Here’s a little story from Dr. Goldberg for you, to kick off this topic:
“We had a 47-year-old female patient, who following the advice of her Holistic, Functional Gynecologist, had a complete hysterectomy, plus a bilateral mastectomy based only on having the BRCA II gene. This was followed by a year of Diflucan prescribed by a local Naturopath and being placed on Thyroid Replacement Therapy because her T3 level was one point below normal. She now has silicone breast implants to boot. Pretty frightening, all in the name of being ‘natural’. We are increasingly seeing this type of scenario.”
Dr. Paul Goldberg specializes in chronic disease reversal and healed himself of severe rheumatoid arthritis and ulcerative colitis in his twenties. Now in his sixties, he continues to experience robust health, but his daily supplement list consists of nothing more than a multi-vitamin. WHY? Because his daily, normal life supports the innate healing ability of the human body.
We talk about some of these “common sense measures” in this teleseminar. And I have to say, it gave me a tremendous feeling of hope and vision for something I have believed in and promoted for a long time. As Dr. Goldberg says:
“Odd how we are expected to conduct large scale, double-blind, case control studies on the employment of sunlight, fasting, liquid diets, emotional counseling, extended rest and sleep, pulling people off poisonous habits (e.g. drugs, alcohol, tobacco, marijuana, etc.) – what we view as common sense measures. Also, a great deal of time is given to each patient and effort is made to sort out etiological (disease-causing) factors.”
For example, did you know that 1/3 of female patients are on thyroid hormone replacement – without the effort to first find out why the thyroid is unbalanced and employ natural corrective measures – and that it can take as little as 1 year (and as long as 7 years) of even natural or bio-identical thyroid supplementation for your own thyroid gland to atrophy and cease functioning? So how ‘natural’ are bio-identical hormones and dessicated pig thyroid (Armour Thyroid) if they cause your own thyroid gland to cease functioning?
Having done two in-depth teleseminars on balancing hormones, this call really hit home for me in a number of areas – listen in and you’ll find out why and no doubt have a few ‘eureka’ moments yourself! Just click the PLAY button, or download it:
Did you also know that in order to get your Vitamin D from sunlight, you shouldn’t shower for an hour afterwards – your body needs that fatty sweat layer to convert the sunlight to cholecalciferol?
LOTS more gems in this call and hopefully you will feel empowered with renewed faith in the healing ability of your own body.

Such an excellent show. Thanks to the both of you for the enlightenment.
my dad had a bald head and he was happily out in the sun in Maine as a wilderness guide. But as an older man he had many skin cancers removed from his head. How does that work with what you are saying?
Such groundbreaking ideas in such simplicity eh? Glad you enjoyed it!
Hi Ibi:
I am a strong believer in “all good things in moderation”. Note I did not say “all things in moderation” since unhealthy or unethical things such as cruelty, murder, rape, heroin, should not be employed at all…not even in moderation.
Sunlight is under the category of “all good things in moderation” for it is not only one of the foundations of health it is essential for human health just like water or exercise. Like water or exercise, however, too much, even of a good thing, can be hazardous to your health. We would not want to be dropped in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean for then we would drown…but we still need water in moderation. I have seen patients who have damaged health badly by engaging in heavy exercise two to three hours per day every day for years, thus tearing down their bodies faster than their bodies could repair themselves and thus became seriously ill over time…but we still need moderate amounts of regular activity to enjoy good health.
Sunlight in EXCESS, like water or exercise can be damaging. In your Father’s case, there were likely at least two factors at play. First he had no protection on top of his head to protect himself from excessive sunlight. I can relate as I am part of the “bald brotherhood” myself just like my Dad and my Grandfather were! So I do take care to wear a hat now that I am somewhat follicle deprived, when I go outside for long periods in intense sunlight, which I often do.
Secondly, you mention your Father spent a great deal of time in the sun. Thus he received a lot of solar radiation, likely an excessive amount. Most animals do avoid excessive sunlight by getting in the shade during the hours of the day when the sun is most intense.
