Justin’s advice is good. Please read the offered procedures at the top of this page. You can also read the many posts on it as well. Feel free to check out everything I have written on the subject too as I have successfully treated this myself and I am finally free of that miserable condition. (the one to Eli may be of particular interest as he too had a seton ) I basically followed the guide lines in the article above and tweaked some things to my preference.
You CAN beat it. I am living proof. I dealt with recurrences for over 14 months before I finally reached the end of my rope and decided to use oil of oregano to kill it. I had been a huge fan of oil of oregano prior to all this happening to me so I had already been familiar with it’s very powerful anti-bacterial / antibiotic properties.
Yep. pharmaceutical antibiotics make it seem like it’s going away. You get this false sense of hope because while you’re taking them, things seem to be improving. But, it never fails. As soon as you complete the antibiotics, the abscess returns. Yes indeed. VERY depressing.
Everything you need to know is on this page. Jini and her crew have done a great job getting this information out here for all to see. As you’ve probably noticed, there aren’t many options online or anywhere else to find an alternate treatment for this.
If there are any questions I can answer, don’t hesitate to ask. But again, please read and reread if need be the information on this page. It saved my butt…literally.
BTW, there are tests to confirm Crones disease. These hospitals and doctors drive me nuts. Instead of guessing, they should know. If I never have to see another doctor it will be much too soon!
I wish you the very best Melissa,
Jim (former abscess/fistula sufferer)
Hi Jim,
Thanks so much for chiming in and sharing your story. It’s great to hear that the protocols worked so well for you and that you were able to heal!

Justin, thank you for the response. Yes I know you cannot give me medical advice. I have read all of these articles, and I want to try the oregano oil. I am just unsure of which way to use it would be best: orally, topically, injections. I have a seton placement, I am on antibiotics and medication so I just merely would like to know if someone has an opinion on mixing oregano oil into the equation and how they have done so. I will definitely try emailing you guys however. Thank you.
Hi Melissa,
If you’re currently taking prescription antibiotics then you probably should hold off on oral wild oregano oil because it is a powerful antibiotic itself as well. The topical or syringing protocols Jini mentions at those links might be more suitable for your current situation if you decide to proceed, given your current situation.

Justin

Hi
This is cina. I suffer from abcess time to time. Two years before i got a really big one which the doctors cut and drained. After a year or so i started getti g it again. It subsides a little bit when i take antibiotics and then flares ip again. (It is located in the peranal area). Now i have a really big one which the doctor said may be a fistula, and has recommended surgery. I wanted to know if the wild oregano oil protocol might work. I would like to avoid surgery. If you would reply it would be great. Thank you. Your help is much appreciated.

Hello,
Thank you so much for this site and all the information! It has given me hope in a situation that can make a person feel deflated and hopeless.
My 11 year old son has a suspected fistula from a perianal abscess that we have been fighting for a few months now with several rounds of antibiotics and twice daily epsom salt baths. It weeps a green puss, and I have seen pustules and weepage from the area above the fistula tract. He has lost nearly 10 pounds and is quite pale. He loses more weight with every flare up after we stop antibiotics. The surgeon is saying that the only way to find out for sure if it is a fistula and if it is open inside the anus is to do surgery. Where he would either open the tract or do a seton if it goes through the muscle. My son and I both agree that we do not want the surgery. Especially going in not knowing what the outcome will be. The thought of syringing up the anus is overwhelming to my son, so I do not want to do that if it doesn’t open in there. Not to mention how awkward and humiliating that would be for him. However this whole situation has been humiliating for him. The fistula opening on the outside is too small to fit a syringe inside of it. We stopped the epsom salt baths and have been applying a 15:1 (that is the strongest he can handle) wild oregano oil topically to the area for a couple days and saw improvement on the surface until he wanted an epsom salt bath yesterday. The area became red/inflamed and sore and leaked more puss as well as a pustule in the healed skin above the fistula opening. Has anyone successfully pulled the puss/drainage out without an epsom salt bath? What would be a good doseage of the oregano oil orally for a child? According to the bottle I have half of the adult dosage is 5 drops is that okay for a child of 11 years to take 3 times a day? I am also thinking about soaking a cotton ball in the 15:1 dilution and letting it sit on the area for 10 or so minutes several times a day, has anyone ever tried that or think it could be successful? I appreciate any wisdom/advice to help heal my little boy.
Hi Katie,
The syringing protocol is the most effective way Jini has found to heal fistulas and abscesses. Just in case you weren’t aware, the syringe Jini is talking about using with this protocol is not the kind with a needle on the end. Dental irrigation and oral syringes have a little plastic tip on the end instead of a needle and are easy to use; the tip doesn’t necessarily need to fit inside the fistula opening as long as it is against it. Using topical wild oregano oil alone could be beneficial but it may not give you the results you’re looking for and/or it may take a long time. The dosage you mentioned should be fine if that’s the route you decide to take. If you haven’t checked it out already, one of Jini’s readers had success using infrared light therapy on her son’s peri-anal abscess so that’s another potential option. More info about that here:
https://blog.listentoyourgut.com/laser-therapy-for-peri-anal-abscess-or-fistula/
We wish you all the best with whatever you decide to do and would love to hear how it works out.
Kind regards,
Justin

Hi Katie,
I am very sorry for you and your son. It is a very, very difficult thing to deal with.
I’ll be brief. If you read my posts above, you’ll see how I was able to completely heal my abscess/fistula. They are pretty in-depth and detailed. (in fact, they’re almost exactly as I learned here from Jini! My dosages were a little more liberal because i was getting desperate!) If you have questions after reading them, please feel free to ask.
I only have one question: Is the abscess opening inside close to the anus opening or further up inside? It’s critical that you use a triple antibiotic ointment (available OTC at any pharmacy / drug store) constantly inside the anus to promote healing and creating and ‘seal’ between fecal matter and the open wound inside. This helps keep more bacteria from getting into the wound inside the anus. Never inject Oil of Oregano inside the anus. (ouch!) That should be injected into the fistula opening. It may look too small but trust me, a small needle will slide in easily especially since it will have oil of oregano on it to help it slide in. I used a basketball air pin, screwed onto a plastic syringe. Sounds crude but, it has a rounded tip and a hole at the tip and on the side.
Don’t despair Kate. If the opening inside is close enough for you to apply the triple antibiotic (after each and every bowel movement ..no exceptions…) you guys can beat this. I did.
You have two things to deal with.
1. Triple antibiotic inside the anus to protect and heal the wounded area-
2. Inject the oil of oregano through the fistula opening from the outside.
it’s really that simple and really not painful.
BTW, I’m not sure it’s a good idea to give it to your son orally. I thought I read it shouldn’t be taken orally by children under 16-18 but i could be wrong.
Personally, I don’t think it helps orally. It needs to be delivered right to the site of the problem. It may improve slightly if only taken orally but, it will never heal. The dreaded cycle will continue.
If i can be of any more help please ask. These are great people running this site and you came to the right place.
I wish you guys the absolute best,
Jim
Ok, as instructed I’ve (I think) read all the comments and don’t think these questions have been asked…I live in Ecuador and getting George’s Aloe here is impractical and way too expensive. But I grow aloe vera and drink it every day. 1.) Can I use aloe and water blended for the DMSO fistula recipe? 2.) And is that to be applied intravaginally as well as into the rectum, like the oregano recipe? (Which hasn’t worked, by the way, at least not after three weeks-still liquid coming through!)
3.) I assume a woman would stop the protocol while menstruating???
4.) Is it possible to have a fistula without any abscess nor external signs, just liquid coming out vag? Technically And out of necessity, I’ve self diagnosed after lifetime of constipation, retroverted uterus, recent findings of telescoping rectum after a coccyx fracture and ten months of irretractable pain. But there is definitely fluid exiting from where it shouldn’t be, usually just when/ if my bowels are sluggish again and I feel pressure from the telescoping. I’ve been doing the gut infection/wild oregano protocol since Sept, started the first trial of fistula tx with oregano but the past two days I stopped because I was expecting my period and coincidentally, more fluid again. Starting the full Elemental diet this week, but I’ve been using the shakes because I haven’t been able to eat solid food since the start of Oct. (after a July colonoscopy and resulting gastroperesis and slow to no-peristalsis) I’ve been waiting for everything to arrive from friends in the states before starting it “for real”.
5.) Is there anyone out there who has had complete and/or permanent healing of rectovaginal fistula using these suggestions? Please help. They have pretty good medical care here for basic stuff and my case is not that!!
Hi Liana,
To answer your questions:
1. If the aloe vera you are growing isn’t causing you any issues then it might be OK. However, according to Warren Laboratories (the company that makes George’s Aloe Vera Juice):
The thick greenish substance just beneath the rind in the latex layer of the plant is where some of the undesirable components of aloe vera are located. These substances are irritants and when ingested can cause cramping and diarrhea and in some cases nausea.
You’ll just want to be careful about using an unrefined product if you find that you’re not making any progress and maybe eliminate the homemade aloe for a week if it comes to that.
2. Yes, the more potent experimental syringing formula is for both places.
3. For a rectovaginal fistula it would probably be best to pause the protocol during menstruation.
4. Not that we’ve heard of but that would be a better question for your doctor as we aren’t qualified to speculate about your specific health situation.
5. We haven’t yet received any feedback about the experimental protocol from anyone with a rectovaginal fistula but we’ve had people tell us that the protocol has helped to heal anal fistulas. If wild oregano oil alone has not worked then perhaps you’ll have better luck with the experimental protocol. We’re very interested to hear about your results if you’d like to share them once you’ve tried the elemental diet, DMSO, etc.
Kind regards,
Justin

