My latest formulation for Imix, Trace Matrix, contains 70 fulvic ionic trace minerals that are now missing from our soil (thanks to pesticides, herbicides and monocrops). These minerals also used to be present in our water – when our water ran through natural rock and soil, and wasn’t extensively filtered and processed.
Thus Trace Matrix is ideal for re-mineralizing distilled or filtered water (where the minerals have been removed). Or simply add it to your juice, tea, shake or smoothie to get the full-spectrum of trace minerals that we can no longer get from eating plants or drinking natural water. Before we got our own well, we used to keep a glass dispenser of filtered water on the counter and I would add trace minerals to that, for the kids to drink throughout the day.
Here’s the quick overview of why Trace Matrix is so great for our health, and then I’ll get into each of these in more detail:
- 70 fulvic ionic trace minerals missing from our soil/plants
- chelates heavy metals and toxins to remove them from our cells
- increases mitochondria energy levels
- improves the gut lining
- supports the immune system
- protects against cognitive impairment
- transports nutrients into the cell & aids cellular detox
- atom-sized for instant absorption (no digestion required)
Gentle on the bowel: Like all the minerals in the QuikPlus line, these are also atom-sized minerals that do not require digestion, so they are in the most ideal size and form for absorption. They are absorbed through the mucosal tissue, so they can be absorbed simply by holding in your mouth. Feel free to add Trace Matrix to any liquid; tea, water, juice, shake or smoothie.
There are a lot of health claims being made around these fulvic/humic minerals – some claim they can completely re-build your gut microbiome, others claim they support the integrity of tight junctions in the gut lining, even in the face of damage from toxins such as glyphosate. And others claim these trace minerals increase the speed and efficiency of biochemical reactions in the body. While all these effects are certainly possible, and maybe probable, we don’t have a lot of proof or clinical trial comparison with a control group to substantiate the claims.
What we DO know, from reliable literature on the function of each mineral, 3000 years of use in Ayurvedic medicine and a few clinical studies, is that trace minerals are beneficial for enzymatic, endocrine, cellular and systemic health.
Research on trace minerals for Alzheimer’s showed that, “Fulvic acid, a humic substance, has several nutraceutical properties with potential activity to protect cognitive impairment.”
Trace minerals also act as a chelator with the ability to attract heavy metals & toxins and remove them from our cells.
Lastly, we know that trace minerals and fulvic help increase mitochondria energy levels and support immune health. They improve the gut lining, support the immune system, and increase mental clarity.
The fulvic trace minerals contained in Trace Matrix are sourced from North American mineraloid veins. These are compressed layers of ancient soil located deep within the soil/rock strata. Fulvic acids that mature over millions of years form a dense complex of organic acids and ionic minerals. These fulvic acids form a matrix that cannot be replicated in a lab.

Modern agriculture has destroyed both our soil quality and microbial life – there should be more living microbes in a handful of soil than all the human/animal species on the planet! Let that sink in. These living networks or communities of beneficial life are destroyed by tilling/plowing, chemical fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides. Leaving us with nutrient-void soil; which produces nutrient-void vegetables.
If you get frustrated by the amount of supplements we need nowadays, just ponder how we have destroyed our planet (and thus our food quality) in the last 100 years.
The ancient soil from which Trace Matrix is extracted is rich in bacterial metabolites (not bacteria), which are the byproducts of bacterial digestion. These metabolites combine with trace minerals (and amino acids) to create fulvates and fulvic acid.
Fulvic acids are created in extremely small amounts by millions of microbes working on decaying plant matter. The most potent and active fulvic acids are found in soil from decomposed, prehistoric plant life. These fulvic ionic minerals are atom-sized and absorb instantly into cell channels.
What’s the difference between fulvic and humic?
Humic acids contain more hydrogen, carbon, nitrogen, and sulfur and less oxygen than fulvic acids. Humic acids also have a much larger particle size (10x) and are only soluble in alkaline solutions.
Fulvic acid is so powerful that a single molecule can transport more than 60 times it’s own weight in minerals and other nutrients into the cells. Thus, fulvic acid makes nutrients more absorbable. It maintains cellular integrity and aids in the cellular detoxification process. Remember that before all the chemicals used in agriculture, the rich humus soil was full of millions of beneficial microbes that created fulvic. The vegetation was lush and abundant, which is evident in ancient remains that geologists call humic deposits.
Many farmers now give humic and fulvic acids to their crops – we have so stripped and depleted our soil that even plants need supplementation now! I also put Trace Matrix into my dog and cat’s water. For myself, I’ll usually add it to my water, or vitamin C drink. Sometimes I’ll add it to MultiAbsorb (which already contains a few trace minerals).