Lastly (and this I do not know but simply add for the information) your Father may have had less resistance to the sunlight due to his particular biochemistry which is determined not only by our genetics but also by our lifestyle habits such as our diets, sleep habits, drug habits and other factors that influence our biochemistry.
Knowing that your Father had at least the two first factors at play (excessive exposure plus a lack of protection on top of his head), were likely reasons why changes took place in his skin due to ongoing, long term exposure to excessive amounts of solar radiation.
Thank you Ibi for posing a good question!

Incredibly insightful podcast! I especially appreciate Dr. Goldberg’s advice not to over supplement yourself believing it to be the yellow brick road to good health. Instead only use supplements sparingly and temporarily to address an issue BUT combined with the goal of getting to the root cause of your problem. How many health practitioners, whether conventional or naturopathic, would suggest this (although I know Jini has been recommending this for years as well)? I also appreciate the advice not to overfeed oneself, believing that, to not do so, will result in a nutritional deficiency. Eat less (healthfully) and live longer and prosper, great advice!
Thanks again for this Jini! You seem to be the only person (other than Dr. Goldberg and few enlightened others) who truly understands me. This is why I regularly visit your site and follow your advice.
Namaste.

The BEST way to ensure root-level health is to produce your own food. Paying particular attention to soil biology (the microbes in the soil) and mineralization. Raising your own meat or egg animals to give them a GOOD life and their natural diet etc. The closer we can get to this (or purchasing from a local farmer who is of like mind) the less our body will need supplemented nutrients. That’s what I call a win-win!
Great reply by Goldberg saying that even something which is natural can be damaging when in excess like sunlight because it also depends on your own conditions. In tropical countries labour people work all afternoon but they don’t get radiated with solar but their bodies & skin are built that way & like Jini says listen to your gut..it’s also listen to yourself…or see what the animals do in your area& in that situation …
And if you look at what those laborers wear – many/most of them are almost fully covered with light cotton materials, hats, etc. And unless they’re slaves/disenfranchised people, no one works in the heat of the day!
Super informative and educational
– Thank you so much
Great interview! Thank you Jini, for all the important information you provide. You have been so helpful to me in getting my chronic IBD cured.
I found the Goldberg Clinic through your website last September. At the time, I was having a bad flare up that I was unable to manage on my own.
I live in FL, so I drove to GA and met with Dr Tener. At our initial consult(1 hour +), I felt I was in the right place! He asked questions NO OTHER DR EVER ASKED me. He ordered many lab tests, and once results were in, he placed me on a personalized program to include all the things Dr Goldberg spoke about-sleep, sun, food, etc. I was a model patient and did everything asked of me. No, it wasn’t easy, I had to change my lifestyle quite a bit, but I knew I had to do it. After about 60 days the results were awesome! Symptoms were gone and I was feeling better than ever.
It’s almost a year later and I have managed to keep up with my routine pretty well and continue to feel really good. No IBD issues. Much happier and centered overall.
What I learned from those Drs, will stay with me forever and allow me to enjoy my life as I was meant to!
Dr Goldberg and Dr Tener are amazing at what they do. Huge thanks to them and to you Jini.
Hi Jennifer – that is AMAZING to hear!! Thank you so much for sharing! =)
Awesome Jennifer! Can you post any details of your healing protocol? I’d love to know the specifics on how you had to change your lifestyle etc.
Hi Jini,
I was apparently overeating in general (though not overweight) and having too much protein. My body was not processing this properly and was causing fermentation in my gut. Dr Tener asked me to stop eating red meat and pork. I could have only organic chicken, turkey and wild caught fish/shellfish. One serving, every other day. I was used to having protein with every meal. So, I had to add more variety of vegetables more often, to keep things interesting. I am keeping this up and feels great! No to dairy and soy as well. I’ve lost about 14 lbs which put me underweight for awhile, but I’ve since found my ideal weight and am very happy being a size 2-4!