Thanks so much Justin. I appreciate the feedback about homegrown aloe. Yes, I’m hoping to write a glowing testimonial for Jini when I’m on the other side of this!
After following the oil of oregano protocol injecting it into the fistula for the period of time as suggested, does one expect for there no longer be any drainage? Or is it just a different type of drainage (ie no infection) that will continue to come out?
How can one tell if the drainage no longer has infection?
Hi Amy,
If the infection is gone, the amount of pus should be greatly reduced or it may even be completely gone. The goal is to get rid of the infection, stop drainage, and for the fistula to heal.
Kind regards,
Justin

Thanks Justin.
I went to OR for the area to be cleaned. It was completely dry for a couple days. Then after having a bowel movement, the area began to have drainage again.
I am trying to understand if I were to do this protocol, at what point I would feel comfortable removing the setons.
What is considered infection? Is it considered infection only if there is pus? Or any drainage at all?
If the drainage becomes more like mucus (ie no longer pus), would it be safe to remove the setons then?
I am doing HBOT currently, and considering doing this treatment together.
Hi Amy,
I wish I had a better answer for you but I’m not qualified to comment or speculate about your specific health situation. Your doctor would be able to give you more details about things to look for which would indicate when your infection has cleared up and advise you regarding the setons.
Kind regards,
Justin

Setons can be made of nylon, silicone, rubber, plastic etc. How can you know if your Seton is made of nylon vs rubber or silicone vs. rubber as nylon is safe to use with DMSO according to my research as is silicone. My GI doctor has no clue what my seton is made of and my OR report from when l had my RV Seton placed just says a seton was placed for drainage. To get in to see the surgeon to just ask this question and wait 6 months would be a waste of his time. l’ve tried to find pictures online and can mostly only find sketches. Can you describe the differences or direct me to a site that might show pictures or describe the differences more clearly or maybe could you post some more detailed information on the different materials and what they might feel like etc. Thank you.
Hi Seta,
I’m afraid that we cannot help you with identifying the material which your seton is made from. If you have a seton in place, you’ll probably want to avoid the DMSO and just stick with the wild oregano syringing protocol mentioned in the blog post above as there are some other comments on this post which mentioned favorable results using just that. The protocol with DMSO is what Jini suggests if the wild oregano oil doesn’t give you good results by itself.

Justin

Soi wrote a while ago about my perianal fistula, I was pregnant at the time and breastfeeding my eldest. Now I’m just breastfeeding. I had a Seton placed yesterday and a Rx for metronidazole which I’ve taken 2/21 so far. I am going to try the syringing protocol but not the oral due to BFing. I suspect localized application comes with fewer risks of transfer to the best milk than systemic ingestion. But if I’m taking Abx already I wonder if I may add well do the oral WOO BC it’s gonna do the same thing, screw up my poor baby’s tummy 🙁 I want to start ASAP as I’ve had no BM since my prep for the colonoscopy so everything is very clean still. First, some questions. Sorry if they’ve been addressed, the comments are just too many for a time poor mumma to read them all.
1. no easy access to organic olive oil. Can I use organic unrefined coconut oil as a carrier or plain olive oil?
2. How do I know if it’s healing with the Seton in place?
3. My fistula does go thru the spinchter muscle so I must avoid surgery. My CR surgeon says the WOO won’t work bc the fistula had been there too long and the tract inside has epithelialized. It’s only been there 18 months, surely people have had successful healing with much older fistulas?
Lastly should I be stringing just from the external opening? Near my anus, so it’s not too long I don’t think. Anything I should be doing in my rectum? Antibiotic ointment? Syringing internally that way? But sure how far up it is, forgot to ask and haven’t felt BC still tender from the Seton placement. Also, I can’t use triple antibiotic ointment, I’m allergic to the sulfa in it.
Thanks so much for any help Justin and Jini!!
Hi Bree, I’ll answer what I can… (1) yes, you can use either oil you suggested
(2) I don’t know, you’ll have to read through the comments from people who have had a similar condition, use the [COMMAND F] keys to pull up a little search window and type in “Seton” then it will highlight all instances that word appears and that should make scrolling quicker. Well that’s how it works on a mac, you might have a different command for a PC.
(3) If penetration is the issue, then you may want to try Formula A instead – but make sure you assess the ingredients for impact on breastmilk – do some Google research.
Hope that helps and please understand that (a) I am legally prohibited from giving personal health advice and (b) we can’t possibly advise you on something we can’t even see, so you will either have to find an integrative physician who can guide you, or just feel your way along. You can also consult with this doc via phone or Skype:
https://blog.listentoyourgut.com/mom-heals-daughter-using-jinis-protocols-then-becomes-a-doctor/
Bree – I’m not a doctor but would be more worried about the oral metronidazole / flagyl that your are on. That could get in the breastmilk for sure and screw up your baby’s stomach. You may want to get your baby on a probiotic and mix it in with a bottle of breastmilk. There is a brand called Jarrow that makes “Baby Jarrow” in a powder form. You may also want to go on a probiotic yourself while on the antibiotic and a couple of weeks after. Some of the good benefits will also get to your baby through your breastmilk to help keep the flora good in her tummy and yours. If you can, find Jarrow’s Saccharomyces boulardii for yourself and take that while on the antibiotics. It’s a yeast based probiotic so the antibiotic won’t kill the good bacteria like it would/could in other non/yeast probiotic strains. In this scenario “yeast” is beneficial. If you don’t know much about this read about in on the Internet. The goal here is to prevent antibiotic induced colitis in you or your baby as a result from the antibiotic. Good luck!
Very good advice Dave. Here’s more details on how to dose while on antibiotics:
https://blog.listentoyourgut.com/re-populating-the-gut-with-probiotics-after-antibiotic-usage/
And Natren’s Life Start is also ideal for babies, mixed in breastmilk, or mine used to just suck it right off my finger. I put the dosage in a little soy sauce dish and dip/suck until it’s all gone.
I had very large abscess surgically removed 10 months ago, turned into a complex horseshoe fistula, one on each cheek, still draining. Abscess did considerable damage to rectum. Do you think using a suppository made out of organic coconut oil and wild oregano oil would help the healing process? I could make my own.
Hi Sem,
It’s possible that a suppository like that could have a beneficial effect – let us know if you decide to try it! If that doesn’t net you the results you’re looking for then you may want to try some ingredients from the potent experimental syringing formulas in the blog post above.

Hi Sem, there is another person on a crohn’s forum who said he uses coconut oil suppositories, and it helps to dry up his fistula. he uses them after a bowel movement. he freezes the oil in ice cube trays, and he says they are the size of almonds. then stores them in fridge. i did try this briefly but noticed blood coming from the tract and was concerned that the area may be getting irritated. i have also thought similarly to you, as to how to make a suppository with something like oil of oregano, or maybe frankinsence oil or turmeric…. but am scared to try it, as I don’t want to make anything worse. i wish you luck, and would be interested in hearing your experience if you decide to go forward. be careful and take care. i have been living with this for about a year and am also longing to heal. i did notice that oil of oregano is quite strong, so definitely would want to take care to dilute it really well as Jini also mentions.
Hi Amisha,
Thanks so much for piping in and sharing that info!

