If you (like me) have been working on straightening your scoliosis, then you just might be as fascinated as I am by this research from 2005 where they gave rats a filling (occlusion) and it resulted in scoliosis!
If that isn’t crazy enough, when they removed the filling, the spine straightened!
Another rat study from 2015 (poor rats!) left 5 rats alone, pulled the molars on 10 rats and increased the bite on 10 others. Repeated analysis showed an increase in both the cervical (back of the neck) and thoracic (chest/rib cage area) spine curvature.
I recently purchased the textbook for the Schroth Method of healing scoliosis (fantastic book!) and while flipping through it I noticed a number of case studies where the person’s spine was pretty much straight, but then they stopped doing their exercises and in a very short period of time (2-3 years) their spine reverted back to full-blown scoliosis.
This really started me asking deeper questions about WHY we develop scoliosis? Because even if you straighten your spine, look how strong the pull is for the scoliotic pattern to re-assert itself! So where is the rotation and/or curvature originating from? WHY does the body want to, or feel it’s best to twist in that way?
When I look at my own body and my past (diagnosed with S-curve at 12 years old) I find myself wondering which emotional traumas, which behaviour patterns, which beliefs about life, love, connection, etc. contributed to my spine bending and rotating?
I’ve also watched my own son’s spine go from perfectly straight to developing a slight curve in the upper back – in spite of regular bodywork and chiropractic. BUT he had begun playing a lot of video games, and increased his time on his hand-held devices. So our chiropractor worked with him on how he needed to sit to align himself properly when sitting, watching TV, playing video games etc. And within 4 weeks (he’s diligent and disciplined) his spine was straight again.
I’d love to hear your thoughts, ideas or experiences with scoliosis… any patterns or behaviours you’ve noticed contributing to your condition? And have you worked at all with emotional trauma or spiritual aspects that might cause or hold your spine in a twisted position? Please share in the Comments section below…
I have had scoliosis since as far back as I can remember. I was born in Germany at the beginning of WWII, and I remember when I was very young, maybe 4 or 5 years old, my parents used to put a board, or maybe it was a straight stick, down the back of my shirt to keep the back straight while sitting at the dinner table. We also had rings attached to the top of the door frame so I could try to pull myself up. I am now 79 tears old, get plenty of exercise, which is no doubt why my scoliosis has not gotten worse than it is.
Yes, I think that as much exercise and movement as you can is KEY. And continually being aware of your posture and breath and aligning/expanding continuously throughout the day. I think the rings on the door frame are genius – more than a few therapists have gotten me to do that too 🙂
Like you, I was diagnosed with scoliosis at age 12 or 13. I think what contributed to it was: hormones (I grew about a foot in 3 years; and I think I had hashimoto’s or budding autoimmune disease even then); diet (we ate twinkies ad such); physical trauma (I had some major accidents/broken bones and rough n tumble brothers); emotional trauma (I hated being that tall that young; at school, I was awkward and made fun of for being smart; my family life was painful.) Hormones and physical trauma top the list, I think.
One more thing…. I didn’t have any fillings until I was 24. But we did have loads o flouride in the water.
That’s a great list Anne and a good example of looking at an imbalance wholistically; what are ALL the contributing factors? Interesting to know too that you didn’t have any fillings. Thanks!
I would be very interested in fully formulated (as in already made) stricture healing formula.
Also, I want to buy suppositories to heal fissures, but you don’t have it in stock.
Thanks for your time
Hi Cliff,
Sorry but we only carry the ingredients to make Jini’s StrictureHeal formula. As for the Fissureheal, we’re hoping to have this back by Wednesday next week. We will update the website as soon as it becomes available.
Thanks for your patience.

mild scoliosis at 13 probably due to being born with club foot syndrome and uneven legs. have done chiropractic all my life since age 13. did not have major teeth work until years later due to bulemia which I fortunately was able to stop at age 41 thanks to psychological conseling and my own meditation. the scoliosis never became severe and I have also been involved in dance as part of my life since age 4 on a part time basis so I do not feel that scoliosis had any relation to my teeth whatsoever.
Thanks for sharing this with us, Mary!
Kind Regards,

I have always wondered about scoliosis because I am an identical twin. I don’t have scoliosis but my twins s curve is very noticeable. We are 60 now but I remember it was diagnosed around 12. Almost everything growing up was the same, what we ate, our dental history…we both had family trauma but others in our family would probably say she is more sensitive than me. I wondered if maybe it had something to do with how we layed in the womb.
Yes so has i ally this is what causes and cures scoliosis… how do I know? Cause i had scolisois for 26 years and now I’m basically cured… using the same technique as the rats ..
If anyone wants to fix their back hit me up.. i also have photos to provide it
