Inside Natren Healthy Trinity: How 3 Probiotic Strains Support Your Entire Digestive Tract
When I sat down with Natasha Trenev, founder of Natren Probiotics, I wanted to dig deep into the science behind her flagship product, the Natren Healthy Trinity.
This is not just another bottle in the crowded world of probiotic products.
It’s a unique formulation with decades of proven safety, designed to deliver beneficial bacteria alive and ready to work, all the way through the digestive tract.

A Rare Safety Record in the Supplement Industry
One of the first things Natasha shared: In 44 years, Natren probiotics have never sent anyone to the hospital, urgent care, or even a doctor’s office due to harm from the product. In an era when many supplements have little oversight, that’s no small feat.
This isn’t just about selling probiotic supplements. Natasha has always insisted on the health food industry’s original guiding principle: do no harm. That’s part of why I’ve trusted her work for decades.
Designing for the Digestive System
The digestive tract is not an easy place for probiotic bacteria to survive. Your stomach’s main job is to break down protein and kill bacteria, it’s essentially a hostile environment for any strains of bacteria you ingest.
Natasha explained that she chose oil as the base for Healthy Trinity because oil is not broken down in the stomach. By suspending the live microorganisms in oil and sealing them in a gelatin capsule, they bypass the stomach’s harsh gastric acid unharmed.
Gelatin, unlike many “vegetarian” capsules, is a natural protein that breaks down predictably.
Many vegetarian capsules are made from chemically modified compounds Natasha pointed out some have chemical names 25 letters long, making them hard to understand.
Her choice was intentional: gelatin is gentle, effective, and works with the body.
Surviving the Stomach
Here’s a fact most people overlook when comparing probiotic products: survival rate through the stomach is everything.
Natasha’s data shows Healthy Trinity bacteria surviving over an hour at pH 1.8, a level of acidity specifically designed to destroy microbes.
If probiotic strains can’t survive this stage, the best colony-forming unit number on a label won’t matter.
As Natasha put it, dead bacteria don’t help you. This is the difference between hope and real digestive support.
Three Strains, Three Homes in the GI Tract
Healthy Trinity contains only three bacterial strains, but each was chosen for a specific role in the gastrointestinal tract:
- Lactobacillus acidophilus – Thrives in both oxygen-rich and oxygen-poor environments, primarily the small intestine. It has been studied in over 10,000 scientific papers and remains one of the most researched probiotic species for digestive health and immune function.
- Bifidobacterium bifidum – Natasha was the first to introduce this strain to the U.S. back in 1986, long before it became popular. It prefers the large intestine (colon), which has little to no oxygen. Research from Japanese and German scientists calls it one of the most important bacteria for human health.
- Lactobacillus bulgaricus – Known as the “longevity bacteria,” it was first studied by Dr. Ilia Metchnikoff, who associated it with the long-lived Bulgarians. It stimulates killer cell and T-cell activity, supporting your immune function, and helps the body eliminate toxins—important for healthy skin, strong energy levels, and slowing premature aging.
Why Not Add More Strains?
It’s tempting to think more is better, but Natasha cautions against it. Some probiotic species can compete or cancel each other out if they’re not compatible. Healthy Trinity’s three strains were selected for their ability to work together harmoniously.
In fact, one gastroenterologist reported that patients taking Healthy Trinity showed increases in Akkermansia and other beneficial bacteria—meaning these three strains can stimulate the growth of other friendly microbes in the gut microbiome naturally.
More Than Just a Short-Term Fix
Many people approach probiotics like medication—they take them until symptoms go away and then stop. But traditional diets included cultured foods every day.
For those recovering from serious digestive issues like Crohn’s or colitis, I recommend staying on Healthy Trinity for at least a year after symptoms disappear.
If you aren’t regularly eating high-quality fermented foods, taking effective probiotics daily can be one of the best ways to maintain a healthy gut in our toxic modern world.
Empty Stomach or With Food?
People often ask the best time to take probiotics. While we didn’t focus on this in our conversation, the Healthy Trinity delivery system was designed to protect bacteria whether you take it on an empty stomach or with a meal.
The oil base and bile-tolerant strains handle either situation.
Behind the Manufacturing Process
Natasha oversees every step of the manufacturing process from sourcing raw ingredients to ensuring cold-chain storage in glass bottles. This protects the potency of the live microorganisms right up until the expiration date.
No shortcuts, no compromises.
Addressing Individual Needs
Every gut is unique. Your individual needs depend on your diet, stress level, age, and health history.
Healthy Trinity’s design, three powerful strains, precise adequate amounts, and a proven protective system—was built to give the most benefit across a wide range of specific health concerns.
The Role of Immune Function and Overall Health
Your gut is home to 70% of your immune system.
Supporting it with good bacteria can improve your resilience to infections, reduce bacterial overgrowth, and help manage inflammation. Natasha emphasized that probiotics should be about supporting gut health and overall health, not chasing quick fixes.
What Science and Tradition Agree On
Science confirms what traditional diets have shown for centuries: regular intake of lactic acid bacteria supports digestion, nutrient absorption, and a balanced gut microbiome.
Healthy Trinity blends scientific research with practical, everyday use—something that’s rare in the supplement world.