Amisha, haven’t tired the suppositories yet, but I do try to include resistant starch in my diet every day (cures some people, lots of info in Internet about RS), also consume 2 T of ghee (from butter or coconut oil) with milk (more resistant starch which is why some people have luck with it). I also take 2000 mg of Vitamin D3 and 1000 mg of Vitamin C. I do feel stronger, but still can only sit or stand for 1 to 2 hours at a time. My doc wants to do a colostomy, ugh
Hi Sem, thanks for the response. I will research RS. Thank you for sharing. An ayurvedic practitioner suggested couple things for me. I am not sure I should post online, as it may be individualized advice, but I can share with you if you would like to reach me anitalovesturtles@gmail.com. Please put “Sem” in subject line if you do send an email. Sounds like we are both in tough situations… maybe we can exchange notes…
Hi Jini
My son who was diagnosed with Chron’s about 18 months ago, started using Oregano oil for his entrocutanous fistula about two weeks ago, after few days the fistula was closed, but then it opens up few days after. What do you think it happened and what is your suggestion?
Hi Laleh,
If continuous use of the wild oregano syringing protocol in the blog post above is only closing the fistula temporarily then you may want to consider trying some of the other suggestions in the post like infrared laser therapy or one of the two more potent experimental syringing formulas.

Just want to confirm, mixing Olive oil 7 drops with Oregano oil 1 drop only for topically. No need of to mix with water? Am i right.
Also, for rectal, will be the same? Right?!

Hello, thank you for writing this article it is tremendously helpful. 1 question though, I have WOO that says it is already mixed with olive oil and applying topically at max strength is no problem for me heat wise, but the skin where I apply it has turned white and is peeling off! Is this normal or should I dilute it with more olive oil?
Thanks again!
Hi Eric,
If the skin is becoming irritated then you may want to dilute it down a bit more but if the skin is peeling off just to reveal new, healthy skin underneath then you might want to just continue what you’re doing to see if you achieve the desired result.

Guys I will not talk much…just drink apple cider vinegar…and make wild oregano enema diluted with olive oil…believe me it works!!!
I have a 4 mo old with a perianal abscess that has been around for a month now and waxes and weans. I can get it smaller with polysporin and warm butt soaks but as soon as he has multiple bm’s in a day or in a row it gets aggravated and grows and hardens again. Can I use this protocol but maybe 50:1 ratio of the North American herb spice brand (only one they have at while foods our of ur list that I can get immediately)? Idk if there are age restrictions. Was just going to try it topically. Thanks
Hi Slyvia,
Thank you for your question. Your poor child! This method has been used on children, but at such a young age we would highly recommend consulting the pediatrician concerning the use of this protocol. The 50:1 North American Herb Oregano oil should be ok, you would just have to use more oil olive for it. The North American Herb Oregano Oil is diluted at 1:1 which means it is 50% wild oregano oil and 50% olive oil. The Joy of the Mountains product uses a 3:1 dilution so that one is 25% wild oregano oil and 75% olive oil. So you would need about twenty drops of olive oil to one drop of the 50:1. However we also have fast shipping options if you would like to order our Joy of Mountain Wild Oil of Oregano. We also have free 2 day shipping with orders over $100.
We also have this article for another treatment method a customer used: https://blog.listentoyourgut.com/laser-therapy-for-peri-anal-abscess-or-fistula/
However the boy was 10 years old, so you will have to consult your doctor if it is something that could be used for a baby.
We would love to hear what you find out and what is able to help your baby.

Rachel

For now I’m doing Tushie soaks after each bm and applying polysporin of this strong calendula (pimple) oil I use for boils and acne. These methods help to shrink and soften it but it doesn’t go away. Pediatric surgeon wants me to do antibiotics but admits it’s only 65% chance that it’ll clear it and 50% chance that it won’t come back…and another 50% chance that it’ll develop a fistula. I’m so torn I don’t know where to go. I’m afraid with such a tiny gut to give an experimental round of antibiotics…my ped who is more wholistic says to just monitor and keep doing what I’m doing and we will continue to reassess. Even lancing it I’ve read could result in a higher chance of fistula. It’s a lose lose situation. I’d rather do things topically first.
I meant that I purchased the North American herb brand at whole foods and would add 50+ drops of olive oil to one drop of that…since it’s more concentrated…
I’m so torn…

Hi Jini,
Please can I ask for your advise?
I have developed an anal abscess which may or may not be developing into a fistula. It constantly fills and weeps then hurts then weeps again. I am desperate to avoid surgery. Help! I’m lost! I know you all are not “doctors and cannot provide medical advice”… I am just seeking all information and experiences possible. In 2009 I had my gallbladder removed. Shortly after I began having issues when I would fast for more than 18 hours. I would have explosive painful diarrhea from the constant drop of bile. As long as I ate regularly I didn’t have issues. Well in the spring on this year (2016) I started having terrible panic attacks like I did when I was much younger, pretty consistent diarrhea (yellow/mucus), and then I had a perianal abscess for the first time. I went to the GI Doctor and he gave me cholestyramine. I take half a packet per day and no more diarrhea. I had a colo./rectal surgeon lance and drain the small skin deep abscess. I used P73 Oreganol topicals and it heard right up. During all this time I had terrible fatigue, which I have had on and off since I was a teenager and my integrative medical doctor believes that I am Lyme negative but have major issues with recurrent Epstein-Barr virus. My CD57 natural killer cells are very low. I take a plethora of supplements that do seem to help. After that my mom died… STRESS! She was only 54, I am 31. I’ve been taking care of myself but then two weeks ago BOOM… Another perianal abscess on the opposite side. I went back to the surgeon and have this one lanced and drained just the same. I used Oreganol and my Lumen Photon infrared pad and this one is taking MUCH longer to heal. It’s seem to have close to weeks after and the surgeon said it looked great. Two days after he was pressing on it at my check up it began to put out little drops of blood. I started oreganol and the lumen treatments again. The surgeon says if it happens again they will want to take me into the operating room. And I know my GI doc is going to want me to have a colonoscopy to look for crohns. I do NOT have a family history of crohns, I am not dropping pounds (if anything I am gaining), I have no major stomach pain, I’m just so lost! My symptoms do not add up. Does anyone have any advice on what to do or what not to do? Is this really serious enough to have surgery or a colonoscopy? I’m scared…really BAD! Thank you in advance for any input.
I should also note that I have an issue with abscesses since I was in the hospital in 2009 for a couple weeks. I have had them on and off in various below the belt areas but nothing that didn’t heal well.
Hello Ashley,
Thank you for your message. You are right that we are not medical trained doctors and we can not give you a diagnosis. However we can give you some tips for your symptoms. I would start by going to this page and looking up treatment options for diarrhea, abcesses, and if any others you are concerned about: http://www.listentoyourgut.com/heal-your-symptoms.html
I would also do your research on colonoscopies before letting them do so as it can at times cause more harm. I recommend reading this article along with the comments: https://blog.listentoyourgut.com/colonoscopy-dangers-what-you-need-to-know/
As well as this free ebook about them by signing up in the pink box on the left: http://www.listentoyourgut.com/symptoms/20/intestinal-stricture-or-bowel-obstruction.html
You may also want to look into a more natural doctor if you feel like the doctors may not be helping through the medicines, tests, and surgeries. I know from personal experience how much these can sometimes make us worse and cause more personal trauma. We recommend looking into a naturopath or functional medicine doctor. We also know one that does online and phone appointments and uses Jini’s protocols if that is something you are interested in or not able to find a doctor in your area. You can reach us by these options or our chat link on the bottom right of our webpages: http://listentoyourgut.com/contact.html
I would also highly recommend researching more into emotional healing. It sounds like a lot of your symptoms could be caused from the stresses you have been through. So sorry for your loss. Jini highly recommends, EFT, meditating, Yoga, Counseling, and many other options. Jini talks a lot about how our emotional well being can connect and affect us greatly physically.
Jini explains a lot about different healing options for physical and emotional healing in her book in a lot of detail from years of research, and testing different options. As well as a lot of details on diets, supplements, vitamins, lifestyle changes that can help diarrhea as well. You can look into that more here: http://www.listentoyourgut.com/healing-resources/6/listen-to-your-gut-the-complete-natural-healing-program-for-ibs-and-ibd.html
Hope you can find some healing and helpful options with these resources. If you have any other questions please let us know.

