This is a video of a presentation I gave to health store owners at the CHFA West conference about how to help clients who walk in with gut disorders. In it, I talk about the most effective supplements for IBD/IBS, Crohn’s and colitis – and tips and tricks on how to use them.
If you want to skip most of my story and get straight to the supplement info, then start watching at 9:08 minutes.
For those of you who have my Listen To Your Gut book – this video serves as a nice recap that will help you pull the 500 pages of info together! If you do not have the book, you can download the first Chapter as well.
You can also get a free eBook with in-depth info/guidelines about probiotics HERE, and a free eBook with lots of info/dosing for wild oregano oil HERE.

Hi Jini,
Great video on supplements. As you probably remember, years ago I took too much of a “multiple specie” probiotic and got very sick for months. Since then I’ve been unable to take any amount or type of probiotic. I did however work up the courage to start again. I’m now taking the tiniest pinch of the baby bifidum from Natren every few days with food. I still get a mild reaction but I’m hopeful I can get through them and eventually take a pinch every day. Who knows maybe by the end of the year I’ll have a whole capsule in my system, haha. Something interesting I’ve noticed is how much cumin, ginger and turmeric “stirs” up my gut flora and flares me up just like probiotics do. I have a feeling that this issue will go away once I can tolerate higher doses of probiotics.

Hi Caroline,
Thanks for taking the time to drop by and share your update! We’d definitely love to hear how your probiotic experiment ends up working out. When you’ve experienced the issues with probiotics, were you using wild oregano oil as well?

Hi this video was really informative. Firstly can I buy your book in paperback and have it shipped to uk? Next question, can all these products be shipped to uk without restrictions? I ordered five tubs of absorb plus for my son two years ago and it was destroyed at customs as I didn’t realise at the time because it had milk product in it you can only bring in 2kg each shipment. This with the p&p has meant I cannot afford to get it for my son and after just one tub one time he had thicker stools. Can you give any advise to uk residents if we can get your product from nearer to home to make it more economically viable or do you know of similar products to use. Please help we are desperate to get our son healed as all heavy drugs by medical professionals have not helped. His diagnosis is the same as yours was jini, he is only fifteen and it is wrecking his life.
Hi Lesley,
We’re glad to hear that you enjoyed the video. To answer your questions:
1. Yes, we can ship the book to the UK but we also have it available in eBook form if you want to avoid shipping charges entirely. You can check out all of the books and eBooks we have available at this link:
http://shoppe.listentoyourgut.com/books-and-ebooks/
2. We generally don’t have any customs issues with shipping any of our products to the UK except for those containing whey protein due to UK customs regulations. The standard maximum is two (2) 1 kg Absorb Plus tubs per order. However, we have a number of customers who have obtained an import license and who are, in turn, able to order many more tubs at once. We have a step by step procedure at the link below if you are interested in this process:

3. If shipping items from the US isn’t going to work for you from a financial standpoint, here are some links to resources which might be useful:

Caroline – I know ginger and turmeric are really pushed for gut issues and inflammation, but I agree, people with IBD need to test small amounts carefully first and see how they respond!
I’m trying to find out if you can do the Candida protocol you have on this site during phase 1 of the regular Woo protocol. Also, can you take the Mucosaheal with the Woo & how long before or after can you take the Mucosaheal & probiotics?
Hi Sandra,
The short answer is yes, you can do the candida protocol at the same time as phase 1 of the WOO protocol but they have a lot in common in terms of wild oregano oil and probiotic consumption so you should probably just take the greater amount of the two protocols if you want to do them together. Regarding MucosaHeal, WOO, and probiotics, check out the post below where Jini talks about juggling various supplements:

If you have any additional questions please don’t hesitate to ask.

I am about to start the WOO protocol. I have no symptoms of UC currently (no diarrhea, no blood in stools), but only some gas & bloating which I try to control with my diet and portion control. But I believe I still need to do the WOO protocol and I feel that will also help with the gas & bloating. There are 3 phases to this protocol…
Based on the fact that I have no imminent symptoms of UC I am going to start this protocol at Phase 2 and was wondering if anyone here has experience with skipping phase 1 of the protocol
Hi Purvi,
Since you would be considered a mild case at this point, starting at phase 2 sounds like the best way to go for a little while and then you can just transition to phase 3 as soon as you feel that the time is right, based on what your body is telling you. Let us know how it works out!

Why is it necessary to take the probiotics with filtered water? And just what qualifies as filtered water?
Hi Purvi,
Jini recommends using filtered water versus tap water because it should have less contaminants. Filtered water would be anything that has run through a filter which removes contaminants such as the pitcher-style filters or the more expensive filters which can be installed under the sink. Bottled water would also work.

