Frequently Asked Questions Regarding an Elemental Diet and Gut Health
Q: What are elemental diets good for and what do they help with?
A: Elemental diets play a crucial role in resetting your gut flora. When individuals embark on an exclusively elemental diet, for a duration ranging from two to six weeks, it serves as a reset button for the microbiota within the gut. This reset extends beyond the gut, impacting the entire body.
Moreover, elemental diets prove particularly beneficial for specific digestive conditions such as SIBO, and inflammatory bowel diseases, like Crohn’s, colitis, diverticulitis, and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
By eliminating conventional foods and opting for an elemental diet, you can address and manage the overgrowth of bacteria in the small intestine.
Note: It’s much better when you’re on an elemental diet, to simultaneously supplement with a therapeutic grade probiotic such as Natren Probiotic.
Q: Can elemental diets address severe bleeding in conditions like Crohn’s or colitis?
A: Yes! elemental diets help to stop intestinal or colonic bleeding, by providing bowel rest.
In the video, I share my personal story to underscore this point. I recount a challenging episode where I used an elemental diet to heal from severe bleeding in my colon. Colonic or small intestine bleeding are associated with conditions like Crohn’s or colitis.
In the video, I describe the severity of the situation… Mentioning blood clots the size of my thumb, a hemoglobin drop to 2/14, and the imminent risk of bleeding out.
What happened to me shows that elemental diets can really help when dealing with serious bleeding linked to digestive diseases.
However, it’s essential to know that what worked for me might be different for others. I suggest you consult and work with a supportive physician. Getting professional advice is crucial to ensure what you’re doing is right for you.
Q: How can elemental diets help with intestinal obstruction?
A: Elemental diets prove to be highly beneficial when it comes to intestinal obstruction. This includes specific health issues like Crohn’s disease, colitis, or diverticulitis, where the accumulation of scar tissue becomes a significant concern.
As I explain in the video, conditions like Crohn’s or colitis involve a cycle of repeated wounding and healing, resulting in the development of scar tissue in the intestine. This scar tissue, over time, can narrow and restrict the passage of food, causing obstruction.
Moreover, diverticulitis – another condition I mention – involves inflammation and the formation of pockets in the intestine. These pockets (diverticulae) can trap food and lead to infection, creating a feedback loop of complications.
Elemental liquid diets offer a practical solution in such circumstances. I share insights from my readers who have faced similar issues; highlighting that switching to an elemental diet for as little as 3 – 7 days can bring significant relief.
This simple approach aids in clearing obstructions and allows individuals to return to easily tolerated foods.
Q: Is there a role for elemental diets in stress management?
A: Certainly, elemental diets are a tool to help manage stress effectively. When facing high-stress situations like a divorce, a move, or coping with loss, stress can impact our digestive system.
In response, elemental diets offer a quick and straightforward solution. These diets provide the necessary support without the extra pressure of focusing on maintaining a healthy diet during stressful times.
In addition, during stressful times, digestive and absorptive capability is reduced. But an elemental shake, like Absorb Plus, is instantly absorbed to your bloodstream (within 20 minutes).
Conclusion
In conclusion, elemental diets offer a versatile solution for various gut-related challenges. This includes a gut flora reset, dealing with bleeding episodes, intestinal obstruction, and stress management.

If someone does a half elemental, half whole food diet can they expect firm or watery stools? Just mushy, in the middle?
It’s different for everyone and also depends on your gut microbiome, if you still have a gut infection that requires flushing of pathogens through the stool, if your probiotics are creating die-off (dead pathogens need to be flushed through stool), and how your body responds to maltodextrin (carb component).
Great, but what is an elemental diet?

With the oregano oil protocol do you have to follow the rule of 10 drops 3 to 5 tumes a day or can you do all the 50 drops in one shot or split up the dosage 2 times a day?
Hi Denise, It depends on your tolerance. Some people are sensitive and responsive to individual dosage taken very gradually. Some people need aggressive supplementation to get results, so test a dose that is doable for you and see how your body responds. And as noted in Jini’s Gut Infection eBook, the key to her Oregano protocol is the combination and timing with Probiotics.