Thank you for your feedback. I will look into all of the above. ❤️
I’ve been doing a lot of reading and trying to understand many protocols. I do have a question about how many others of proceeded with the WOO and other syringe protocols. I have this one abscess that was drained by a doctor and finally I got it to heal with topical WOO and lumen infrared pad BUT about once per week or so I sense it swelling and a bit of orange mixed blood comes out and then re-heals, which indicates a fistula from what I gather. The hole is extremely tiny! How would I go about syringing into it, I’m not sure then a dental syringe will fit. Some posts by other people make it seem like they are syringing the WOO and other mixtures into their rectum. I really have no desire to have a doctor take me into an operating room to find said internal fistula opening, do I have to? Can I fix this from the outside? What has worked for you all?
Hello Ashley,
Thank you for your inquiry. The WOO syringe protocol may be able to heal your abscess from the outside. Please see this link for more information on treating it: http://www.listentoyourgut.com/symptoms/19/fistula-anal.html
However, if you are concerned there may be some kind of infection internally there are some other options you can try to heal your gut as well. Such as the WOO orally, probiotics, and diet.
I would recommend looking through our symptoms pages if you feel something else is wrong that you need to treat: http://listentoyourgut.com/heal-your-symptoms.html
Please let us know if you have any other questions. Also you are welcome to contact us through email, phone and chat which you can see more information on here: http://listentoyourgut.com/contact.html

Ashley,
Ask your doctor to do a virtual colonoscopy instead.
They did one for me for the same reason…to check to see if I had Crohns.
At the time I was on antibiotics and I guess they’d rather not do a traditional colonoscopy when one is on antibiotics? (That’s what I was told anyway)
It’s non invasive (much like a CT-Scan) and they can determine whether or not you have Crohn’s disease with a virtual scope.
I hope this helps.
jim
Yikes Jim… Virtual Colonoscopy still requires bowel prep, which is what I just know I need to avoid if at all possible. I hope your outcome was good?
Argh…I’m sorry Ashley…
I had good results two years ago. (my ‘story’ is somewhere above in these comments) Got the abscess to finally heal. I thought it was done and gone for good but, as has happened to you and many others, it recently returned out of the blue, almost two years later for no apparent reason (to me anyway). Very frustrating. We started to treat it as we did last time…but that didn’t work. So, I had it ‘cleaned out’ under anesthesia recently.
Now it’s kind of in limbo…it isn’t flaring up or draining but it’s not completely gone either. I can still feel it slightly at times but there is no lump forming so far.
I soak 3x daily with a combination of Epsom salts, tea tree oil and Oil of Oregano.
I am also drinking Braggs Apple Cider Vinegar after each meal. I keep that area very clean. I have no idea which of these things are keeping it from re-abscessing or if anything I’m doing is making any difference. These abscesses seem so random and defy logic.
I can only wish you and everyone else struggling with this the very best of luck Ashley. Keep fighting, keep trying everything. There are tons of great idea’s and approaches to the problem on this website. I agree with refusing surgery. I read for some surgery works great. For others it turns into a real mess. With my luck I’m sure I’d end up with the mess. The doctors lack of certainty with treating these things keeps me from taking that plunge. If surgery fails then there would be scar tissue to deal with afterwards which only further complicates matters if it returns again. I just don’t want to go there. So I keep fighting it using natural methods/remedies and adjusting my diet / eliminating foods that aren’t good for me anyway.
Try everything you can and stay vigilante. Don’t give up. It can end as suddenly as it started.
One possible helpful tip; It has remained ‘dormant’ after having it cleaned out under anesthesia. I was able to get it under control two years ago after the same procedure. (I was completely fine for two years…like it had never happened) My doctor always wants to put a seton in and I tell her no…just get everything out of there so I can start fighting this from scratch…or as close to it as possible.
I wish you the best,
Jim
Jim,
I’m sorry for your pain, have you tried the SCD diet? I believe it fights the yeast built up in your body and is gut sensitive. I have am Native American and the processed foods/canned foods/boxed foods are killer to my digestion. I am doing this diet w oil of oregano treatment as wellI. I hope you feel better.

Hi there,
Im looking out for natural or home remedies for dog fistula. Does anyone in this group tried the concoction or formula to their dogs? Dog has been given oral antibiotics but he is just vomitting it. Xray for the stomach and GI tract is clear, meaning it could be the lost of appetite and vomotting can be caused by the dogs perianal fistula…
Would appreciate any feedback at the soonest…
Regards,
Jill
Hello Jill,
We are unsure of fistulas in dogs, but perhaps someone else has had experience with that. However, please see this information that may be helpful for your dog: https://blog.listentoyourgut.com/my-dog-has-ibs-and-a-gut-infection-help/
The probiotic for dogs that the article talks about may be helpful for your dog: http://shoppe.listentoyourgut.com/natren-caninedophilus-dog-probiotic-20-ml-syringe/
If you have any questions please let us know.

Before my fistula surgery I took diatamacous earth (food grade) which seemed to help from leakage. I have also monitored foods that make my gut sick, like packaged/processed foods/spices and pork… It’s literally the example of how I got my fistula I ate like a pig. I finally had surgery which made my fistula leak that terrible smelly stuff and my seton is so uncomfortable. I have been on a journey and am grateful for this ailment that has taught me so much about myself. I have started the SCD diet and am have become conscious and spiritually awake, which allows my to also be aware of where my food comes from. I have just recently taken oil of oregano orally (capsules) from sprouts grocery and feel it’s power. I hope to remove this seton and make this my lifestyle. Thank you so much for this blog.
Thanks Isaiah!
Ashley,
I doubt you’ll like my answer but, I did it with a basketball needle screwed onto a plastic syringe. Hey, it worked and worked well.
Yes it is a tiny hole. But the basketball needle will fit. And, it has a round-ish tip on it. You won’t be able to do it yourself (I couldn’t anyway…I tried) And whomever you get to do this has to do it slow and easy. We found the spinning the syringe as it slowly goes in helps guide it through the ‘tunnel’. We would get that needle almost all the way in….right behind where the abscess was located. So you’ll want to have the needle heading in the right direction as it goes in.
Those drain holes stay open for a very long time so you should be able to get it in there. You’ll be able to feel it when it gets close to the origin of the abscess.
Believe it or not, if done correctly and slowly, it is virtually painless to get it in there. But, you’ll need to let whoever is doing this know if it’s hurting. That means it’s not following the right path (tunnel) No need to stab out another path…that would indeed hurt and would be useless. That drain hole you have is a direct path to the source of the problem. I used full strength, EXTRA strength WOO every time. No burning at all inside but if any leaks onto your skin, you’ll want to rinse it off within a few minutes. Otherwise, it will burn. (that’s very sensitive / thin skin down there)
So, if you’re going to try it, go slowly, spin the needle if need be as it’s going in. You WILL be able to tell if it’s going in the right way / direction.
Not knowing where your abscess begins inside, I can’t tell you how far the needle should go in. Mine was between the inner and outer sphincter muscles so the needle we used was plenty long enough. If you’re is up further in the colon, you can still give it a try but you’ll probably have to insert the needle all the way in. The B-ball needle has a hole at the very tip and on the side. Perfect for what you’ll be using it for.
I know this all sounds insane, and it is. But so is an abscess / fistula and the surgeries that can go on and on. This is certainly worth a try but, it’s not for everyone. I was so determined (still am) not to go the surgery route that i was will to try just about anything. And this worked like a champ. No scars, no more puss, no more lump.
Let me know how it goes if you try it, or let me know if I can answer any questions.
BTW, I have posted this method a couple times in the comments above. You can look at those if you want more details on the process.
Best of luck Ashley.
I wouldn’t wish an abscess / fistula on anyone.
Those things are the definition of misery-
jim
Hi Jim! I know it’s been awhile since this thread has surfaced, but I was curious why you chose the Oil of Oregano option instead of the solution with DMSO, Aloe Vera, etc. Why did you choose just the oregano method? Hoping to hear from you, and thanks so much for your practical information thus far in the thread. As you know, these things are the opposite of fun.
Hi Jim,
I would like some guidance on the use of the syringes. I will try the DMSO formula mix. I am nervous to get my roomate to help me syringe my perianal fistula. I have the same one you had. Transphincteric, crosses both sphincter muscles… The pharmacist gave me a syringe…it has a sharp tip, I am kind of worried that it will create a new wound, although my roomate is trying to assure me it won’t. Anyways, if you get this please email juliajube@hotmail.com. I need some help. I have emailed this site, and called them once over the last couple weeks and no repply.
Hey Jim, do you have an email address, or can I give you mine. I just wanted to find out how successful you were with the oil of oregano. I am still trying to avoid surgery myself… …I just started to inject myself even though it is very difficult, i found a way, as i have no one to help me. juliajube@hotmail.com
do not use this formula, burned my anus
I lost my money and health
thanks for the help
Hello Peter,
Sorry to hear the formula did not work out for you. If it burns too much, we recommend adding more Aloe Vera to it. We also do not recommend using any other brands than the ones we recommend as we are unable to guarantee the strength and quality of the products. If you had used different products than we recommend that may have been the cause of it not working well. Hope you are able to find an answer to help you feel better soon.