Thanks for that justification about filtered water, it makes sense.
Got one more question.
For phase 2 of the protocol, I am taking wild oregano oil 5 drops in morning and natren trinity 1 capsule at night. I re read the section in the book and realize that I should be taking probiotics 2 times a day. When can I take first probiotic in the day? How many hours should it be apart from the wild oregano oil?
Hi Purvi,
Probiotics should be taken at least 2 hours away from wild oregano oil for maximum effectiveness. For more details, check out this blog post that Jini wrote about juggling various supplements:

So I started phase 2 of the protocol, but took only probiotics for 1st 2 days while waiting for my WOO to arrive. I felt so good, stools were nice and formed, stomach was not bloated and full. Then I started WOO and probiotics twice a day. After about 10 days into he regimen, my bowel movements are not satisfying and emptying, my tummy feels bloated. Almost feels like the phase where my UC was about to start and relapse 4 months back. Is this normal? Are these pathogens dying off and causing the effects. Can’t tell for sure. Any insights would help. I am not taking any other supplements besides these 2 right now.
Hi Purvi,
What you’re describing sounds like a die off effect and it would make sense if it started happening upon adding WOO to your regimen. If the same situation persists after 3-4 weeks into the protocol you may want to consider switching the WOO to olive leaf extract as it’s possible that the WOO might be a little too harsh for you. It’s not an uncommon situation; we have a (relatively small) number of customers who have informed us that they cannot tolerate WOO very well but for whom the olive leaf extract works well. Thanks for sharing and we look forward to hearing more about your progress.
Kind regards,
Justin

Just dropping a note to say that the WOO and probiotic part of the protocol is working well for me. No bloating, my bowel movements are off sometimes in the sense I do see not very well-formed stool once in a well or 10 days but I think it’s because I slacked on something else like missed a dose of probiotic or had too much to eat (I have realized I tolerate small quantities more often much better). But overall my spirits are better, my skin that looked dry and parched feels better.
I now want to go explore other supplements because I am pretty sure I am low on iron, vitamin D etc, but trying to introduce new things slowly so I can gauge the effect and changes better
I know thank you is just not enough of a word to express my gratitude for the research, for publishing the material, for answering questions patiently. God bless you all!
Hi Purvi,
Thanks so much for the update. We’re very happy to hear that Jini’s wild oregano protocol is working well for you! All the best and if you ever have any questions or concerns please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Can you incorporate this shake while being able to eat food? for extra nourishment, maybe 1 shake a day?
Hi Rick,
Absolutely! That’s what we refer to as a half or partially elemental diet. If you have a list of foods that you are certain that you’re able to tolerate but want to add some healthy calories via shakes then you can certainly do that. For more info, check out the link below:

I have done the WOO + Natren probiotics protocol for 3 months. I recently stopped doing WOO and am seeing some acid reflux/belching/flatulence feeling (all symptoms of low stomach acid). My skin is dry again and hair fall is too much. I also had irregular intake of probiotics for couple weeks since my office was moving and work was stressful.
I am wondering if stopping probiotics or WOO has an effect of lowering stomach acid. Should these be tapered off?
Hi Purvi,
If you’re experiencing acid reflux then you may want to taper down to using just the Megadophilus probiotic and see if that makes a difference. If not, DGL might help as well. Regarding the other symptoms, we aren’t aware of any connection between those and the WOO + probiotics.

Justin

Hello,
I’m a current sufferer of Ulcerative Colitis and I’m currently taking a bunch of supplements that Jini has recommended and I’m slowly seeing improvements. I’m still suffering from diarrhea, and I’m noticing some bile in my stool in certain movements. Just was wondering if anyone has ever experienced similar symptoms, and if anyone knows what might be causing this?
Thank you!
Hello Jenna,
That is good to hear you are starting to see some improvement. We can not comment on the bile in the stool symptom as that is not something we are familiar with, but recommend you ask your doctor concerning it. AS for the diarrhea we can recommend a few options you can try to help that.
The top products Jini recommend for diarrhea are: L-glutamine, bentonite clay and psyllium seed.
You can get more information on these products and to see the ones Jini recommends here:
http://shoppe.listentoyourgut.com/source-naturals-l-glutamine-powder-3-53-oz-100-g/

http://shoppe.listentoyourgut.com/yerba-prima-psyllium-husks-powder-12-oz/
Also if you are taking the probiotics Jini recommends just using the Bifido when having diarrhea issues.
As I am sure you know diet can also play a huge roll in treating diarrhea.
You can find a great summary of all of this information at: http://listentoyourgut.com/symptoms/16/diarrhea.html
