If your liver or your lungs need support – perhaps you’ve got a stubborn cough or mucus problem that just won’t go away – you can always use herbal capsules, or tinctures dropped into hot water (my favorite). But you can also use teas made from common grocery ingredients. Here are some easy recipes/teas to detox liver and support lungs – and make sure your ingredients are certified organic!
Note: These teas need to be drunk on an empty stomach because they are medicinal teas.
Liver Detox Tea
- 1 cup hot water
- 1 bag chamomile tea
- 1/4 tsp ground ginger (or 1/2 inch fresh ginger thinly sliced)
- Juice of half a lemon
Let steep for 10 minutes, then add a few drizzles of honey. Drink 1 cup before bed on an empty stomach.
Lung (respiratory) Support Tea
- 1 cup hot water
- 1 bag of green tea
- 1/2 tsp ground ginger (or 1 inch fresh ginger thinly sliced)
- Juice of half a lemon
- 1 mint leaf
- Dash of cayenne pepper
Let steep for 10 minutes, then add a few drizzles of honey or stevia/monk fruit to sweeten. Drink on an empty stomach.
Congestion Tea (clear mucus, phlegm)
- 1 cup hot water
- 1 bag of green tea
- 1/4 tsp ground turmeric
- 1/4 tsp ground thyme
- Juice of half to one-third of a lemon
- 1 mint leaf (tear into pieces)
Let steep for 10 minutes, then add a few drizzles of honey or stevia/monk fruit to sweeten. Drink in the morning on an empty stomach. You can also drink it during the day but on an empty stomach. Congestion is also helped by placing your face under hot water in the shower or applying a hot compress to your sinuses.