How often can you use the comfrey enema
Is there a limit to how many doses in a week
Also what is the best maintenance programme to control the bleeding
Thank you so much for your help
I really do appreciate the advice
Again thank you
Hello Akram,
There is no specific limit on how often you can use the enema. We have some customers who do the enema as often as on a daily basis until their symptoms have subsided but it all comes down to what you feel you can deal with. However, a person typically needs to use it no more than 1-3 times at a time to stop the bleeding. I am unsure what the cause of your bleeding is, but you can see our recommendations on treatment and healing of many different conditions and symptoms here that may help: http://listentoyourgut.com/heal-your-symptoms.html

Jini, your protocol says to continue the injections four times a day until the infection is gone. This may be a silly question, but how can you tell that the infection is gone?
Hello Danielle,
The best way to tell if the infection is gone is that the amount of pus should be greatly reduced or it may even be completely gone. Please let us know if you have any further questions. And we would love to hear how it works out for you.

Rachel, Thank you for your reply! We have been doing Jini’s protocol with undiluted super strength oreganol. My husband has an abscess that turned into a fistula before we began her protocol. We have been able to completely heal the original abscess, but are now trying to heal a deeper infection that seems to be in the fistula. However, the injections seem to be going deeper now – into the fistula (there is no tube – just a slit from when they cut open his abscess) and it appears that the oil is getting trapped inside the fistula and swelling. Any suggestions about something we could do differently? We are beginning the process of changing his diet and buying ingredients for one of the more intensive injection solutions. We are currently injecting four times a day.
Hi Danielle,
First of all, we’re very happy to hear that the original abscess has healed! If you’re doing just the wild oregano and not achieving the results that you’re looking for with the infection then you may want to try the laser treatment or the more potent protocol formulas listed above. We wish you and your husband all the best on your healing journey together and would love to hear how it works out.
Kind regards,
Justin

Hi Justin, I am Danielle’s husband. Do you have any suggestions on how to inject a DMSO solution into an incision of an abscess/fistula (with no tube)?
We have started using the ‘more potent’ formula above. We have purchased the ebooks and educated ourselves with the concerns around using DMSO.
We have been using a plastic curved tip dental syringe with the just the pure oregano oil and that has been working well to get the oil into the fistula directly through a narrow incision in the skin. The fact that the tip on the syringe is small/narrow assists with easy penetration (through the surgical incision) and the fact that it is curved assists with achieving the proper angle for dispensing into the fistula.
It has been difficult to figure out how to get a similar syringe product out of a glass syringe. I’ve been reading about lock luers, gauges on the lock luers, and needles. Long story short I am in over my head. Even more so, it seems impossible to find a stainless steel blunt needle that is curved, or any type of curved tip for a glass syringe.
Obviously we need something that is safe to use with DMSO. Any help or suggestions you have would be great. Do you sell something that fits what I need?
Hello Danielle,
As Jini mentioned in her comment above dated April 2, 2012, “It’s fine to use the plastic syringe for the few seconds it takes to syringe. You’re not supposed to use plastic with essential oils either, but for brief syringing it’s fine.”

Cris

Thanks so much! One last question. We think that the infection is gone from a perinatal abscess that turned into a fistula and are starting the ten day twice a day regimine. However, the incision point where we’ve been injecting is closing up. Should we switch to injecting rectally fkr the remainder of the ten days or just proceed to the topical application three times a day? We are doing the oral regimine with probiotics and a mostly liquid diet as well.
Hi Danielle,
Actually, you can try either injecting it rectally and applying it externally until you are absolutely sure it is gone.

hi There. In Oct 2016 i had my first surgery to release an incredibly deep abscess in the perianal area. I went back into Surgeons office 5 times over next 4 mths to keep it open.. Nurses came daily and packed me. Very painful.. Finally Surgeon said too complicated, sent me to new surgeon who operated and put in 2 seaton bands in May… He said definitely complicated and will operate again in early Aug. Says will either do plugs (50% success rate) or LIFT procedure (70% success rate). Can’t decide until he goes in.. If neither work he says he needs to cut part of bowel muscle and I will need colostomy BAG for rest of my life. I’m showering 3 times a day to keep area nice and clean and taking 1 capsule daily of Natural Factors Oil of Oregano (min 80% carvacrol). My doctors are telling me to NOT put any type of solution directly into the opening w the Seaton Band. What else can i do… Very very nervous & my wife says she will not be able to apply anything…thkyou jeff
Hi Jeff,
We cannot advise you directly as we are not medical professionals but the best information we have regarding healing perianal abscesses naturally is contained in the blog post above. If you are interested in trying any of the protocols you should definitely review them with your doctors to see if they are suitable for your specific condition.

Hey, is there a way I can know that you have repplied to my question? Sometimes I cannot find my question, if I get a notification via email, it will always take me to the comments section in 2008. My question is, will my fistula close on it’s own with using the oil of oregano injection protocol? I have minimal puss from my fistula, but I can feel a small pocket of hardened abcess near the fistual site still. Overall pretty tiny. When I used the DMSO formula I had bleeding and almost like it turned the fistula into a cut. It seemed sealed over for a couple days, but once it healed from the DMSO injection the fistula became open again. In a way, if something causes and irritation in the tract, then that could mean it could close up…just wish it would happen permanently. Wish I had some doctor that cared enough to have the time to answer all of my questions and guide me…yet I have talked to no one that seems to care enough. Just hope I can heal it, before having to resort to surgery.
Hi Julia,
Bookmark this page and come back after a few days to check for a response. You can try Laser Therapy to speed fistula healing. You simply place the infrared laser over the fistula hole – get it as close to the skin as you can – and shine the infrared light on it for 10 minutes, once per day. Or try a more potent syringing formula:
10 ml (2 tsp.) George’s Aloe Vera Juice
10 ml (2 tsp.) 99% DMSO
5 ml (1 tsp.) potassium iodide (SSKI)
10 ml (2 tsp.) colloidal silver (minimum 22 ppm)
15 ml (3 tsp.) wild oregano oil
Throughout this whole regimen, continue with the oral wild oregano oil and probiotics, as described in Jini’s Healing Guide: Natural Treatments for Gut Infection.
Make sure to read Jini’s eBook on Natural Treatments for Anal Stenosis and Stricture for a full description of each of these ingredients, how to mix, how to apply it, safety guidelines, etc.
We wish you all the best!

Thank you Cris for the repply. I bought the second book, although the first one you just mentioned, I could buy also. Hopefully the frequency of use for products can be clarified. I know naturopaths recommend not to take oil of oregano as a supplement for beyond 14 days as it kills all the bacteria. Although I suppose to counteract, always using friendly bacteria at the same time could balance it out. These products are expensive, and I have had my issue for over a year now…so I am assuming we are just suppose to do it all indefinitely until there is a positive and lasting change…Thanks, it means so much to me to have a repply.

