One of our readers recently wrote in regarding their experience using BPC-157:
“I took it for 3 months and thought it was useless. A few weeks afterward, I realized it really was that game-changer. In addition to the cessation of pain and spasms, my hair started coming back (autoimmune loss of hair). I was shocked. The prices have come down significantly. Competition is on. All the labs have specials and sales. The difference between what the Rx was and what’s on the market as a supplement, is that one has to take two capsules instead of one. Simple.” – M.M.
Peptides are so popular right now! But what do they do, and are they really helpful to IBD patients?
What are Peptides?
Well, peptides are amino acids – basically the building blocks of certain proteins needed in the body. In the gut, peptides are described as:
“…chemical messengers that regulate gastrointestinal (GI) functions such as secretion, motility, absorption, digestion, and cell proliferation. These polypeptides are produced by endocrine cells in the stomach, pancreas, or intestine and act locally through autocrine or paracrine mechanisms, or at distant sites in a classical endocrine manner. The gut peptides are also produced in the central and peripheral nervous systems, where they function as neurotransmitters.”
What Is BPC-157?
According to the Thompson clinic, BPC-157 is a synthesized peptide made up of a partial sequence of Body Protection Compound protein (the “BPC” in “BPC-157”) found in gastric juice within your very own stomach. BPC-157 is believed to protect cells and interact and alter other proteins and their pathways, most notably to encourage tissue reconstruction and repair.
BPC-157 = Body Protection Compound 157.
I recommend watching this awesome video from Drew Timmermans, ND, as it offers another great explanation of BPC-157. It is sold in liquid form, to be injected subcutaneously under the skin, or as a powder in capsule form.
In some countries, BPC-157 is not an approved supplement. You can still obtain it, but it is sold with a warning and the bottle will say: For Research Use Only
What can it do for me?
This compound is naturally produced in gastric juices, so animal studies show that when taken as a synthetic supplement it can assist with gut healing. This peptide is said to help heal the gut lining, nerves, joints, cartilage, etc. It’s very beneficial for ligament and gut healing.
Another benefit is that for those who heal really slowly, peptides can really assist in speeding up that process. It’s been referred to as “wolverine type healing.”
BPC-157 is believed to help repair tissue and protect it from further damage. At the Thompson Clinic they use it frequently and state the following:
“BPC 157 is used frequently to speed up the healing process from stubborn orthopedic injuries like partial ligament and rotator cuff tears, and more importantly, help these injuries heal completely. We also use BPC-157 in patients with GERD, IBS, leaky gut, and Crohn’s disease. These inflammatory bowel diseases have limited treatment options, but we see BPC-157 work wonders by repairing lesions of the gut lining, reducing inflammation, and preventing ulcers.
Recently we have discovered the application of BPC-157 in patients suffering from Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). BPC-157 has shown to help repair brain tissue and promote healing in the brain after TBI. From TBI and PTSD to liver damage from alcohol, BPC-157 heals and protects your organs that need it the most and helps you live a healthy life.”
Why is BPC-157 Peptide not FDA approved?
Since BPC 157 is NATURALLY produced within the body in gastric juices, it cannot be patented! Again it can’t be patented because it’s naturally occurring in the body. If something cannot be patented, it, therefore, lacks funding and research to approve it for FDA use. I have never had any side effects when I was taking BPC, and I have heard of others and their success stories while using it.
But it is always a good idea to do your own research on BPC 157 before taking this product! And also consult your healthcare professional on this.
My Personal Experience With BPC-157
I took BPC-157 for about 8 weeks a year and a half ago in capsule form – not liquid. I took it once a day on empty stomach, so usually, the morning worked best for me. I want to note that when I began taking it, I was already 75% healed of my Ulcerative Colitis, so for my gut, I personally didn’t notice immediate results.
I also tried it for my sinuses! I opened the capsules and added them to my nose sprays and nasal irrigation for my severe allergies and sinusitis. This is where I noticed almost immediate results!
Of course, always consult with your doctor or health care professional before getting creative with using these other methods of BCP 157. I just wanted to share my journey with you so you can see how versatile this product can be! For example, it can be used orally, injected, taken nasally (for issues like myself and all my allergies), and/or used in enemas.
Using this orally or as an enema I think is brilliant! If I was still looking for solutions to my IBD, I would definitely give this a try – I would follow Jini’s enema directions and get all the supplies needed for it here. Jini’s whole healing enema kit comes with full instructions on how to a retention enema at home, so if it were me, I would open the BPC capsule and dump it in together with the enema mixture when preparing it, to cover and treat all your bases.
I have personally heard of others who struggle with IBD or IBS who have taken BPC-157, and it was their game changer! I LOVE how BCP-157 is targeted to heal lesions or ulcers, and for IBD patients who experience bleeding and strictures, it makes absolute sense that BPC-157 could be helpful with their healing.
Since the healing of my gut was already in place I believe it did help my gut heal quicker, but I really noticed instant results when I used it for my chronic sinusitis when I used it in my neti-pot. What I decided to do was add a capsule to my neti pot each day – that way I got it in all my sinus cavities. I also had a bottle of Ion biome nose spray, so I dropped the powdered BPC-157 capsule into the nasal spray and used it that way. Let me tell you, I went from not breathing in my nose, to both nostrils open in minutes!
Anyway, I hope this information has been helpful to you. Have any of you used BPC-157 yourselves? Was it a game-changer for you, or not so much? Tell me in the comments!
In Canada we are getting 5 MG liquid bottle ( ofcourse label says not for Humans use only for research use ) , can we use liquid for Enema and orally? How much is the safe quantity orally or with Enema ? How long you think it could provide some results for mild UC symptoms ?
Hi Krtz – thanks for reaching out! Linsy mentions in the post that she took BPC-157 for about 8 weeks a year and a half ago in capsule form – not liquid. She took it once a day on empty stomach, so usually, the morning worked best for her.
Unfortunately we don’t have any experience using it in liquid form, but if you consult your doctor, do your own research, and you decided to use it in liquid form please keep us updated!
And here is a quick excerpt of this post in which Linsy addresses your question regarding use via enema:
More info + links in the post. Best to you. 🙂
Interesting article. Did I miss the link to purchase? don’t see it in the shoppe.
Hi Michelle – we do not carry it in our shoppe! The brand Linsy used is no longer on the market, so unfortunately we can’t advise you on an alternate brand. You will have to do your own research, and please read the label and ingredient list carefully! If you find a brand with good ingredients and decide to use it, I’d love to hear from you. 🙂
Hi Michelle – Linsy was actually able to find the brand she used! 🙂 I’ve updated the blog post, but here is the link: https://amzn.to/2PIlJk8
Thank you so much! I will check it out.
You’re very welcome! 🙂
Is the injectable form of BPC-157 as effective (or possibly more effective) than the ORAL form ??
Hello Marc,
What a wonderful question! BPC-157 is really great stuff! I have personally never tried injections, but I have tried it orally – even nasally! For me, they both were really helpful.
I have heard of others using it via injection for injuries and found it useful. I would consult a professional if you want to try injections and see what would be most effective for you personally! 🙂
– Linsy
Has anyone used it while on Biologics?
Hi Lindsay,
I have crohns and my integrative doctors here wanted me to try BPC-157 I tried orally and felt great the first few days and then started having diarrhea. The oral one they gave me was biote and it was mized with magnesium sterate and anything with magensium gets me upset pretty quick. They are wanting me to try the oral spray now from integrative peptides. May I ask what brand you used of BPC-157?
Hello! The brand that Linsy previously used is no longer available and it looks like the FDA is making restrictions on BPC-157. All the best!
