I have acute diverticulitis and do not want sigmoid resection. I am using mucosaheal, oregano oil and vsl3. I would like another probiotic without FOS. I also drink ABSORB plain and eat all soft foods relative to Low Fodmap for SIBO. As a customer of LTYG, I follow many of Jini’s ideas. I will start the castor oil packs to help ease pain. Any advise on probiotics?
Hi Diane,
Thanks for reaching out. Natren is the only brand that Jini recommends and uses through years of research and experience and the only one with all the requirements (probiotic strain selection, manufacturing, storage, and other factors effecting potency and efficacy).
The probiotic sections in Jini’s two books; Listen To Your Gut and Listen To Your IBS are over 30 pages long. This is because people with IBD (and severe IBS) need a good understanding of probiotics before they start dosing for the detailed information on what to look for, how to proceed, etc. We do offer a complimentary Probiotic Report (in the PINK box at the top left side of the page) to get you started in this area of treatment. But for full and complete instructions, you really do need to get one of the books.
Please let me know if you have any additional questions or concerns.

Thanks Cris, since I have diverticulitis, I want to ensure that I am using the right probiotics. I can’t do dairy and I am on a low Fodmap diet. I am using the Mucosaheal, Aloe, Hemorroid sticks and Oregano Oil, plus I drink my plain vanilla Absorb Plus when I need to supplement. I apply heat and cold for inflammation and do liposomal C. I am stablizing my weight 100 pounds; I lost 5 pounds when I had the diverticulitis flare up and was on nasty antibiotics. Btw – do I need to stop after such time with the Oregano oil and then re-start? I plan to purchase Jini’s book and focus on my diet. No inulin. Love the colonic massage; my East Indian grandmother did it on our belly all the time. Thanks.
Hi Diane,
All of Natren’s Dairy Free POWDERS are Vegan; i.e. Megadophilus Dairy Free and Bifido Factor Dairy Free powders. Digesta-Lac Dairy Free is only available in veggie caps, not in powder form.
Jini recommends to stick to only liquid nutrition for the entire duration of your flare-up. For some people, this means three days, for others, it means a few weeks. Since your diverticulitis flare-ups will depend on the severity of your disease, your stress levels, other healing strategies you are using, and your foundational level of health, your healing may be a lot faster – or a lot slower – than someone else’s.
For the Oregano, Jini’s and many of her readers was on this protocol for over 2 years (cycling on and off to get rid of disease causing bacteria, parasites, etc) and more If you have a mycobacterial infection – as they have an inactive/active lifecycle. Again, the combination (and timing) WITH the probiotics is key so it’s important to re-build a healthy gut flora to make yourself strong and resistant to further, secondary or opportunistic infection.

Cris B

Thank you for sharing this important information. Now that I understand that planetarum probiotic is a bit of a fad and how it inhibits multiple bifida strains, I will be returning a probiotic and using the Healthy Trinity alone.
Hi, I have IBD, inflammation in the gut but no bleeding. I started with Natren probiotic and Georges aloe vera juice last night. This morning I took 5 drops of wild oregano oil and mucosa heal. After that along with the absorb plus shake I had coq10 capsule. Since morning I have been feeling nauseous in my stomach/gut area, kinda lost my appetite completely. Any idea why.
Hi Nitin,
Thanks for reaching out. According to Jini some people are highly sensitive to probiotics, so she recommends to start out with small amounts and very gradually build the dose up. Just test each bacteria a little bit (a pinch, or 1/8 tsp) and see how your gut reacts. If you get too much die-off, or nausea, etc. then it’s too soon, or you need to go slower. Everyone’s pace is different, so you need to listen to your own gut.
Nausea may also be a sign of intolerance from the shakes, but some of these reactions also mimic the Herxheimer or Die-Off effect you experience when bad bacteria and yeast are leaving your body – so it may take week or two to be sure which one you are experiencing! Although any swelling of throat, lips, wheezing, or anaphylaxis are due to allergy, not pathogens dying.
Lastly, make sure they’re not interfering with each other. Probiotics needs to be taken completely on its own 2 hours before and after any supplements (best to be taken at night before bed). Oregano and Mucosaheal on empty stomach – 20 mins before food and 2 hours after. Please let me know if you have any additional questions or concerns.

So I have a question and not sure if it belongs here or not but here it goes…..my son’s GI informed us that he may be a carrier for a “bug” (sorry not sure of the name) that effects his stool, when this happens he is placed on high does of antibiotics, he has had to take these antibiotics on 3 different occasions. They say there is no “cure” for this and suggest that he may have to get a procedure done where they put another person’s “healthy stool” into his rectum to return his body to a healthy state. We are not doing this but would LOVE suggestions if you have any on this topic. When he gets sick with this he is weak, dosen’t care to eat, tired etc. Please any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Lisa
Hi Lisa,
Fecal implant has had very high success rates with Clostridium difficile and improve the gut flora and heal the colon. Jini have a teleseminar about that if you want to learn more. Linked below. Also, if you combine the fecal implant with Jini’s gut infection protocol, you may only have to do the fecal infusion once. Otherwise, it usually requires a few implants ongoing for a while.
LTYG Teleseminar – Fecal Infusion Bacteriotherapy with Bianca James (MP3 Audio and PDF Transcript)
In this teleseminar, Jini Patel Thompson interviews Bianca James about working with Dr. Borody and how they came up with the Fecal Infusion protocol.
Bianca provides us with exact details of their original protocol (that Dr. Thomas Borody used to publish his papers).
She also gives detailed instructions on how you can do a Fecal Infusion at home and the precautions you need to take to avoid infection or complications.
For a lot more info about fecal transplant/infusion, check out the blog post at the link below. There’s a free teleseminar there as well that you can listen to:

I absolutely cannot tolerate absorb plus. For some reason, all elemental formulas I have a reaction to. I thought I would fair better with absorb plus, but I don’t. any suggestions?
Hi Antoinette, Sorry to hear about this. What are the reaction(s) after you take the shakes? Some reactions mimic the Herxheimer or Die-Off effect you experience when bad bacteria and yeast are leaving your body. You can learn more about this here: https://blog.listentoyourgut.com/bowel-issues-on-an-elemental-diet/
Your other option, if you cannot tolerate Absorb Plus or the whey protein isolate, is to use a vegan elemental shake. We have put together these Vegan Elemental Diet Kits specifically for that purpose. Click link below to learn more about Vegan Elemental Shakes:

Great article. I just wanted to point out that the SCD diet did indeed include probiotics in the form of the 24-hour incubated yogurt. I got that book, first edition, in the late 80s, when it came out. This was long before the term “probiotics” was used or probably even known of. Of course, oregano oil was not yet discovered in North America at that time.
Can wild oregano oil cause acid reflux ,GERD, or heartburn ?
Hi Yomaira – if you’re taking it orally and it’s a little too “spicy” that may be the issue. You can either dilute it further with organic, cold-pressed olive oil, or you could try ‘chasing’ it with a full glass of water. You could also switch to olive leaf in capsule form or wild oregano oil in gel caps.
Hope this helps!