Hello,
I am researching this on behalf of my wife. We have tried the oregano oil protocol in the past with no luck in addition to the SCD diet. I am eager to try the newer method with the DMSO. My question is her doctor tells her that she needs to get her Chrons under control via medication before her body will heal the fistulas. My question is will this method be a waste of time since she is still trying different medications and dosing?
Hello Ryan,
Just like Jini had mentioned in the article “The current medical treatment for fistula involves oral drug antibiotics and it’s difficult to get antibiotics to the actual infection site”. So, the good thing about this alternative is that it delivers the powerful natural antibiotic directly to the site.
Jini was diagnosed with widespread Crohn’s disease. She did everything what the doctors told her, until she realized that traditional medical protocols didn’t work. Jini spent the next seven years discovering how to heal herself – by listening to her gut. Jini have been drug and surgery-free for over 20 years, using the natural methods she developed. Although her protocols work well for a large number of people, note that everyone experiences identical results as everyone is dealing with a unique blend of health challenges.

Hi guys, i have been through my worst nightmare when diagnosed with fitsula in ano. Gone through many blogs to read about home remedy as i was not comfortable getting operated, after learning that it cannot be fully treated and has more than 80% recurrence. I have tried many remedies including sitz bath, glycerine, essential oil, antibiotics and pain killers. I was giving up but something miraculous happen, my dad was diagnosed with herpis and it is very painful, my mom put fresh aloe vera lotion on the herpis and we noticed that his pain was gone in a day and herpis also vanished in couple of days. She used to put fresh aloe vera on the infected area every 5 hours.
Then i researched about aloe vera and understood it is very healthy and we can consume it as well. So from next day, i started applying it on the outside opening which had continuous smell, some blood and pus after cleaning the area. I realised i had less pain and that bad smell was gone, then from that day i started cutting the fresh aloe vera leaves from my garden and take out the pulp from it. I inserted that white jelly pulp in my ass using my fingers, and to my surprise it healed my pain in a day.
I started putting that inside and outside everyday after every motion. And in just 5 days my pain and swelling and blood and pus all gone. It completely healed.
I thought of sharing it here as these blogs helped me during my tough times and now i am healed and have no pain or opening inside or outside. This is safe and you also can do little research about fresh aloe vera leaves.

Many a times unless we suffer from a certain diseases we never get an idea of that disease. And even if we get through that symptom sometimes we don’t understand through which phase of diseases we are suffering from. Similarly, Anal Fistula (Bhagandar) is one of the ailments that most of the people suffer from but are not aware.
Thanks for the information. i found it really helpful.
It should be shared so that someone in need can be helped out.
Hi,
I’ve started the oregano oil only protocol to heal a 2 year opened anal fistula. I saw a nice evolution for the fist 3 days of treatment. A little evolution only for the 7 days after. So that’s where I’m at right now.
Just wondering how long does it usually take for a complete healing? I wouln’t want to continue a treatment for longer than necessary, and therefore knowing an average delay would give me an idea.
Thank you so much for your help!
Josie
Hi Josie,
Thank you for contacting us. People generally see results in 2 weeks, sometimes more than that. So far, people have reported good results with 20% DMSO. If this formula is not strong enough, then increase the wild oregano to 3 tsp. and decrease the aloe vera to 2 tsp. Please see formula B above.
Also best if you take the oregano orally and the duration for this Protocol is about 3 weeks – but you may have to cycle on and off it – with breaks in between – until you’re clear of symptoms (but you MUST combine with high dose probiotics).
Kind Regards,
Cris B

Hi everyone. I just got MRI scan test.
I’m worried about the results.
The length of about 2 inches circular thickening of gut
wall with narrowed path is noticed. It is located in ileo-colo.
Some minor stenosis were noticed too…
I don’t have any pain for 2 years since surgery.
I stopped taking imuran on my own 1,4 years ago.
I’m just careful on what I eat and drink. I feel like i don’t have crohn’s.
I’m a bit anemic so I ordered angstrom minerals iron+vitamin c.
I’m just worried that the pain might start manifesting
since I saw this MRI scan test result.
Is there a solution or cure for this thickening and gut narrowness?
P.S. (English not my native language)
This is the best and useful information to us. I got it from this category, it very help us. You made a good site and giving us such a great tips and instructions they very nice. Thanks for sharing the best information with us.
I tried this on my golf ball sized perianal abscess that is still enclosed and it just got worse! The wild oil of oregano even mixed with olive oil just ended up BURNING and irritating the perianal abscess! It did not even help but made it far worse. Why?
Unfortunately, it looks like surgery is the only solution at this point. This is the second one I had another 3 years ago that was removed via surgery and healed up fine.
I have been suffering with a fissure/Perianal abscess/fistula for several months now. When I went to the gastroenterologist, they sent me home with nifedipine/lido ointment that did nothing. And scheduled a colonoscopy. I was in terrible pain at the time and could not imagine being ripped open even more by this procedure. So I started the oregano oil/ colloidal silver/sski iodine/DMSO protocol. Instead of adding the oregano oil to the other three ingredients. I took turns between the oregano oil and the silver/ DMSO/ SSKI mix because it was more convenient. I feel that I am on the mend but still have drainage once a week. But it is becoming less and less. I am pretty much pain-free as well.
Hi Gwen,

I went to my local er with horrible pain. I didn’t know it at the time but I had a fever of 104. The doctor told me I had an abscess and needed surgery but he didn’t feel like doing it and sent me home with the fever.
The next day I called my doctor and told him what was going on. He immediately sent me to a colorectal surgeon. She numbed me up and started cutting and I felt everything. I was screaming and came very close to fainting. It was done… Or so I thought.
That night I woke up to a tugging sensation. I figured since I was just cut it was normal. I took some Advil and went back to bed. In the morning, I had realize the abscess had refilled. It was twice the size as my first one and my entire hip hurt. I couldn’t walk and was not comfortable in my own skin. I called the surgeon. She told me to go to the er she works out of. I took an Advil or three and called a cab. I felt every pebble and pot hole on the way to the hospital. The pain was a 10. I felt sick to my stomach. The hospital was over filled and I asked for a bed because sitting wasn’t an option. So they gave me a hard chair. It was a blessing that I took the Advil before leaving. 5 hours went by and not a single person even acknowledged my presents. At this point, the Advil wasn’t working any longer and sitting in that chair was not an option. I got up and walked out. I called a cab and the cab ride was even more painful getting home. By the time I walked in, I was literally crying in pain. I barely made it to my bed and my daughter got me a heating pad. I laid down on my side and tried to sleep. That wasn’t happening. Every time I dozed off, I turned and the heart stopping pain woke me up. It was torture. This abscess was the size of a handball. At 6am, I got up to urinate and I couldn’t even sit to do so. I had to squat. I felt a quick stab and didn’t think anything of it. when I went to wash my hands, I noticed blood all over the floor and toilet seat. I didn’t know what was going on, but it looked like a crime scene. I screamed. My daughter and my mother both came running. I laid down and they both started cleaning up. My mom came over to me and said there was a rock of pus on the floor so she assumed it ruptured. She looks and sure enough it did. So I thought my nightmare was over… It wasnt.
This continuously went on for a year. Refill, pain, rupture. I was reading a lot and knew I had a fistula. I went back to the surgeon and she confirmed it. She said I needed seton placement and a fistulotomy. She warned me of the risks of a fistulotomy and warned me that it is extremely painful. Considering the anesthesia didn’t work on me the first time, I was absolutely terrified. I was so scared that I would have panic attacks thinking about these surgeries….
I tried countless other remedies and none helped. I read manuka honey works. I spent hundreds on manuka and used it for 4 months. Nothing. Still refilled and ruptured.
Then I came across this site. I was at my last straw. I was so disheartened by other things I tried that I figured surgeries were inevitable. I read about the laser light and the wild oregano oil with olive oil mixture. I figured I had nothing to lose at this point…
I injected the mixture right into the fistula. At first what was coming out was bloody and dirty. Then little by little it got cleaner and cleaner. I used the laser as directed… It took some time but not only is my fistula gone, but no scarring!! Literally!! Even the incision mark is gone. Not a trace. It is completely healed.
Thank you so much! Your site is a godsend to those in need. I thought I was going to have a nervous breakdown but you saved me! I cannot thank you enough!!
I am stunned, truly stunned but listen to your gut is 100% spot on! I recommend it to anyone. You have nothing to lose. Less risk than surgery and no scars. What could be better?!
Wow, Thank you for your feedback! We really appreciate the update and we’re glad to hear that you experienced positive results using Jini’s Fistula Protocol. Thanks again for sharing!