I was a long time marijuana user, and Dr Tener said it was toxic to my body and that I should stop my daily smoking. I also think this contributed to my high Cortisol levels. Was hard at first, but am happy to be free of that now. Much more clear headed these days, and more even keeled.
I was told to have a sunbath daily, starting with 10 min a day and worked up to 30-45 min. I now have a lovely bronze color and really enjoy my sun time! My dog loves to join me as well.
I purchased a book at the Dr’s request and started doing Yoga every morning and sometimes in the evening as well. This has been great for me. Previously, I did weight training, but think I was overdoing it at times. The Yoga has been wonderful for focus, breathing, flexibility and strength. I love it. Also do daily affirmations in the mornings that keep me grateful for all that I am and all that I have.
Epsom Salt bath for 20 min every night before bed.
Bedtime – in bed at 8:30 and lights out by 9:00-9:30 at the latest.
Daily dog walks.
The only supplements I now use daily are a multi vitamin, Vit C and vitamin E capsule.
No longer having migraines and no Crohns symptoms for almost a year! So happy to be feeling so well.
Thanks for letting me share my story❤️
That’s BRILLIANT Jennifer! Your protocol may appear simple to some, but one could write an entire book on the reasons behind each piece of it and why/how they synergistically work together.
I’m curious if you have any more info on the cannabis and cortisol levels? The common belief is that marijuana chills you out and reduces stress levels, so I’d love to know your thoughts or any info on this.
Oh one other thing that would be really helpful to people – could you give us a list of the veggies you eat and how you prepare them? Thanks so much for all your help and encouragement for others here. Feel free to get as detailed as you wish – or perhaps email it to me. This might be super helpful for others as a separate post 🙂
Hi Jini,
I do not have any real evidence regarding marijuana and cortisol, but I just feel like I got revved up sometimes after using it..not always, but perhaps it’s just certain strains or types made me feel this way. I also feel that as I’ve gotten older, it’s effect is different for me-not as relaxing as it used to be. Again, it’s probably due to the specific type I used at times.
A couple of other things in my protocol I failed to mention is that I have fresh vegetable juice I make every morning-a small amount-about 4-5 oz. It’s usually carrot, celery and cucumber. After that, an hour or so later I have a smoothie of just water, banana and some berries. That’s my breakfast.
For vegetables, I find sweet potatoes are very good for me. Zucchini and yellow summer squash are a favorite. Usually I just steam them or roast in the oven w/a little avocado oil, salt and pepper. Butternut squash is another fave, cubed and roasted.
Steamed spinach, green beans and riced cauliflower are standards as well.
I was advised to go easy on raw vegetables at first, but now do an occasional red leaf lettuce or baby spinach salad(small and must chew very well) with chopped tomato, cucumber and sunflower sprouts. No mushrooms or legumes(as advised by Drs).
I have brown rice, millet, quinoa and baked or boiled potatoes for my starch on occasion.
At the clinic, the Drs really emphasize eating slowly and chewing until your food is “liquified”. This is something I had to be aware of and slow down. I feel that this has helped my digestion tremendously.
Jenny
Thank you Jennifer! That really gives us a good idea of your protocol. Another thing you might want to try is a broth-based soup with celery, carrots, zucchini, green beans, potato (or parsnip if ok), fresh tomato, diced up small and simmered together with whatever herbs you wish. This also freezes well in glass jars – so you can make a big pot and then have easy meals afterwards. My whole family LOVES that (we also add organic turkey sausage).
And yes, the eating until liquid mush is crucial – let those salivary enzymes do their work! I’d love to share your regime in a blog post – is that alright with you? I think it would help a lot of people. xo
Jini,
Thank you for the soup suggestion. Sounds really good! I love soups!
I will definitely make it.
Absolutely fine if you would like to share any of my regime with your readers.
You’ve been such a help and inspiration to me. Anything I can do to help you, just ask! Keep up the amazing work you do! ❤️
Thank you SO much Jennifer! I will let you know once the blog post is ready, and of course will keep you anonymous. Appreciate you sharing your story, and I know the rest of our readers will too. =)