Hello!
I was just had a large perianal abscess rupture 2 days ago. It was my first time to ever experience this & it was excruciating. I’ve already been using Jini’s fissureheal suppositories and taking wild oregano oil orally, and now I have a few questions:
Do I continue using fissure heal while trying to treat the abscess with oregano oil injections, or do I begin them again after the abscess is healed?
Does a ruptured perianal abscess mean I now have a fistula?
I’m so thankful I found this website and Jini’s treasure trove of life experience!!
Wao thanks for such a nice post
Hi Jini, thank you for this post and all the knowledge and wisdom you share!
i would like to start the wild oregano fistula protocol for an old perennial fistula with a seton and a recently developed tiny fistula diverting from the main one . but i have a question about doing this protocol with fisulas that are not recent- i have a seton keeping my perennial fistula open which was put in a year and a half ago. i have had two replacement setons in this time. and so i expect that the fistula tract is kind of ‘tough’ or scar tissue. during the protocol, would you recommend me to take my seton out myself by cutting it, to allow the fistula to heal? i am a bit nervous about doing this because i want to avoid having to have it put back in again at hospital. i wondered if it is possible to do the protocol to get rid of infection, but then to leave the seton in? or does that not make much sense? do you think my fistula has much chance of healing if it is already an ‘old’ fistula tract ?
thank you so much. i am really appreciative of everything you do, it has helped me so much.
Hi A,
You can syringe the wild oregano up through the seton but just like what Jini said above, we can’t advise you on whether to remove the seton or not. Please go through the comments above if you haven’t already.

Hello! I read that your ratios for syringing are meant for already diluted oil. I have a high-quality wild oregano essential oil and was wondering if I could safely syringe with that (in a vaginal fistula) if I dilute it properly. If so, what ratio would you recommend?
May I dilute with castor oil instead of olive?
Thank you!
Hi Emily,
Thank you for contacting us here. Correct! In Jini’s protocols, she’s not talking about the pure, essential oil of oregano (which should never be used directly on skin, or internally). She is talking about commercial brands of wild oregano that are already mixed with olive oil. The Joy of the Mountains product uses a 3:1 dilution so that one is 25% wild oregano oil and 75% olive oil. We do not recommend using other brand but if you want to use your Oregano then start at a 7:1 dilution, so you need to add 7 drops organic olive oil to every 1 drop of pure wild oregano oil.

Hi,
In your blog you write dat people syringe info there rectum. Can I use de dmso solution for this purpose. I wonder because of the capability of dmso to transport almost anything through celmembrame
Greetings Jan.
Hello Jan,
Yes, We have started testing this turbo-charged, powerful formula to heal fistulas or abscesses. But these are experimental and you need to be educated about DMSO in order to use it safely so you MUST read Jini’s eBook on Natural Treatments for Anal Stenosis and Stricture for a full description of each of these ingredients, how to mix, how to apply it, safety guidelines, etc. before beginning treatment.
Best,

Jan, Can you please share how the DSMO mixture in the anus worked for you? If you did this can you tell me how often you syringed Jinis stricure heal formula, how many times a day for how long. I am trying to heal a recto vagainal fistula.
Thanks Linda in Sedona
My fistula has existed for over a year and is not caused by an abscess. I had ulcerative colitis and had surgery to remove the colon and create a J Pouch.
I wonder if fistulas are able to heal when they are not a fresh wound? Will the body allow the tissues to heal and close the fistula tract if the protocols are done? Just wondering if people experience good results on old tissue or does there need to be a fresh wound to activate the body’s healing process.
Hello Brian,
I wish I had a better answer for that part of the question but we’re not health professionals and unable to give any advice to you. Jini’s suggestion is to try and experiment however you wish. She also recommend strengthening your intuition to ascertain whether you are on the right track for your unique body. Please check through these articles below on how to get in dialogue with your body.

I am using Syringing Formula A but have reduced the wild oregano oil to only 5 ml.
I syringe into the fistula which is next to my anus but sometimes I can’t get it in the fistula so have syringed into my anus instead.
Do others experience a sting or burn feeling inside and outside the anal area for about 30 minutes after syringing? I am using Joy of the Mountains oregano.
My understanding of oregano is that it is good for the tissues and the sting feeling is just a temporary symptom. Is that correct?
Hi Brian,
It maybe because of the Oregano (which normally causes burning sensation) or the DMSO, so try to experiment and maybe increase the amount of Aloe Vera Juice as it counters the “sting” of potassium iodide and any irritation from DMSO.
Hope this helps!

Hi – first time on the blog. Just after a little support, encouragement and feedback.
Long time sufferer of anal fistula = 10+ years – after a perianal abscess.
Have tried all the natural treatments for this condition that I can find. I am currently seeing a homoeopath who has helped to keep me “functional” and the pain just bearable – though for the last 2 years I have had to cut down my work to only x2/days per week. And some weeks I cannot even manage that!
I have read every blog entry and downloaded several of Jini’s ebooks. Thanks to Jini and team for supplying such a wealth of information.
Found the site by accident after this recent flare up of haemorrhoids and fistula pain (the worst ever) – didn’t think I was going to make it. In desperation I somehow managed to get myself to a health food store to get aloe vera, colloidal silver, probiotics, oregano capsules and liquid – also found a supplier of DMSO on line here in Australia.
I started taking the oregano capsules 2×5/day, probiotics at night and syringing every 2 hours oregano/olive oil (1:7 ratio) – also put the o/o mix topically over the fistula area and haemorrhoids.
Initially the fistula was closed but after a few days of the above protocol, it opened and let out some clear liquid – arrh some relief. Several days later continuing the above, the fistula tract started to let out what I think was faecal matter and the pain of haemorrhoids started to subside. I read and read and searched info on DMSO (as recommended to do) as I was very scared to start using it.
I checked the ingredients of the aloe vera I had purchased and although it was 99.9% pure – it did have some preservatives (for stability) and citric acid. I am too anxious to mix it with the DMSO – so have just started to drink some each morning. Also cannot get the correct iodine without a scrip here in Australia. Lugol’s I have purchased but again after reading through the blog – it is not the same as in the protocol ad hence to nervous to use it with the DMSO.
I am on my own and have had a few goes at trying to get the o/o mix into the fistula tract but cannot – just makes a mess – so continuing with it up the butt hole.
I started to think how can I implement the DMSO into the regime without the correct aloe and iodine?
I have made a mix of DMSO, oregano, colloidal silver and olive oil (keeping the ratio of DMSO at 20%) and have tried it topically = although it separates – I give it a good shake and just used my clean finger to apply. No problem. I have also tried omitting the olive oil – keeping the DMSO at 20% – but this burns. (Yes it happened to me Brian – just using it topically). Hence I am scare to try using something with DMSO in it up my backside.
Another mix I have been syringing is oregano oil/olive oil (1:6 ratio) with some organic turmeric powder. This has felt pretty good – I want to add the DMSO to this – but I don’t know if that is ok or not???
I have had a good feel of what is going on and it feels like I have an infection (the old abscess?) under my perineum with the tract leading to the right side of my butt next to my anus.
I know no one can give me medical advice but I would be so grateful to hear of others experiences in a similar situation. Even some encouragement to let me know I am on the right path. This I feel is my last hope.
Hi Vincent,
Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience with us. It can take time and very specific treatment to fully heal again but it sounds like you are taking some great steps to heal so far. Jini does not recommend using other brands, but she also encourage her readers to experiment – That’s one reason why Jini called the program “Listen to Your Gut”… Each individual needs to find his or her own way to heal. What matters is this unwavering faith and commitment you’ve shown to your whole-body health.
Jini also encourage you to delve into the emotional/spiritual aspects too (if you haven’t already) as this is crucial for long-term, complete healing. Link below:
https://blog.listentoyourgut.com/free-audio-healing-session-for-rectal-issues/
For Turmeric, in normal people they are great! For the highly sensitized IBD gut, not so much, according to Jini. So she recommend you test a little bit of turmeric (start with 1/8-1/4 tsp) and see how your body does – but follow the guidelines for testing new supplements. See if your body likes it.
We really appreciate the updates and we hope you find healing soon. Thanks so much for sharing and we’re looking forward to hearing more about your progress!
Kind Regards,
Cris B

Question: How many times a day can I syringe the Stricture heal in my anus and vagaina? Should I be doing it more than twice a day in the beginning? I am starting with the Formula A, but I added additional teaspoon of Aloe Vera to cool it down.
I have a rectovaginal fistula and I have a blocked intestine from scar tissue. My problem is I don’t know where the RV fistula track is, I have stool coming out my vagina, but doctors can not find the track. So I am “All In” for starting this protocol with an elemental diet. I will also be doing the ORAL Stricture heal twice a day.
I have purchased the Vetrolaser and my plan is when I feel my RV fistula infection is clear I will be using the vertrolaser to try and seal the fistula on the external areas of I feel pressure around my perineum. In the mean time I will use the laser on my abdomen to try to break down the scare tissue.
Im just not sure how often to syringe with the Stricture heal?
Hi Linda,
Thanks for contacting us here. Jini recommend to start once a day and see how your body tolerates the formula and when you feel you can tolerate more than one application, then feel free to increase to twice a day. As always, Listen to your Gut.

nice article. Information you provide it’s very helpful to Fistula patients
I was diagnosed after 1 whole year and 1/2 with Crohn colitis disease. I was healed #1 by my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ as he said he was going to heal me. I took a leap of faith and believed first by stopping my monthly CimZia injections and second by doing lots of research. This happened all in 2008, I was diagnosed in 2009 and was on medications until January 2015. Jini Patel, her book, website, and people who work for her all added to my knowledge and helped profoundly. I am very grateful for all the information I obtained from them. God puts people in your life to help you see clearer and to help you.
Hi Sindy. Thank you so much for your kind words, and I am so happy that you found support through the information Jini has provided. =) In good health!
Hi Jini-
I just had my second VAAFT surgery for a perianal fistula. I am concerned that the 2nd surgery won’t work either because I had it a month ago and I am still having stool and gas come through the fistula opening. I don’t see how it can heal properly when it is constantly being infected.
Is it safe to use your protocol (The DMSO/Oregano/SSKI) after VAAFT surgery?
Thank you.
Hi Ashley. I am sorry, but we cannot possibly advise you on this. Only your doctor and the surgeon would have a better idea than yourself what is actually going on with your situation. I can advise you to go through this blog post and read through all the comments from other people, and then tune in to your own body and see what it has to say. Remember, these protocols are experimental – so each of us has to tune into our own body and listen to our body’s wisdom and then proceed accordingly. We also have to realize that we are experimenting, we are testing, and to be ready to change or discontinue as required.
I’m grateful for all the tips I’ve learned from Jini’s site. I shared some with a cousin just recently
I am grateful to share also that I just had Kshar Sutra treatment for anal fistula with a skilled Dr in India
Grateful to start living a more normal life again!
I will continue to use Jini’s tips on constipation to keep the area healthy.
Hi Amisha. That is great news! Thanks so much for sharing. =)
Have you visited Jini’s Home Remedy page for constipation? You can find it here: https://listentoyourgut.com/constipation/
Hi Jini,
I’ve been reading many posts on your blog and comments, as well. I’m wondering how often to apply the dmso/silver/oregano/aloe/iodide combo for a possible fistula – maybe fissure – I honestly am not sure? Thank you.
Hi CC, thanks for reaching out! As you may have read in this blog post, Jini strongly advises to read her eBook on Natural Treatments for Anal Stenosis and Stricture for a full description of each of these ingredients, how to mix, how to apply it, safety guidelines, etc. before beginning treatment.
You can get the eBook and formula ingredients here: https://shoppe.listentoyourgut.com/shop-by-strictureheal/
Do NOT attempt these DMSO-based formulas without reading the eBook, or doing extensive research on DMSO first! Also, do not use brands other than the ones Jini recommends. If you don’t want to buy online, just copy down the brand names and get your local health store to order them in for you.
I also recommend visiting Jini’s Heal Your Symptoms section: https://listentoyourgut.com/heal-your-symptoms/
There you can select a home remedy for Fistula – rectal, Fistula – rectovaginal, Anal Fissures, as well as many others. I hope this helps!
Yes, I have read the book and many many things on the site. I know the oregano/olive oil mixture is every 2 hours to begin. Just curious if DMSO mixture is same, every 2 hours to begin? Also, if taken internally what dose/mixture is recommend and how often? I didn’t see that anywhere but have read it in comments.
Hi CC, for internal/oral dosage, you follow the formula and frequency in the Intestinal StrictureHeal ebook.
For syringing a wild oregano/dmso mixture… again, this is experimental and I have not tested this myself. But I know from doing my Rectal StrictureHeal formula (20% DMSO) that once per day was enough and sometimes I had to take a break for a day or two due to tissue aggravation. So if you’re going to try that, please stay really attuned to your fistula and your body/gut wisdom. And then please report back here with what you learned so the rest of us can benefit from your journey xo
Hi Jini,
I’ve read most of the comments on this blog post and read your home remedy articles for Rectal Fistulae and Rectovaginal Fistulae, but I haven’t seen you mention anything about healing intestinal fistulae. Not an intestinal stricture, but a fistula. I have a fistula in my small intestine with a tract that leads up to the surface near my pubic bone. It’s obviously not visible because it’s in my intestine, so I can’t syringe it or follow the same protocols you’ve recommended for other types of fistulae. There is no infection in the area – the only drainage that comes out on the surface is whatever tiny bit of fluid is passing through my intestinal tract and leaks into the fistula.
I’ve had great success with some of your other remedies (for other Crohn’s issues), so I’m wondering if any of your remedies can be used for an intestinal fistula?
Thank you!
Hi Annette, it’s totally experimental, but I wonder if the protocol for Intestinal StrictureHeal would be helpful…?
Check it out and see what your gut says:
https://blog.listentoyourgut.com/natural-healing-remedy-for-intestinal-strictures/
And it you decide to try it, please let us know your results! All the best 🙂
Hi Jini,
Thank you very much for helping my husband to keep under control his Crohn’s Disease. He hed great success with all the protocol he tried. He got rid of a very bad rectal infection using your Natural Remedy for Rectal Infection plus Jini’s wild Oregano protocol. There is not infection anymore. But that infection left him with an Simple Transsphincteric anal fistula associated with a right perianal abscess, this vas the diagnosis from a MRI. I tried to siringy Formula A from Wild Oregano Syrining Protocol but I can not reach the entrance of the Absces which is inside the anus, I tried to opened it and siringy but I think it does not go inside the abscess. When he press on the area of abscess there is some pus coming out in the beginning and after a pinkish color liquid. He press the area each time bifore i siringy Formula A. He is also on Jini’s Wild Oregano Protocol orally, 10 drops of WOO 4 times a day.
He is not on any medication for Crohn’s Disease, he is on half Elemental Diet plus all the supplements.
The GI is pushing him to go and have it drained. But we are not sure if it is a good idea, we want to do it naturally but the big problem is reaching the abscess and siringy it.
Can you please help us here, how we can reach the abscess and siringy it? Is it a good idea to go and drained it manually?
Thank you very much for all your hard work to help people.
Mariana
Hi Mari. Fantastic to hear your husband’s infection is gone!! Well done!
Regarding the abscess…of course we cannot give any medical advice or recommendation on whether to drain it or not. That being said, perhaps you can get a longer syringe, perhaps a dental syringe? That can reach the actual site of the abscess. Please keep us updated!
Hi,
looks like the abscess does not have to much drainage, my husbands has to press the abscess for the discharge to come out from the abscess. If he does not press it it will not drain. The discharge which came out is almost like water in color, slightly pinkish. Is it a sigh that it is healing? Is it bad to press an abscess, to drain it?
Thank you,
Mari
